Psalm 9:1 With a grateful heart I write to you one last time. Sure, there is a sadness in the loss of relationships nurtured over these past three and a half years there can be no denying that. But it would be wrong to dwell on those feelings, for I would fail to give God thanks for all the blessings he has sent our way in our time together. With a grateful heart I thank God for the joy to lead worship with you every Sunday, to enjoy the music, the fellowship and to challenge you with God s Word. It has been so meaningful to share communion with you, baptize the children and youth, celebrate the joy of marriage in weddings, and celebrate the lives of so many faithful saints during the funerals. Worship has been such a central part of our lives together. With a grateful heart I thank God for all the faithful staff and leadership team that work so hard to make sure that every service and ministry is done with excellence and all to the glory and honor of God. While every staff member has been a true blessing, I thank Wilma for her ministry and servants heart and her willingness to try new things with me. I also thank Karl for his expanded role in music ministry. His love of God and his passion for music results in fine music every Sunday from the Praise Team to the Bell Choir and the Sanctuary Choir. I also want to thank two key leaders, Jim and Al. They have been so faithful and I thank them for their service, wisdom and friendship. They have been the leaders of leaders here at Pine Street. With a grateful heart I thank God for the generous and faithful people of Pine Street. Your generosity was exceptional in our Honoring Our Legacy Serving the Future Capital Campaign and I can only say thank you so very much. Your generosity is seen in the support of Social Service, Family Promise and a host of over 50 ministries that make a difference in the lives of our members and community. Your generosity of your talents, time and tithes results in Pine Street making a positive impact in Williamsport. With a grateful heart I thank God for Pastor James, Michelle, Karis and Isaac Wooster. God is calling this young pastor and family to Pine Street to carry on the 192 year legacy. I thank God for the leadership, vision and vitality that he will invest in this church and community. With a grateful heart and God s help, I thank God for the brighter future that lies ahead for Pine Street. So, with a grateful heart and a love for each of you, know that Dee and I will carry you in our hearts and prayers. We ask God s blessing to be with you and thank you for the love you have shown us and the memories we ve made together. And that s what we want to model as the people of The United Methodist Church. To continue the ministry of Jesus we established Human Relations Day as a Special Sunday that calls all of our churches to participate in helping all God s children to realize their potential. 3 CHRISTMAS GIFT GIVING 23 adults, youth and children will have a merrier Christmas due to the generosity of our church family. We provided gifts for seven Family Promise families. Thank You! Barb Flock JANUARY ECUMENICAL LUNCH Plan to join us Wednesdays this fall for a delicious lunch, warm ecumenical fellowship and an enriching program! These luncheons are every week of the school year at Pine Street United Methodist Church, 441 Pine Street, Williamsport. The lunch line opens about 11:45 a.m. and you are assured of a tasty $6 lunch. Parking will be free during that day from 11-1:30 in the lot north of the church. To help with planning please RSVP at or director@uclc.org if you are not a regular attender. CHANGE IN PINE NEEDLE MAILING Beginning in January, the monthly Pine Needle will be sent electronically to members instead of being mailed. This will result in over $3500 in savings for our church! Let the office know your address if you have not yet provided it. We will print some paper copies to be placed in the lobby for those who do not receive the newsletter electronically. It will also be placed on our website. We will continue mailing to our shut-ins. FEBRUARY PINE NEEDLE Please have any material for the February Pine Needle in the church office no later than Thursday, January 17th. Any early articles are appreciated and helpful. Articles not received by January 17 th may not be included in the February Pine Needle. The Williamsport Music Club will present Handel s Messiah Sing-a-Long on January 6, 2019 at 3:00PM right here at Pine Street Church. Prices are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Page 3

4 During the month of February we are asking everyone to please wear a name tag on Sunday. This will help Pastor James and his family learn your name. If you need a name tag made, please contact the church office. Thank you. UNITED METHODIST WOMEN The Pine Street United Methodist will meet on Wednesday, January 16th at 1:30 pm. Suzanne Heilman is program chairman and Lynne Koskie and Pat Wittig are hostesses. Pat Wittig In September 2018, Pine Street hosted their first Financial Peace University (FPU). FPU is a nine week course that covers how to handle finances God's way including budgeting, debt reduction, saving, giving, and financial risk management. Seven families attended the class and within nine weeks they paid off approximately $16,000 in debt, saved $24,000 and closed 16 credit card accounts collectively. Congratulations to those seven families! If you missed the first round of classes, Pine Street will be hosting Financial Peace University again in the spring of Keep an eye out for the starting date. If you are interested in attending the next set of classes please let Nevan know by ing him at nevanelder@gmail.com. Help us to take care of and be good stewards of what God had given us. Please turn off lights when you leave, please flush toilets and throw all trash in the trash can. Not only will this make us look better but it will be an example to those who visit us on Sunday morning. Thank you. FRIDAY NIGHTERS PSUMC's Friday Nighters' event will be held on Friday, January 18 th. The program to be announced. As usual, a potluck luck dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. with the program to follow. Sign up in the courtyard hallway or on the connect card. Cost is $5.00 per person. 7 PINE STREET YOUTH GROUP Thank you all so much for supporting the silent auction and wreath sale by the Youth Group. With your support we raised over $800. On December 16 th the Youth Group helped serve 150+ at the Christmas Dinner, hosted a silent auction, and enjoyed a Christmas Party at Fly World (see picture below.) The Youth Group will continue to meet on Sundays from 6:30-8:00 pm. Keep an eye on the church website and outside the church office for a new 2019 Youth Group Calendar. In Calendar the first quarter of 2019 we plan on having another lock-in, hosting a family game night, attending Winter Jam, and helping with the Souper Bowl of Caring.
