Oct 25 th Work Bee Nov 6-9 Dinner Theater Dec 14 th Kids Christmas Party Dec 20 Adult Christmas Party Feb 15 th Major Degree at 3224 Grand Knight s Report By Brad Hartel October 2008 Fall has arrived and the smell of pumpkin pies is here again. I want to thank all individuals who have been busy scheduling workers, buying spices, mixing the ingredients, picking up sugar and refrigeration units and all the other necessary activities to make this event possible. The September Family Nite was a success, there was plenty of food and good company to go around. Thanks to all who supported this event. The next Family Nite will be scheduled some time during * I have been informed by our Saginaw Diocesan Program Director Bob Graczk the First Annual Diocesan Wide Council Corporate Communion will take place at the 10:00 AM Mass on Sunday, October 12 th, 2008 at St. Mary s Cathedral in Saginaw. The Cathedral is located at 615 Hoyt Street in Downtown Saginaw due north of St. Mary s Hospital. This event has been approved and supported by our Bishop, his Excellency The Most Rev. Robert J. Carlson. See me or call me ( ) if you have any questions. Let s have a strong showing for this event. Regarding the newsletter.father Dennis has given permission to have copies of the newsletter available at Sacred Heart. In the not so distant future, the newsletter will only be available by , the website and hard copies at the K of C Hall and at Sacred Heart. Mailing hardcopies of the newsletter is costing our council ~$2,000 per year. This money can be better spent supporting Sacred Heart and the community. The next couple of months are going to be very busy and I thank all of you in advance for your continued support. Brad Hartel Grand Knight

2 Knight of the Month The Knight of the Month for September was PGK Mark McKervey. Mark is a Bingo Chairman and also has spent many hours on the phone and signing contracts keeping the hall rented Family of the Month The Family of the Month for September was the John Kopko family. John also works Bingo and along with his wife Ruth support many catered events. K of C Seniors The K of C Seniors met Monday, September 15, at noon at the K of C Hall with 25 members present to enjoy the potluck luncheon along with ham and cheesy potatoes. Our prayers for the sick include: Richard Mika, Cindi Roose, Ed and Helen Jagosz, Elaine Grifka, Pat Frick, Fred and Alyce Haase, Loretta Strozeski, Ann Sobek, Joy LaFave, Dick Tetil, Elgin and Stella Clinesmith, Josh Fessler, Bill and Virginia Touchette, and Joe Bauerschmidt. Our next meeting will be October 20 th with a delicious pot of Chili to go along with our usual potluck luncheon. Please remember all K of C members, wives and widows, and senior members of Sacred Heart Church are all welcome to join us. Thank you ladies for volunteering. Our next meeting will be October 16th at 7:00 P.M. at the KC hall. See you all there. Ruth Kopko, Secretary Council History THE QUIET ONE What is a leader? He may be someone who is a natural, to lead people in getting things done, or setting records, or talking in front of crowds. He may have the drive to be successful, or hold important positions in life, but then again he may be quite, he may be humble, he may be just a Knight of Columbus. This Knight was raised on a farm not looking for praise, but just doing the things necessary to make him a special person. He has not been a Grand Knight, but he has worked in many ways with our council. Bingo, building association, catering events, tended bar, played on our softball team, worked pumpkin pies and many more activities. What defines a special Knight is the example he sets in life, as a catholic gentlemen, as a husband, as a father and one who has concern for others. In many ways you may never know he is in the room, but he is. His family was honored for being family of the year in He later in 2006 received the honor of Knight of the year. On April 2, 1977 he married Norma Bodeis and she has been at his side in many of these events. Pete and Norma have two children, Mike and his wife Diana and Julie their daughter, and also two special grandchildren. Peter Sayers joined the Knight of Columbus in 1996 and is an example we can be proud to have in our council. May we be blessed to have many more like him. Thanks Pete keep up the good work. Total donations for the Cancer Society was over $ If you would like to make a donation, make the check payable to the American Cancer Society and mail it to Chuck Kurtansky, 1809 So Bradford Rd., Reese, Mi Our thanks to our Color Corp Commander John Papp Sr for organizing the Color Corp participation in the Mass at St Johns in Peck on Sunday September 7 and for the flag burning ceremony at the Caro Gun Club on September 15. Donations to worthy causes were approved by the membership at the meeting on Wed Sept 17. $ was given to Lake Orion Guest House for All Souls Day Masses and $50.00 to defray the cost of gas for their van. Council 3224 is asking for volunteers to help with the pumpkin pie baking for the Pumpkin Festival. Please call GK Brad Hartel and offer your services.
