1 AT WHITE OAK GROVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH Cory A. Graves, Pastor 2600 Assembly Road April 2012 COMMENTS FROM THE COMMITTEE The Voice of God Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left. (Isaiah30:21 NKJV) How do you know what God wants you to do? How can you go about making decisions that honor the Lord? Though it would be nice for God to call with specific instructions for the next step you should take, He offers a combination of divine guidance instead. He promises to guide you, and to speak to your heart and your mind. How do you go about seeking His guidance in your life? Start with the Scriptures. The Bible offers teaching, instruction, stories, and wisdom. Reading Scripture feeds your spirit and helps you make choices based on your allegiance to God s values and your relationship with Him. Spend some time studying and reading God s Word. Meditate on the Psalms. Though what you read may not apply directly to your situation, hiding His Word in your heart through study and memorization will attune you to the wisdom of God. But general guidelines still won t tell you whether to go to your state university instead of an out-of-town college, whether to marry this man now or wait, whether to leave your old job and go to work at the corporation down the street. Ask the Spirit to guide you. God whispers to your heart, if you will take the time to be still and listen. Set aside quiet times for prayer. Ask specifically for clear direction. Then do what seems to be the natural next step, trusting that the Spirit will show you one step at a time. Circumstances offer another key to understanding what God would have you to do. List the pros and cons of a situation to give you a better perspective on what decision you should make. During times of stress and uncertainty, gathering with God s people is important. It is easy to get off track when you separate yourself from the body of Christ. Your church can be a wonderful resource as you seek God s guidance in your life. Many people can help you discern God s will, from someone in a prayer group or Sunday-school class to your pastor in a counseling session. No matter how many ways you seek God s guidance, in the end it comes down to making a decision, trusting that His voice will speak to your heart. Listen to God s Word, the wisdom of friends, your own analysis, and your heart. Then step out on faith that the voice of God is whispering in your ear, This is the way, walk in it. I Will Seek God s wisdom on a daily basis. Trust that I will be guided because it is God s pleasure to lead me in His ways. Let go of my agendas and allow God to surprise me. Be attentive to God s leading through circumstances and the counsel of others. Be willing to wait until I feel ready to decide instead of allowing myself to be pressured into hasty decisions. Be open to new ideas and new ways of doing things. Step out in faith, knowing God will direct me one step at a time. TEN THINGS GOD WON T ASK ON THAT DAY 1. God won t ask what kind of car you drove. He ll ask how many people you drove who didn t have transportation. 2. God won t ask the square footage of your house. He ll ask how many people you welcomed into your home. 3. God won t ask about the clothes you had in your closet. He ll ask how many you helped to clothe. 4. God won t ask what your highest salary was. He ll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it. 5. God won t ask what your job title was. He ll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability. 6. God won t ask how many friends you had. He ll ask how many people to whom you were a friend. 7. God won t ask in what neighborhood you lived. He ll ask how you treated your neighbors. 8. God won t ask about the color of your skin. He ll ask about the content of your character. Continued on back page

Same-sex marriage is already illegal in the state of North Carolina. The proposed measure, however, would add the ban to the state constitution. The Amendment would define marriage in the state constitution as between one man and one woman, and would ban any other type of "domestic legal union" such as civil unions and domestic partnerships. Genesis 2:22-24 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. LET ME BE GRATEFUL FOR... Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings, thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank you, Lord, that I can see. Many are blind. Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising, thank you, Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden. Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned, tempers are short and my children are so loud, thank you, Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely. Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced, thank you, Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry. Even though the routine of my job often is monotonous, than you, Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job. Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest, thank you, Lord, for life!

The man was a producer of fine peach brandy and told the preacher he would love to attend his Church IF the Pastor would drink some of his brandy and admit doing so in front of the congregation. The preacher agreed and drank up. Sunday morning came and the man came to Church. The preacher recognized him from the pulpit and said: "I see Mr. Johnson is here with us this morning. I want to thank him publicly for his hospitality this week and especially for the peaches he gave me and the spirit in which they were given." The minister was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to, at the end of the worship service, ask the congregation to come up with more money than they were expecting for repairs to the church building. Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular organist was out and a substitute had been brought in at the last minute. The substitute wanted to know what to play. "Here's a copy of the service," he said impatiently. "But you'll have to think of something to play after I make the announcement about the finances." During the service, the minister paused and said, "Brothers and sisters, we are in great difficulty. The roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected, and we need $4,000 more. Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up." At that moment, the substitute organist played "The Star-Spangled Banner." And that is how the substitute became the regular. One afternoon a man came home from work to find total mayhem in his house. His three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house. Proceeding to the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room, the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over the toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened. He found her lounging in the bedroom, still curled in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?" She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and ask me what in the world did I do today?" "Yes," was his incredulous reply? She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it." George W. Bush, in an airport lobby, noticed a man in a long flowing white robe with a long white beard and flowing white hair. The man had a staff in one hand and some stone tablets under the other arm. George W. approached the man and inquired, "Aren't you Moses?" The man ignored George W. and stared at the ceiling. George W. positioned himself more directly in the man's view and asked again, "Aren't you Moses?" The man continued to peruse the ceiling. George W. tugged at the man's sleeve and asked once again, "Aren't you Moses?" The man finally responded in an irritated voice, "Yes I am." George W. asked him why he was so uppity, and the man replied, "The last time I spoke to a Bush I had to spend forty years in the desert."

Including sesame seeds in your diet would be an ideal choice for vegans as it is often reported that they don t get sufficient amounts of iron and zinc in their diet. Sesame seeds protect our body from free radicals. Phytic acid present in these seeds inhibits colon cancer. These seeds contain sesamolin and sesamin, components that may help lower cholesterol levels and improve heart health. These components are also a good source of omega-6, vitamin E and monounsaturated fats that prevent furring of arteries and skin elasticity. The compound sesamin protects your liver from oxidative damage. Sesame seeds are the best source of calcium that contains far more calcium than dairy. A ½ cup of sesame seeds contains 3 times more calcium than a ½ cup of whole milk. Sesame seeds help relieve constipation. Just eat some seeds if you have constipation to relieve it.
