1 Saturday, June 14, VOLUNTEER WORKMAN IS KILLED Man Working on Pacific Highway Loses Life when Giant Caps Explode Henry Thompson, Leaves Wife and S even Small Children to Mourn His Loss. When working as a volunteer on the Pacific Highway near Lewisville, Henry Thompson, aged 36, a farmer in that region, wa killed yesterday by the explosion, it is thought, of giant caps which he was carrying in his hands. His little daughter hearing the explosion ran out to see what was the matter and when she discovered her father lying at the side of the road, his face and arms badly cut, his left hand and the fingers of his right hand blown off and his clothes torn in shreds, she attempted to lift him up and carry him home. He was already dead, having been killed instantly by the shock. Mr. Thompson is survived by a widow and seven small children, also by eight brothers. Mr. Thompson had volunteered to work a few days on the road which runs close to his farm and it was while doing this public service that he lost his life. The funeral services will be held at his residence Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Whipple will officiate. Interment will be made in the Lewisville cemetery.
2 Tuesday, October 15, 1929 PIERCE F. THOMPS ON 1929 Pierce Franklin Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Thompson of Battle Ground, was buried this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from Knapp's Funeral Service. The Rev. Mr. J. I. Garrett officiated at the funeral services which were held at the grave in Lewisville cemetery, near Battle Ground. Young Thompson was accidently killed Sunday when a truck in which he was riding rolled down an embankment a few miles beyond Stevenson, near Beacon Rock. He had been employed for a month as a logger for the Clear Creek Lumber Company.
3 1940 Jan 8, 1940 MRS. ANNIE THOMPSON In failing health for a week and seriously ill the past three days, M rs. Annie Thompson, 63, died Sunday at her home at Battle Ground rt. 1. She had been a Clark county resident for 33 years and previously had lived in Klickitat county. She was born in Missouri. She is survived by her husband, Harrison Thompson; two sons, Leslie Thompson and Dell Thompson of Battle Ground; two daughters, Mrs. Dora Hurd and M rs. Cora M eyers, of Battle Ground; two brothers, Fred Warren of Stevenson and Dell Warren of Medical lake; two sisters, Emma Thompson, Vancouver, and Mrs. Tishia Nehls, Wisconsin; and five grandchildren. Pending funeral arrangements the body is at Knapp's Funeral chapel. February 25, 1940 HARRIS ON THOMPS ON Harrison Thompson, 73, died suddenly at his home at Lewisville last evening where he had lived for the past 33 years. He was born in Missouri October 23, 1866 and had lived in Klickitat county before coming to Clark county. He is survived by two sons, Leslie Thompson and Dell Thompson at home; two daughters, Mrs. Dora Hurd and Mrs. Cora M eyers, Battle Ground; seven brothers, Franklin Thompson, White Swan, Sig Thompson, Granger, Edward Thompson, Goldendale, Sam Thompson, Yakima, Nate Thompson, Wapato, and Arthur Thompson, Vancouver; two sisters, Mrs. Angeline Lusby, Yakima, and Mrs. Permelia Mattson, Centerville, Wash. Weather permitting, funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lewisville cemetery, otherwise at Knapp's Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. C. C. James officiating. Interment will be in Lewisville cemetery.

5 July SAM THOMPSON Funeral services for Sam Thompson, 66, of Battle Ground, who died Saturday at his home, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at Limber's Funeral home. Thompson was born at Centerville, Wash., and came to Clark county in 1906, where he has resided since. He was a member of the Battle Ground Odd Fellows lodge for 30 years and a member of the F.O.E. No at Stevenson. He is survived by his wife, Lillie; a daughter, Annie Meyers of Seaside, Ore.; one granddaughter, Joanne of Seaside; and three brothers, Arthur, Manor; Ed, Goldendale, and A. L. of Yakima. Rev. C. C. James will officiate at the funeral services with members of the local I.O.O.F. lodge conducting interment rites at the Lewisville cemetery

Mr. Hurd had lived at Carson for the past 25 years. He was born June 29, 1881, at St. Croix, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Irene Hurd of Carson, a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Stevenson of Stevenson, Wash., three brothers, Cecil Hurd, Pepperwood, Calif., Earl Hurd, Altoona, Calif., Coleman Hurd, Battle Ground, and two sisters, Mrs. Lelia Prestholt and Mrs. Alva Hardy, both of Colville, Wash. There are three grandchildren. The body is at the Vancouver funeral chapel where services are scheduled for 1 o clock Wednesday afternoon. Interment will be at the Lewisville cemetery, near Battle Ground.
7 February, LILLY MAY THOMPS ON Lilly M ay Thompson, age 74, Feb. 21, 1960 at Vancouver, Wash. Born Aug. 15, 1885 in North Dakota. Lived at Rt. 1, Box 90, La Center, Wash., past 54 years. Daughter, Mrs. W. M. (Annie) Meyers, Battle Ground. Brother, Harry Moore, Battle Ground. One grandchild and 3 great-grandchildren. She came to Clark County while it was still a territory in 1888, in 1900 she moved to Goldendale and in 1906 returned to the Lewisville District where she had resided since. She was a member of the Charter Oak Grange; State and Pomona Granges, and the Beryl Rebekah Lodge of Battle Ground, Wash. Funeral services Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1960 at the Community Church, Battle Ground, with Rev. George Schubert officiating. Vault interment will be in the Lewisville Cemetery. Layne's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Mr. :Tustin was born February 23, 1908, in Pennsylvania and had lived at 318 East D Street, Battle Ground, for the past year. He was formerly of Barberten, Ohio, and was a retired inventory controller. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He is survived by hsi widow, Violet, at home; sons, Ed Tustin of Amboy and Richard Tustin, Mesquite, Texas; also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. ^^^^^^^^^^^
11 Wednesday, Oct, 21, DORA HURD Dora Belle Hurd, who lived here all of her life, died Monday in Vancouver. She was 79. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lewisville Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Fenning officiating. Born May 31, 1902 in Goldendale, Mrs. Hurd last resided at 2711 NE 117th Ave. She is survived by a son, Antone of Battle Ground; a daughter, Velda DeLashmutt of Portland; two brothers, Dell Thompson of Battle Ground and Leslie Thompson of Amboy; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Layne's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
12 Fri. Feb 10, LES LIE THOMPS ON Leslie Thompson, a retired logger and bulldozer operator for International Paper Co., died of cancer Thursday in Vancouver. He was 69. Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Battle Ground. A Yacolt resident for 42 years, he last lived at Lewisville Highway. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground. Burial will be in Lewisville Cemetery. Mr. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Carol Sexton of Yacolt; a brother, Dell Thompson of Battle Ground; and three grandchildren. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Crops and the International Woodworkers of America and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
13 March 23, DELL C. THOMPS ON Dell Cecil Thompson, a retired school bus driver for the Battle Ground School District, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in Battle Ground. He was 80. An Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Thompson worked for Weyerhauser Corp. on the Yale Dam. He drove school bus for 25 years. Born Feb. 13, 1919 in Battle Ground, Mr. Thompson lived in Clark County all of his life. He enjoyed yard work, raising flowers and fishing. Survivors include two nieces, Velda DeLashmutt of Battle Ground and Carol Mitzel of Yacolt; and a nephew, Tony Hurd of Battle Ground. A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lewisville Cemetery in Battle Ground. Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground is in charge of arrangements.
14 2001 Apr 10, 2001 ANTONE H. HURD A Clark County resident for 75 years, Antone "Tony" Harrison Hurd, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Vancouver. He was 75. Mr. Hurd was a truck driver. His wife Helen Hurd, died in Mr. Hurd was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Battle Ground. Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Delong of Vancouver and Cherrie Baldwin of Amboy; four sons, Gary Endres of Havarre, Fla., Ronald Endres of Yacolt, Joseph Hurd of Aloha, Ore., and Terry Hurd of Vancouver; one sister, Velda Delatchmutt of Portland; 22 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren. Mr. Hurd was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Battle Ground, the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He liked fishing and being in the mountains, and was a volunteer for Friends in Service to Humanity. `A memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground is in charge of arrangements.
