4 Jeopardy Inter-generational Game Night Saturday January PM Here in Sewall Hall We will play a round of Jeopardy, eat dinner & play a 2nd round of Jeopardy with our host Deb Glancy! JAZZ AND CHOCOLATE FEBRUARY 16TH 7-9PM SEWALL HALL Indulge in a sumptuous buffet of decadent homemade chocolate desserts while enjoying the sultry sounds of jazz vocalist Lydia Harrell, accompanied by the

5 accomplished and animated pianist Steven Higgs. Harrell recently won first prize at the Second Annual Duke Ellington Jazz Vocal Competition in Manhattan, and was a fifth place finalist in the 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. She was selected from over 200 vocalists by Sony Music Latin to provide lead vocals for the 2013 Bob Marley tribute album, Is This Love. She is a frequent performer at many Boston area restaurants and jazz clubs, including the Custom House, Scullers, Ryles, the House of Blues, and the Acton Jazz Café. Tickets for an Evening of Jazz and Chocolate can be reserved by calling The cost is $15 per person. To learn more about Lydia Harrell and hear some of her jazz renditions, visit GIFT CARD ORDERING The newest store available on the gift card list is Total Wine and More. They are right here on Cambridge St in Burlington in the Target/ Panera/Michaels shopping center. They have an enormous selection of reasonably priced beer, wine and liquor and the rebate on their gift cards is 7%. Think of what you spend on alcohol in a year how nice if, at no cost to you, 7% of your total went to the church! Our next group order for gift cards will be on March 17 th, with delivery by March 24 th.

6 ACTIVE THREAT TRAINING Lt. Mills will to come and do a walk-through of our space to tell us how we can make it safer. Those who will be attending please note this will be on February 11t at 12:15pm GREEN TEAM NEWS! It was wonderful to have over 2 dozen people come to the breakfast and talk on Sunday. Many thanks to Andy Wells- Bean for his interesting talk about climate change and the initiatives that are going on at the national, state and local level. There will be a poster about an electricity challenge for saving energy on display near the Green Team bulletin aboard. Please take a look at it. Also of note is a Hazardous Waste and recycling workshop at the Senior Center. Below is the full announcement found in the senior newsletter this month. Hazardous Waste Workshop Tuesday, January 29 th Join us on Tuesday, January 29 th 10-11am to learn about ways to dispose of hazardous waste such as elemental mercury, tricks for saving energy and how to recycle properly. There will be a raffle at the end and we will serve hot coffee and Danish. Brought to you by Covanta Center for Eco-technology.

7 We all know how important coffee hour is following worship We are in need of folks to HOST on Sunday morning. Janine Towle is our coordinator and she would be more than happy to give you guidelines for hosting. This would make it easier to spread out scheduling. Janine at JUST A REMINDER... 8 LTLC - Lowell Shelter is in need of the following items for MEN and WOMEN Used or new, Mens and Womens: Most Critical: Winter Jackets Boots Warm socks Gloves Jeans Sweatshirts with hoods Less critical: All other adult sized clothing There will be a bin outside the church office if you can donate any items. Thank you! CRAFTING FOR A CAUSE C4C-UPDATE! C4C will met this week at 1 in the conference room. We have yarn to sort and many crochet projects have been donated to us. If you have time and energy please come at noon to help sort yarn and maybe fabric in the Skelton Hall kitchen. The kitchen will look more organized when we finish these 2 projects. We have given yarn to Lowell High School to help start a knitting group there.

9 Susan Eby will be away from C4C and our church family for some time this year: "Nelson is on Sabbatical this half year. We are going to travel to Taipei for two months so that he can do research at the Academia Sinica in Taipei. We leave February 18 th and return April 15 th. Later on in the spring we will travel to Capetown, South Africa where he will do research at The University of Capetown. Dates for that trip have not been set yet. The Burlington Food Pantry currently helps 13 families with children under the age of 2. They are in need of diapers (sizes 3, 4, 5) and wipes. 11 TRUE NORTH PASTOR HOURS Angela has resumed her hours at True North Coffee Shop. Once a month, on the first Thursday, her hours will be cancelled because she has a conflicting meeting at that time.
