Barnes, Pastor The Church That Cares Worldwide Wickedness Lesson: Genesis 6:1-10 GOLDEN TEXT: God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Genesis 6:5 TODAY S AIM: To show the extent of man s great wickedness on the earth. INTRODUCING THE LESSON: It was Bob Pierce who credited with the short prayer: Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God. If you and I were living in the days of Noah, this would have been a good prayer to pray because there was rampant worldwide wickedness, and God could not tolerate it any longer. Our lesson this week shows us a God whose patience and forbearance is not to be taken as a license to flout His holiness. PRACTICAL POINTS: 1. Believers build families on a shared faith in God (Genesis 6:1-2). 2. Be encouraged and remember that God will not allow human wickedness to go unchecked forever (Genesis 6:3). 3. Satan seeks to defeat God s people by tempting them to conform to the world (Genesis 6:4). 4. God sees all, and God knows all (Genesis 6:5). 5. In times of grace when we see God s patience, we must still remember that He is holy and will judge sin (Genesis 6:6-7). 6. God s grace is a daily demonstration of His love (Genesis 6:8). CONCLUDING THE LESSON: Think about the gravity of sin during Norah s day. Jesus Himself reminded us that the world will be the same when He returns. People will live life as if nothing were wrong, but evil will be rampant (Matthew 24:37). If sin during Norah s time was going to face the judgment of God, how can our world escape judgment? God has not changed; even in this age of grace. He will not tolerate sin. Persistent, unrepeated sinful ways will always incur punishment. 11:00 A M
