1 Women On a Mission Minnesota South District Winter, 2010 LWML Plays in Peoria Fall Joyshops UNSTABLE? This is how many ladies feel when trying to study Revelations. At the Fall Christian Life Joyshops Rev. Allan Reed helped the 147 attendees understand, through the use of 15th Century Art, how to better interpret Rev. 7:14 (NIV)... These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Once again we learned that our everyday life with its discouragements and difficulties points us toward God s Word and His Son, our Savior. Once again we were taught that Christian fellowship is furnished to us by God our Father to help us obtain a better understanding of His Word. Present at this interesting study were many ladies attending a Joyshop for the first time. From their many comments one would assume they look forward to attending more. Knowing this makes the efforts of those involved very worthwhile. Thank you to the ladies of St. Paul s, Fairmont; Peace, Arlington; and Redeemer/Trinity, Rochester for providing good food and interesting skits. We appreciate YOU! The Christian Life Committee Midge Hohenstein, Barb Meyer, and Rev. Allan Reed Peoria, Illinois will be the place to be from June 23-26, 2011, to hear renowned speaker and author Deb Burma, the keynote speaker at the 34 th Biennial LWML Convention under the theme Being with Jesus Living on the Edge. You will be encouraged as Deb challenges you to live on the edge in different ways. While you re at the convention, check out the Servant Events on Thursday. Quilts and other items to bring for Gifts from the Heart can be found when you visit Just select convention on the favorites slider for more details. Dr. Reed Lessing s dynamic Bible study sessions will also be centered on the theme of the convention. Come and hear mission speakers demonstrating how they also live on the edge. And don t worry about missing your regular exercise when you re at convention. You will have a great opportunity on Saturday morning to participate in the Mission Pledge Walk. All convention registration information and materials are in the Winter Quarterly and on the national website. It is a place where you can find an abundance of opportunities to express your Christian care and compassion to others throughout the world. The Human Care Committee will try to keep this Care nucopia filled with ideas for you to use as individuals, societies, and zones and share them with you in the WOM. Likewise, if any of you have ideas to share, please let us know, and we will put them in the Care nucopia. For now, a big thank you goes to any of you who have been helping with the flood recovery efforts in southeast Minnesota. You can find more information about helping at Also, this is a good time of the year to be thinking about the many ways to help people who struggle with Christmas and winter expenses. We encourage you to become aware of the many opportunities in which you can become involved. Listen and look for ideas in your church bulletins and newsletters, on the internet, in the mail, on radio and TV, and in other publications. There are even opportunities to help people in other countries. For the future, it is not too soon to be thinking about Gifts From the Heart for the national convention in Peoria in June You can already obtain information on the LWML website ( Agencies in Peoria and the Orphan Grain Train will be receiving these gifts. You can take a sneak peak on the website, and more information will be available in upcoming WOM s. In the meantime you can be praying for these organizations and for the 2011 Gifts From the Heart. Until our next article, show your compassion to others by pouring out your Care nucopias whenever and wherever God leads you to do so. Patti Thies, Vice President of Human Care
5 PAGE 5 MINNESOTA SOUTH DISTRICT WOMEN ON A MISSION WINTER, 2010 ISSUE PRINTED: DECEMBER, 2010 TRANSITIONS Transitions are a part of life whether seasons, ages, family changes, or as we have all experienced it in MN SO LWML. With God at our side all transitions become easier to cope with. SEASONS: Did you enjoy the beautiful colors this fall? To me, it was as though GOD took the brightest reds, oranges, yellows, and a few other colors, put them into paint pails, and then just poured out those colors. As I traveled to various rallies through out the state, I wished I could have taken pictures of the beauty, but a little difficult to do while driving. AGES: Are you single, married, widowed? At one time or another we all fit into one or many or all of the categories. As we go through the various stages of life which also includes from youth to not so young, with God at our side, those transitions too can be fulfilled. You wonder how did I ever manage, but remember you are never given more than you can do. FAMILY CHANGES: This fits in with the above also. At different stages of our life, we might be alone or with one or more people around us on a regular basis. Again what do you do with your time? I always wonder when someone says I am so bored, I have nothing to do. Personally I could not imagine that, whether at home, at work, in school, doing church work either locally or through the district such as serving in some capacity of LWML. You may say, but I could never do that. A question would be, did you ever try it? You might just surprise yourself in what you could do. MN SO LWML: During the past months as we are becoming accustomed to the new zones, we can discover that we have not lost our old friends, we ve just expanded our boundaries and acquired some new ones. It was so great for me to go to one of the rallies and see a number of persons who used to be in the zone I formerly belonged to. The leadership that I have seen is really great. God is so good. As we rely upon Him all things are possible. Continue to serve the Lord with Gladness. BLESSINGS TO ALL OF YOU: as you get ready to celebrate the holiday season whether here locally or somewhere else, with family, friends, or alone (with your church friends). Thank you all who have been of such great assistance to me as I too have been going through a transition in this office. To God be the Glory. Darleen A. Harens, MN SO LWML District President LWML 2011 PRAYER SERVICE AVAILABLE FREE ONLINE The LWML Prayer Service for 2011 is now available online at The service celebrates the theme of the 34th Biennial LWML Convention in Peoria, Illinois, June 23-26, 2011: Being with Jesus Living on the Edge! The convention Bible verse is Acts 4:13b, 20: And they realized they had been with Jesus. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. The convention goal statement is Empowered by being with Jesus, I courageously speak of Him and live a life transformed by His love. With the convention theme, Bible verse, and goal statement in mind, the prayer service presents seven scenarios where women, motivated by the Gospel of Jesus, have the opportunity to share the Good News with others. Time is given for reflection, prayer, and the identification of life situations where participants might be able to witness God s grace in Jesus Christ. Bible reading and group prayers follow each scenario. The service ends with a mite offering and a pledge for faithful service. The author, Reverend Carl Gnewuch, served the LWML as Pastoral Counselor from He is a graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, currently serving as senior pastor at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Birmingham, Michigan. He is married to Cindy for 25 years and they are blessed with children Stephanie, Mark, and Kyle. LWML President Janice Wendorf encourages all Lutheran Women in Mission to take advantage of this free downloadable resource: May the Lord encourage us through His Word to speak bravely and confidently what we know Jesus lived, died and rose for us!
