WELCOME LETTER On behalf of the retreat committee, the pastoral staff, and Elder/Deacon Board, we want to welcome you to the CCCB 2015 Retreat. We welcome our special speakers Rev. Zhiqiu Xu and Rev. Daniel Au. We thank God for them taking time to be with us this weekend and can t wait to hear the word of the Lord through them. We appreciate all the time they put into helping us grow in Him. Au 2015 Daniel The best way to overcome any tired feeling is to rejuvenate oneself with a spiritual retreat long or short. We don t retreat from the Lord s work, but only more into the Lord s arms like a baby against his/her mother. Jesus told his disciples to come away with me and rest awhile. (Mark 6:31) There are times to work and there are times to rest. The rest helps us work hard and the work helps us rest satisfied. Satisfied that we are seeing God s will be done on earth as it is in heaven as we Enlarge our tent, expand our borders. ( 6:31) We hope you will feel refreshed with- all the spiritual food that awaits you-- ready to feed your souls and experience the fun to go with it! Relax. Enjoy. Spend time with family and friends and don t forget to frequently get alone with God in all the beautiful nature around us. Feel His presence in a fresh new way from sunrise to sunset His love is new every morning. Great is His faithfulness, O God. Be exalted. In our world of texting and chatting through plastic, it s nice to feel the gentle breeze of a cool summer night and hear the morning birds singing not because they have an answer, but because they have a song. Sing your song. Sing your worship. Tell the Lord and each other how you feel, listen to His still small voice through His general (creation) and special (the Bible) revelation and let s see what God will do this year in our hearts, minds, and relationships. Cast all your anxieties on the Lord, for He cares for you. (I Peter 5:7) God will take hold of our right hand and say, Do not fear, I will help you! (Isaiah 41:13) Many blessings on your weekend! Assistant Pastor Tom Tofilon 5:7 ( 41:13)

CCCB 2015 Retreat Theme Messages Speaker: Rev. Daniel Au Friday 8:30-10:00 PM Session 1: The One Who Promises Read together: Hebrews 10:23 1) Icebreaker: What are some of your expectations for this retreat? On a scale of 1 to 5, how much are you wanting God to change you at this retreat? 2) At work or at school, what things do you see your peers putting their hope in? Why do people put their hope in things other than God? Why is it so hard to believe? 3) The word insanity has been defined as continuously doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Are there things in your life where it feels like this? Are there pressures around you (family, parents, peers, work-related, etc.) that are pretty insane? How does God s faithfulness break us out of these cycles? 4) What do you most love about God? After sharing, pray together for the next few days and for each other s experience at this retreat
Devotional for Session 1 Hebrews 10:23 New International Version (NIV) Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23Expanded Bible (EXB) Let us hold firmly [without wavering] to the hope that we have confessed, because we can trust God to do what he promised [ L the one who promised is faithful]. Hebrews 10:23-25The Message (MSG) So let s do it full of belief, confident that we re presentable inside and out. Let s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching. Saturday 9:00-11:30 AM Session 2: The Ones Who Hope Read together: Ephesians 2:10 1) Icebreaker: Have everyone in your group share one thing that they ve made with their own hands and are the most proud or happy about. Why? How does that help us understand more the one who created us? 2) Close your eyes and imagine what you look like. Share some of the first things that come to mind are they positive or negative? We all get influenced by things around us affecting our image of ourselves (the group can share examples if time allows). As we re made in Christ Jesus, what does that mean for us and how does it challenge these outside influences? 3) Considering God s attributes omniscience (all knowing), omnipotence (immensely powerful), omnipresence (everywhere present), and omnibenevolence (infinitely good) which of these bring you the most strength and comfort? Why? 4) Why is it so easy to be afraid of what God has in store for you? In light of Ephesians 2:10, what do we really have to lose? Pray as a group for one another, asking God to help us see Jesus more clearly in our lives
Devotional for Session 2 Ephesians 2:10New International Version (NIV) For we are God s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10Expanded Bible (EXB) God has made us what we are [ L For we are his handiwork/workmanship/work of art]. In Christ Jesus, God made [created] us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing. Ephesians 2:10The Message (MSG) Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It s God s gift from start to finish! We don t play the major role. If we did, we d probably go around bragging that we d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing. Saturday 6:30-8:30 PM Session 3: The One Who RestoresRead together: Deuteronomy 23:5 1) Icebreaker: If a famous historian were to write a one sentence biography about you that best explains who you are, what would be that sentence? 2) What are one or two key life events (positive or negative) that have greatly impacted you or heavily influenced you to be who you are now? 3) Why do some people refer to their past as baggage? What are some of the negative effects our past can have on us? 4) In the passage we read, the Moab king hired Balaam to curse the Israelites, but God turned things around. Bad things happen to us, but why does God give us the past that He gives us? What are we to do with these experiences? 5) Reserve about 5-7 minutes at the end for silent prayer. What are some of the things in your past that you need to lay down at the feet of Jesus? Take some time to evaluate your personal history the high and low points and pray, offering those events to the Lord for Him to use. After a period of time, have the small group leader end the session with a closing prayer
Devotional for Session 3 Deuteronomy 23:5New International Version (NIV) However, the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you. Deuteronomy 23:5Expanded Bible (EXB) 5 But the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam. He turned [transformed; overturned] the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you. Deuteronomy 23:5-6The Message (MSG) No Ammonite or Moabite is to enter the congregation ofgod, even to the tenth generation, nor any of his children, ever. Those nations didn t treat you with hospitality on your travels out of Egypt, and on top of that they also hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Mesopotamia to curse you. GOD, your God, refused to listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing how GOD, your God, loves you! Don t even try to get along with them or do anything for them, ever. Sunday 9:00-11:30 AM Session 4: The One Who Leads Read together: Hebrews 13: ) God equips us for accomplishing -5- his work. How has he equipped you? How much influence do you feel you have in your own life or in your present circumstances? Is there anything that hinders your ability to influence others? 2) Romans 8:31 says, If God is for us, who can be against us? a. Who or what is against us? b. In what ways is God for us? How are things easier because of this? 3) Why do some Christians feel more urgency than others in pursuing after God s plans for them? What are ways to develop a healthy urgency for Jesus? 4) How can your church help you leverage your Godgiven gifts and talents to enlarge your tent and boundaries? What are concrete ways to improve your situation at church or in your ministry burdens? Who can you talk to about this? After this retreat, what are some key themes in your Jesus story that God can use to reach those around you? Do you have at least one goal that you want to set for yourself after this retreat in order to move forward in your faith in a way that you haven t done before?
Hebrews 13:20-21The Message (MSG) Divide into smaller groups and pray for one another s goals and the days and weeks ahead after the retreat. Devotional for Session 4 Hebrews 13:20-21New International Version (NIV) Benediction and Final Greetings Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21Expanded Bible (EXB) I pray that the God of peace will [or May the God of peace] give you [equip/prepare you with] every good thing you need so you can do what he wants [his will]. This God of peace raised from the dead our Lord Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the sheep [Ps. 23; John 10:11 18], because of[or through; by] the blood of his death [ L blood] that began the eternal agreement that God made with his people [ L of the eternal covenant/contract; 8:1 13]. I pray that God will do in us what pleases [is acceptable to] him, through Jesus Christ, and to him be glory forever and ever. Amen Pray for us. We have no doubts about what we re doing or why, but it s hard going and we need your prayers. All we care about is living well before God. Pray that we may be together soon. May God, who puts all things together, makes all things whole, Who made a lasting mark through the sacrifice of Jesus, the sacrifice of blood that sealed the eternal covenant, Who led Jesus, our Great Shepherd, up and alive from the dead, Now put you together, provide you with everything you need to please him, Make us into what gives him most pleasure, by means of the sacrifice of Jesus, the Messiah. All glory to Jesus forever and always! Oh, yes, yes, yes
