LET God crystallize these truths in YOUR life. Sermon title: Biblical text: Main idea of sermon: Illustration I want to remember: What should I do as a result of hearing this sermon? Hold to God s Unchanging Hand 1 Time is filled with swift transition, Naught of earth unmoved can stand, Build your hopes on things eternal, Refrain: Build your hopes on things eternal, 2 Trust in Him who will not leave you, What so-ever years may bring, If by earthly friends forsaken, Still more closely to Him cling! 5 C. Wright. She joined the senior choir and taught Bible study on Wednesday nights. She now teaches Bible study at noon on Wednesday. In 2012, she organized the Women s Ministry Home Base Bible Study, which includes women of all denominations and meets every 2 nd Friday evening of the month. Since its conception, the group has grown from 15 members to 52. Her intentions are to enroll in the Bible classes of Payne Memorial Scholarship Seminary on-line to continue her education and earn a degree. It is her prayer that God gets the Glory out of her life. Her favorite Scripture is Psalm 121, I will lift up my eyes unto the hills from which cometh my help, my help cometh from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Praise the Lord!!! To God Be the Glory! Dwell Together in Unity Have you ever attended a church Where the tension you could feel, Where some members detested others, And their compassion was not real? Let s love our Christian sisters And our brethren in the Lord. Let s dwell together in unity, And let s worship in one accord. If others at times offend us By the things they do and say, We do not need to get revenge, And for them, we need to pray. Let us dwell together in unity. It is good, and it is pleasant too, For God s Holy Word tells us this. And that is what we should do. By Margaret Cagle Rev. Marshall L. Barnes To the Wonderful Women of The Grace Memorial Baptist Church, I want you to know how much I appreciate your service in church ministry here at The Grace Memorial Baptist Church. You have been such a blessing to our church family and all those with whom you work. It takes all of us to effectively serve and meet the needs of our church family and others in our community. God is faithful as He gifts and equips us to serve Him and those around us according to His purposes and their needs. We are grateful that God has placed you in our fellowship, and we are blessed by your work for Him. May God continue to bless and guide you. Always remember, He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe. It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (Ephesians 4:10-12, NIV). In His Service, Rev. Marshall L. Barnes Pastor Greetings From Our Pastor

6 Sis. Kelly Jones I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I would like to thank God for the Women of Grace for walking with me, guiding me, supporting me, and encouraging me through this well needed experience. I was snatch out of my comfort zone in a way no one but God can do and pushed back to where He wanted me to be. It was time for me to recover from my past falls, hurts and disappointments. It was time for God to remind me of my purpose, strengths and talents. I also thank those of you who pushed me because it was time for me to be reminded of my areas of growth and the areas that needed growth. I am thankful for all the Women of Grace that had faith in me, who prayed for me and encouraged me. I would like to sincerely thank the five (5) wonderful Women of Christ that was placed in my path for this journey. You have been my prayer partners, inspiration, advisors, and sounding board and we shared much laughter together. I would not have imagine this journey without these wonderful committee members: Sis. Tana Hicks, Sis. Sylvia Jones, Deaconess Hilton Patrick, Deaconess Norma Pope, and Sis. Winona Purcell. Again, to the Women of Grace, in these last few weeks, I have witnessed us beginning to walk in Unity, Spiritual Growth, Spiritual Healing, and Togetherness. I am excited to see what God has in store for us as we continue to walk in His name. To our pastor, Rev. Marshall L. Barnes, I thank you for your guidance, patience, advice, and support. May God continue to bless you and move you to the level you were destined to reach. Thankfully Yours, Sis. Kelly Jones Message From The Chairperson Morning Worship Guest Preacher Rev. LaVerne Steele Rev. LaVerne Steele accepted Christ at an early age along with her mother, grandmother, sisters and brother at Patterson Asbury A.M.E. Zion Church under the now late Rev. Howard Diggs. She was twelve years old at the time. During that time, she served as a youth Sunday school teacher, sang on the young people s choir and went to a number of youth conferences sponsored by the church. At the age of seventeen, she met and married the late John Alexander Steele. Out of the union they had two children, the late John Alexander III and Danielle Alecia Steele Brown. She has an adopted family, Jeremiah and Kimberly Johnson and their two sons, David and Jalin. At the age of thirty, Rev. Steele joined the Hemingway Temple A.M.E. Church family under the leadership of the late Rev. M. R. Camper. While there, she was on the Usher Board and sang with her sisters in what was to become the Voices of Victory, founded by Councilman Melvin L. Stukes and her mother, the late Audrey W. Woodard. For a time this was enough until God began to move her to join Bible study under the leadership of Rev. Howard C. Wright. From this relationship she began to grow with the Lord. Rev. Steele became a Steward of the church. She developed a nurturing class at the church and a Women s Ministry. She taught Sunday school and held many women s meetings in her home. In 1998 after the death of her husband, she answered the call to the ministry. She received her studies at the ITC Theology Bible Study School and under her pastor, Rev. Howard C. Wright. In March of 2000, she was ordained Local Deacon of the Hemingway Temple A.M.E. Church. After serving as a Steward and ministering at Hemingway Temple A.M.E. Church for six years, God then moved her out and into the Grace A.M.E. Church family under the leadership of Rev. Howard

7 Let s Stick Together For in fact the body is not one member but many. 1 Corinthians 12:14 M ost regions of the world are familiar with the amazing phenomenon of snow. Snowflakes are beautiful, uniquely crafted ice crystals. Individual snowflakes are fragile, and they quickly melt if they land on your hand. Yet, en masse they create a force to be reckoned with. They can shut down major cities while creating beautiful landscapes of snow-laden trees whose pictures decorate calendars and become the subject of artwork. They provide pleasure on the ski slopes and joy for children as they make snowmen and ammunition for snowball fights. All because they stick together. So it is with those of us who follow Christ. Each of us has been uniquely gifted with the capacity to make a contribution to the work of Christ. We were never intended to live in isolation but to work together to become a great force for God and the advance of His cause. As Paul reminds us, the body of Christ is not one member but many (1 Corinthians 12:14). All of us are to use our gifts to serve one another so that together we can make a significant difference in our world. Put your giftedness to work, joyfully cooperate with the giftedness of those around you, and let the wind of the Spirit use you for His glory! Joe Stowell Lord, teach us to use our strengths in cooperation with the strengths of others. Help us to serve as one so that we might know the joy of the power of our togetherness for Your name s sake and the advance of Your kingdom. We can accomplish more together than we can alone. For: Sunday, October 29, 2017 God s Covenant with the Returned Exiles Lesson: Nehemiah 9:32-38; 10:28-29 GOLDEN TEXT: Thou art just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly (Nehemiah 9:33). TODAY S AIM: To understand the covenant that God s people made with Him after the Exile. INTRODUCING THE LESSON: Sometimes we hear of a married couple renewing their wedding vows. Sometimes couples renew their vows on a special occasion, such as their fiftieth anniversary. Other times they may renew their vows following a difficult time in their lives. Why do couples renew their vows? Couples renew their vows to recommit themselves to each other; they agree again to love and care for each other. Perhaps we believers need to renew our vows to the Lord occasionally. We need to recommit ourselves to Him. In this week s lesson, we look at a time when God s people renewed their vows to Him. PRACTICAL POINTS: 1. As you endure hard times, be encouraged that God remembers you (Nehemiah 9:32). 2. God is just and punishes sin to refine and restore us (Nehemiah 9:33). 3. God has given us His Word, His servants, and His Spirit; His expectations abundantly are clear (Nehemiah 9:34). 4. Be careful not to let things and people that are precious to you become idols that draw you away from God (Nehemiah 9:35-36). 5. Misplaced priorities and disobedience enslave us when God wants us to be free (Nehemiah 9:37-38). 6. Any day, especially today, is the right day to begin again with God (Nehemiah 10:28-29). CONCLUDING THE LESSON: The Israelites in Nehemiah 9 and 10 acknowledged the sin of their ancestors and felt the need to recommit themselves to God s covenant. Sometimes we may sense the need to renew our commitment to the Lord. What are some times we may want to do so? A special occasion or after a period of waywardness from the Lord. The Israelites wrote out the covenant and signed it for accountability. It is easy to make a commitment or a recommitment to the Lord. It can be more of a challenge to follow through with that recommitment and make it stick. You too might want to recommit to follow the Lord.

9 such as Las Vegas, Nevada for three consecutive years. She has performed before sellout crowds in Disneyland, the opening of Disney World, the famed Copa and Ed Sullivan Theaters, and the Apollo Theater in New York City. She was blessed to perform on the following television shows: The Ed Sullivan Show, The Johnny Carson Show, The Flip Wilson Show, The Mike Douglas Show (21 times), The Robert Goulet Show, The Steve Allen Show, Hootenanny and Shindig Shows, and many more. She performed with her husband and singers throughout the United States and at one time, she and Calvin were the nucleus for the famous Ward Singers. She and Calvin became the first gospel singers to perform in a gospel series, a five part series entitled The Gospel Journey in 1979 for PBS Television. They were called back in 1981 to do another original television show entitled A Gospel Christmas. She and Calvin were married in After the death of Clara and Gertrude Ward, Malvilyn continued the legacy. Never releasing her gospel talents, Malvilyn found herself thrust into motherhood and was quickly employed by the Baltimore County Board of Education. She was named Baltimore County Secretary of the Year in In that same year, she was presented with the prestigious Stella Music Award commending her service as a founding contributor to the success of evolution of gospel music. With her husband Calvin, she was guest soloist at many prestigious affairs such as: The Stanly Sollins Memorial Awards Breakfast, Baltimore City s 200th Birthday Celebration, rededication of Baltimore s monuments, and many religious banquets and special occasions. She has had the privilege to perform for national and international dignitaries including the late Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson, civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Senator Robert F. Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, former mayor of Baltimore City Kurt Schmoke, Maryland congresswoman Helen Bentley, former governor of Maryland William Donald Schaffer, and numerous others. She has been blessed to be the pianist and inspirational soloist for the Ray of Hope Baptist Church for more than eleven years now under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Charles M. Franklin, Sr. and his encouraging wife Dr. Daisy Franklin. One of her happiest times in life was when she became a member of Ray of Hope Baptist Church on January 1, Above all Malvilyn knows the Lord and is quick to offer all praise to Him for her husband, son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren and for the many blessings He continues to bestow upon her. Both Malvilyn and calvin Statham were recipients of honorary doctorates from Lynchbury Seminary and College in Lynchburg, Virginia. Women s Day Committee ~ Chairperson ~ Sis. 10 October Women's Emphasis Month Our Guest Soloist Malvilyn T. Simpson-Statham Wednesday Night Speakers Malvilyn Tylitha Simpson-Statham, born August 27, 1944 to Malvin and the late Tylitha Simpson displayed musical talent at a very early age. Her parents would take her to shows featuring outstanding singers and musicians of the era. They always knew that these entertainers had a profound effort on little Malvilyn but had no idea of the career it would open up for her. Malvilyn started formal lessons but was soon to lose interest because she heard her own sounds in her mind. She began a real interest in gospel music at a very young age. Coming from a family of Catholics, her ideas of music did not come easy. Soon she was pleading with her parents to let her attend services at the local Baptist church. Before long, she was playing for various Baptist churches in Detroit. As she grew into her teens, she was able to join the Lemon Gospel Singers, a premier group known throughout the Midwestern states. Her parents permitted her to participate with these singers as long as her grades in school remained high. Malvilyn maintained a high average and she graduated from Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School in Detroit, Michigan in October 4th Sis. Kelly Jones October 11th Sis. Kim McDonald While performing at a local church in Detroit, she was heard by the late, great gospel singer Clara Ward and her mother, Mrs. Gertrude Ward. Having just graduated from high school, Malvilyn was more than thrilled when Clara and Gertrude Ward approached her parents inquiring of her availability to become a member of the famous Ward Singers. After persistence from Malvilyn, Mr. and Mrs. Simpson finally conceded to let her join these famous singers. Detroit was abuzz about their local girl joining the most prestigious group in gospel history. Malvilyn immediately became a soloist with the famous Ward Singers and helped to take them to even greater heights. Mrs. Ward and Clara always referred to her as their special star. October 18th Deaconess Charmaine Cook God blessed Malvilyn with experiences unheard of with the Ward Singers. She performed in every state within the United States. She performed in London at the Palladium, Tivoli Gardens in Denmark, Australia, Korea, Japan (more than 15 times), Italy, France at the famous Olympiad Theater, Spain, throughout Latin America, Canada, Israel, and throughout the Holy Lands. She even went to Vietnam to perform for America s troops in She was truly an ambassador for gospel, taking it to places it had never been
