Notes for Hattie Maylee: Obituary: Unknown Publication, 1934 Tuscumbia was cast into gloom Monday afternoon when the announcement came that Mrs. J. E. Kallenbach had passed away at 2:00 o clock. Her death had been momentarily expected for several hours, since her condition gradually grew worse following a stroke of paralysis she suffered a few days previously. Hattie Maylee Thompson Kallenbach was born on October 18, 1865, near Prague, Czechoslovakia. As an infant she came to America with her parents who, after residing in Chicago and later in Hannibal, Missouri, for short periods, settled in this county. She grew to womanhood in this community and resided here until her death on April 30, In 1881 she was united in marriage to John R. Thompson, of Tuscumbia, who preceded her in death on June 9, To this union were born three children, all now living Mrs. H.M. (Ida) Atwell, of Eldon, Mo.; Frank L. Thompson, of this place; and Chas. C. Thompson, of Portland, Oregon. On October 28, 1894, she was united in marriage to John Edward Kallenbach, of Tuscumbia. The wedding was solemnized by Rev. Edmund Wilkes, at Eldon, and they were the first couple to be married in the Christian Church which is still in use. To this union were born six children, of whom five survive her Leonard E., Dewey E., Joseph E., and Mrs. C.E. (Hattie) Fendorf of this place, and Mrs. Asa (Alma) Mayfield, of Tipton, Oklahoma. A sixth child, Halley, died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, eight children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; and also a half brother, John. A brother, Frank, was taken by death in While still a young woman she became one of the charter members of the Tuscumbia Christian Church. Her work and her home were the constant inspirations I her truly Christian life. In her death the husband loses a faithful companion, the children a kind and devoted mother, and the community a good neighbor and friend.

On June 5, 1918, he was married at Ulman to Ina McCommons, who died May 27, Mr. Kallenbach attended Tuscumbia High School. For a number of years he operated an appliance business in Tuscumbia. He was a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Tuscumbia and was a charter member of the Tuscumbia Lions Club. He was a member of the Tuscumbia Presbyterian Church, Masons, Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. C.E. Fendorf, Jefferson City and Mrs. Asa Mayfield, Eldon; a brother Dr. Joseph Kallenbach, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and 20 nieces and nephews. A son died in infancy. Mayfield, 84, of 222 N. Locust St., Eldon, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1987 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. He was born June 15, 1903 in Iberia to L.J. and Dora M. Myers Mayfield. On June 3, 1931 he was married in Atchison, Kan. to Alma Kallenbach, who survives at the home. Mr. Mayfield was a graduate of Tuscumbia High School. He received his A.B. and B.S. degrees from Park College and his M.A. from the University of Missouri. He also attended the University of Oklahoma at Norman and Stillwater. He taught for two years in Miller County and eight years in Tipton. He also taught in the Oklahoma public schools, including 40 years at El Reno, Okla. where he served as a junior high principal and later as an assistant superintendent of schools. He also taught summer school classes at the Oklahoma City University and El Reno College. Mr. Mayfield held an honorary doctor of arts degree from El Reno College. HE was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, the Oklahoma Education Association. The Eldon Retired Teachers, the Eldon Lions Club and the Eldon First Christian Church. Thompson on Sunday afternoon. Rev. A.L. Alexander officiated at the services with burial in the Tuscumbia Cemetery under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home. Masonic ceremonies were held at the grave. Frank Lawrence Thompson, a well loved resident of Tuscumbia, died suddenly on Wednesday night at Waynesville of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born March 23, 1884, at Tuscumbia, the son of John and Hattie Thompson. At an early age he began working in the blacksmith shop of his stepfather, J.E. Kallenbach, and then engaged in the garage business with him for many years. For three years during World War II he was employed as a guard at the Bagnell Dam, and since the close of the war was employed at the Bell garage in Waynesville. Early in 1911 he was united in marriage with Stella Blackburn, who died a few months later in the same year. On June 24, 1917, he was united in marriage with Icie L. Burns, and to this union was born one daughter, Frances Laurice. He is survived by his wife, Icie, and daughter, Frances (Mrs. LeRoy Snodgrass) his twin brother, Charles C. of Portland, Oregon, and a sister, Mrs. H.M. Atwell, of Eldon. He also leaves three half brothers, L.E. Kallenbach and D.E. Kallenbach, of Tuscumbia, and Joseph E. Kallenbach of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two half sisters, Mrs. C.E. Fendorf of Jefferson City, and Mrs. Asa Mayfield, of El Reno, Oklahoma, and his step-father, J.E. Kallenbach of Tuscumbia. He is survived by one uncle, C.M. Thompson of Portland, Oregon. Some 40 years ago he united with the Christian Church (under the preaching of W.M. Mundell) and continued in that faith until death. He was a member of the Modern Woodman and the Independent Order of Oddfellows, and also a member of the Masonic Order, including the Royal Arch Degree. 8 More About Robert B. Maylee: Notes for Gertrude Olive Martin: The Miller County Sentinel, September 16, 1954 A well known Miller County woman, Mrs. Gertrude O. Maylee, 48, of Eldon, was killed instantly late Friday afternoon when her car overturned three times and hurtled over an embankment a short distance east of the intersection of highways 17 and 54. The State Highway Patrol said Mrs. Maylee, rounding a curve heading toward Eldon on highway 54, veered off on the right shoulder, lost control of the car, swung across the highway and turned over three times before the car went over the 12-foot embankment. Mrs. Maylee, who was traveling alone in the 1954 model car, was thrown from the vehicle, and died of head injuries. She was returning from Wellsville, Mo., where she was employed to teach school. For many years Mrs. Maylee taught in the rural schools of Miller County. Prior to moving to Eldon, she and her husband, R.B. (Bob) and their two children resided in Tuscumbia where Mr. Maylee was Circuit of Miller County for two terms. For the past several years Mr. Maylee has been employed by Clark Bros. of Eldon as a car and farm implement salesman. She was a graduate of Central Missouri State College at Warrensburg. Her daughter, Mrs. John Vernon, teaches school at Richland. Robert, a son, was recently discharged from the Navy and plans to enter the University of Missouri. Also surviving are her father, Theodore Martin of Ulman and a brother, Frank Martin of Tuscumbia.
