Every time you set a goal, you are saying, I believe God wants me to do this by such and such a date, and that is a statement of faith. If you state a big goal, God will work in a big way.

They affirm that you trust God, but they are also statements of how much you trust God. The Bible says, According to your faith let it be done to you (Matthew 9:29b NIV).

See how this works: When I ask you, What s your goal for your health? and you say, I don t have one, then your goal is to stay the same. When I ask you, What s your goal in your relationships?

Graves, Pastor APRIL 2016 Goals Stretch Your Faith According to your faith let it be done to you (Matthew 9:29b NIV). Every time you set a goal, you are saying, I believe God wants me to do this by such and such a date, and that is a statement of faith. If you state a big goal, God will work in a big way. If you state a mediumsize goal, God will work in a medium way. If you state a small goal, God will work in a small way. So you can see how goals stretch your faith. They affirm that you trust God, but they are also statements of how much you trust God. The Bible says, According to your faith let it be done to you (Matthew 9:29b NIV). This means that no goal is really a goal by default. In other words, if you don t set a goal, you ve already set it, and the goal is to stay the same. See how this works: When I ask you, What s your goal for your health? and you say, I don t have one, then your goal is to stay the same. When I ask you, What s your goal in your relationships? and you say, I don t have one, then your goal is for them not to get any better. When I ask you, What s your goal for your finances and getting out of debt? and you say, I don t have one, then your goal is to stay in debt. When I ask you, What s your goal for your business career? and you say, I don t have one, then your goal is to just drift along. That s why the Bible teaches us to have goals. They are a spiritual discipline. They challenge our faith. They develop our character, and they build our hope. How do your goals reveal how much you trust God to do big things in your life? In what area have you neglected to set a goal? He takes his job very seriously and is a no nonsense protector of the church and its parishioners. He wears many hats; postal worker, fireman, deputy sheriff, and security officer.

This year s recipient has a long history of service to others. He is a quiet unassuming man who is passionate about his work. He takes his job very seriously and is a no nonsense protector of the church and its parishioners. He wears many hats; postal worker, fireman, deputy sheriff, and security officer. He regularly supports the activities of the men s ministry and works hard during the activities that we involve our ministry from building ramps for the elderly to supporting the activities from other church ministries. Our recipient this year is none other than Dalphus J. Cooper, III. Congratulations, Brother Cooper. Thank you for all that you do! n SUNDAY MAY 15, 2016 WOG FOUNDER S DAY and FRIENDS & FAMILY DAY Sunday, May 15, we will celebrate our 111th Founder s Day. Everyone is asked to make a contribution in the amount of your age (ex. If you are 50 years old, your contribution is $50.00). Proceeds will benefit our Building Fund. Anyone who has been a baptized member of White Oak Grove 50 years or more, or who is 80 years old or older is asked to complete the form provided in the Sunday program and put it in the offering basket or give it to Deaconess Sharon Yancey. Also: Bring a few to fill the pew! Extend an invitation to family and friends to come and enjoy the WOG Worship Experience with us!

APRIL 2016 5 I tried this delicious dish a few weeks ago and enjoyed the Fruit Salsa so much that I had it as a snack the next day. Dip it with a bag of lime tortillas... ahhh!

5 APRIL I tried this delicious dish a few weeks ago and enjoyed the Fruit Salsa so much that I had it as a snack the next day. Dip it with a bag of lime tortillas... ahhh! Refreshing and satisfying as well a healthy! This recipe can be used with just about any fish you choose to prepare! I had mine with salmon! Still waiting on WOG cooks to share a recipe or two! Come on! Be a Sport! Bon Appetit! RECIPE CORNER Blackened Cod topped with Fruit Salsa INGREDIENTS For blackened cod: 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 tablespoon cumin ½ teaspoon smoked paprika ¼ teaspoon onion powder ¼ teaspoon oregano ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 lime, juiced 4 cod fillets 3 cloves garlic, minced For fruit salsa: 1 cup finely chopped pineapple ½ cup finely diced strawberries ½ cup finely chopped red bell pepper ½ cup finely chopped red onion ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 1 teaspoon honey DIRECTIONS Combine spices in a large baggie. Place cod inside baggie with spices, seal baggie and toss so that seasonings completely cover fish. Set aside. Heat a large cast iron skillet to medium high heat with about ½ teaspoon olive oil. Add minced garlic and saute for about 20 seconds, then add in your cod fillets. Let fish sear for 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook another 2 minutes. When fish is completely cooked it will be white and flaky throughout. Remove to plate and repeat with additional fish fillets, if needed. Squeeze lime juice over fish. While fish is cooking, prepare fruit salsa ingredients. Combine all fruits and stir in apple cider vinegar and honey. Once fish has cooked, top each fillet with fruit salsa. Hey! 10 10 THE JOKE S ON US Why do Brides Wear White? Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, Why is the bride dressed in white? The mother replied, Because white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life. The child thought about this for a moment then said, So why is the groom wearing black? h u h u h u 80 year-old woman getting married for 4th time An 80 year-old woman was recently married to her 4th husband. A reporter questioned the occupation of her newly acquired husband. She replied that he owned a funeral home. Curious about the other husbands, the reporter also asked about their occupations. The woman paused for a while and stated that her first husband was a banker. The second one she was madly in love with and he was a circus master. The third one was a minister. Puzzled by her answers, he replied, None of these people have anything in common! Why did you marry these? She stated that she married number one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go. h u h u h u Signs seen near churches The following are actual signs found on church property. When the restaurant next to the Lutheran Church put out a big sign with red letters that said, Open Sundays, the church reciprocated with its own message: We are open on Sundays, too. Have trouble sleeping? We have sermons-come hear one! A singing group called The Resurrection was scheduled to sing at a church. When a big snowstorm postponed the performance, the pastor fixed the outside sign to read, The Resurrection is postponed. People are like tea bags-you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are. God so loved the world that He did not send a committee. Come in and pray today. Beat the Christmas rush! When down in the mouth, remember Jonah. He came out alright. Sign broken. Message inside this Sunday. Fight truth decay-study the Bible daily. How will you spend eternity-smoking or Nonsmoking? Dusty Bibles lead to Dirty Lives Come work for the Lord. The work is hard, the hours are long and the pay is low. But the retirement benefits are out of this world. Our arms are the only ones God has to hug His children. It is unlikely there ll be a reduction in the wages of sin. Do not wait for the hearse to take you to church.
