History The Bethlehem was organized in the late 1800 s or early 1900 s, singing spirituals, lined hymns, and note songs all in acapella. Note singing is a beautiful and unique sound.

3 History The Bethlehem was organized in the late 1800 s or early 1900 s, singing spirituals, lined hymns, and note songs all in acapella. Note singing is a beautiful and unique sound. It soothes the soul like a remnant of Eden, or a preview of the Promised Land. At the beginning of a song it would be customary to sing the notes:, calling their shapes by the syllables fa, sol, la, do, and mi. This was originally used as a way to learn the parts, rhythm and tune of a song. The Senior Note Choir was led by gifted and talented leaders. Early leaders were Bro. Rail Durrah, Bro. Cardell Sullivan, Dea. James Bailey, Sr., and Dea. Johnny Griffin. Since worship service was only once-a-month, the leaders often helped with other church choirs The Senior Note Choir was a member of the Reedy River 5th Sunday Convention. This 2-day Convention convened with churches with everyone note singing acapella. It was a great time of fellowship with area churches. Note singing began to fade in the 1970 s giving way to gospel singing with piano accompaniment. Dea. John L. Redmond was the 1st pianist for the. The choir was later reorganized. We ve had many musicians and leaders through the years Bro. Johnny Redmond, Sis. Deloris Summers, Bro. Danny Gilliam, Sis. Davida Mathis- Allen and Sis Rockell Scott. Our mission today is to serve God and others through our music ministry. It is our ultimate goal and prayer to unify the entire senior members so that we may be of a greater service to our church and community. Praise ye the Lord.
