1 Ahava B Shem Yeshua Love In The Name of Jesus Monthly Newsletter Volume 3, Issue 2 December 2016 From Our Messianic Leader.. Do we think more of ourselves than we should? The body of Messiah is a beautiful thing. Every part of the body is crucial and very important. It would really be a weird body if it were all a mouth! Adonai has made me a mouth in the body, but surely the whole body is not a mouth. Many parts of the body are much more important than the mouth. How beautiful it is to see the body of Messiah functioning as He intended, all working together to serve our master Elohim in unity. Adonai has graciously planned our lives and has given each of us a special work to do. Some people are able to fulfill the plan that He has for their life in just an hour s time; others of us are slow and plodding, and it will take us a lifetime to fulfill Adonai s purpose for us. Remember Mordecai s question to Esther: How do you know but that God brought you to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esther4:14) The major purpose of Adonai s existence for Esther was fulfilled in just a few days. He raised her up, brought her into the Persian court, and made her the wife of the King in order that He, through her intercession, might spare the Jews. Our Lord and master Elohim has a special work for each of us to do and it is necessary that all of us be prepared for that work. A lot of us will spend the majority of our lives in preparation before our day will come. But be assured it will come. We will fulfill the purpose of God for our life and then we will pass on. His purpose for us will have been accomplished. Wherever we find ourselves, God has a reason for placing us there. He has His hand upon our lives and upon each circumstance in our lives. We may be going through some difficult trials, but the hardships are necessary. God wants to develop in us the characteristics that will enable us to fulfill His plan for us. God is working in each of us. We are His workmanship. His p o ie m a o r m a s t er p i ec e (Ephesians 2:10). God will work in each of us according to His grace so that we might accomplish the work He has ordained for us in His Kingdom and for His glory. Please keep in mind there is very little time commitment other than during the message on your Shabbat rotation (unless you want to be more involved). You will be given a short lesson plan and supplies. Come be blessed and join in the fun! For over a year, the Ahava Youth have partnered with Stepping Stones Agencies, a local organization that offers advocacy, support, emergency shelter services, and much more for women and their children in domestic violence and other dire situations. These spectacular quilts will be presented to the emergency shelter as an extension of the love of Yeshua as poured out in this thoughtful act of kindness performed by Ahava's talented quilting ladies. 7 Volume 3, Issue 2 Page 7 MESSIANIC 101 Terms & Definitions CHANUKAH FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS, FEAST OF DEDICATION December 25th, 2016 Sunday (1st Candle is lit Saturday December 24th at evening) through January 1st, 2016 Sunday Chanukah celebrates two miracles: a) The 2nd century BCE victory of a small, greatly out-numbered and out-armed army of Jews, known as the Maccabees, over the mighty Greek army that occupied the Holy Land. The rebellion was in response to the Greek attempt to force a Hellenistic lifestyle on the Jewish inhabitants of Israel. b) The kindling of a seven-branched Menorah (candelabra) was an important component of the daily service in the Holy Temple. When the Maccabees liberated the Temple from the hands of the Greek invaders, they found only a small cruse of pure and undefiled olive oil fit for fueling the Menorah. The problem was, it was sufficient to light the Menorah only for one day, and it would take eight days to produce new pure oil. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days and nights. How is Chanukah celebrated? On each of the eight days of Chanukah, we light the menorah, a nine-branched candelabra, after nightfall (aside for Friday afternoon, when the candles are lit shortly before sunset). On the first night we kindle one light plus the shamash (attendant candle), on the second night we kindle two lights plus the shamash, and so we continue until the eighth night when we kindle all eight lights plus the shamash. The menorah lights can be either candles, or oil and wicks. Yeshua in Chanukah It is traditional to eat foods fried in oil on Chanukah, to commemorate the miracle of Chanukah which occurred with oil. It is also customary to eat dairy foods during the holiday. It is customary on Chanukah to give money gifts to children, and to play dreidel games. It is also customary to give an increased amount of charity each day of Chanukah. Yeshua, the Suffering Servant, is the ultimate shamash, or servant candle. He is the light of the world, and those who follow Him will no longer walk in darkness. John 8:12 Yeshua spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. The one who follows Me will no longer walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (TLV). John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it (TLV). The only mention of Chanukah is not in the Tankah, but in the Gospel of John. John 10:22-23 Then came Hanukkah; it was winter in Jerusalem. Yeshua was walking in the Temple around Solomon s Colonnade. Then the Judean leaders surrounded Him, saying, how long will You hold us in suspense? If You are the Messiah, tell us outright! (TLV). Use this Feast of Dedication to rededicate your life to our Messiah, Yeshua HaMashiach, the true light. Chag Sameach!
