1 Ahava B Shem Yeshua Love In The Name of Jesus Monthly Newsletter Volume 1, Issue 12 October 2015 From Our Messianic Leader.. PRAYING When we pray our prayers do not have to be fancy. And we don t need to be afraid that we aren t using the right words or enough of them, since Elohim already knows what we need even before we ask. Matthew 6:7-8 NASB tells us: 7 And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. 8 So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. We are to trust Adonai who is all powerful and capable of meeting our needs as well as benevolent and caring. Yeshua s favorite address to Elohim was Father (Abba). This name for Adonai gives attention to Yeshua s compassion towards us and the standing we have before Him as children of the Most High. Our master Yeshua instructed us in Mark 11:24 that we are to have faith that we have received our answer. Mark 11:24 NASB 24 Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you. If we are faithful, we will receive what we ask for. Matthew 21:22 NASB 22 And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. Now of course all of this presumes that your prayer is with the right motive. Not your will, but the will of Adonai. Even Yeshua himself prayed in Luke 22:42 NASB yet not My will, but Yours be done. So when praying, pray with Honesty and in Truth! 6 Page 6 Ahava B Shem Yeshua MINISTRY UPDATES Ahava Children s Ministry Ahava' children's ministry is still looking for volunteers. We have been learning about the High Holy Days, memorizing Bible verses, eating snacks, coloring, making crafts, and playing! However, we don't want to keep all this joy to ourselves.! We could use more teachers and helpers in our rotation. Please keep in mind there is very little time commitment other than during the message during your rotation on Shabbat (unless you want to be more involved). You will be given a short lesson plan and supplies. Come be blessed and join in the fun! Reminders for parents of young children Please be aware there is NO CHILD CARE PROVIDED in the nursery other than during Shabbat School, which starts during the Torah readings. 7 Volume 1, Issue 12 Page 7 MINISTRY UPDATES Chag Sameach Mishpacha! Ahava Youth Ministry I pray that everyone's festival experience is off to a great start. In early September the Ahava Youth had a great time bowling with the Alliance Youth Group. We are praying for more opportunities to get to know this group and for ways in which we can grow the community of Messiah. As we enjoy this fall holy day season, we are very excited about the various activities on the horizon. I challenged our youth to a little, friendly festival challenge over the eight days of Sukkot: To read the entire Torah over the eight days of the festival! As we read in the Torah portion, VaYelech, a couple weeks ago, the public reading of the Torah happened during Sukkot each Shemittah year (Deuteronomy 31:10-11). How very appropriate! There are 8 nights/days in the festival of Sukkot and 5 books / 187 chapters / 5,848 verses in the Torah. In order to accomplish reading them in their entirety, the youth need to average 731 verses, or 24 chapters, each night. It will take them approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes each night with a steady read-through. They were asked to read it out loud as well - so that the words of Torah may emanate out from their lips into this world. Any youth who accepts and completes this challenge will receive a reward - in heaven, yes, but tangibly here too. The reward will be announced at a later date. Please join me in encouraging them in such a worthy endeavor. We are also looking forward to an evening of fellowship and scripture reading as we complete, together, the third Challenge day's reading portion around a bonfire at the Dempster's house on Tuesday night, September 29 at 6:30pm. 8 Page 8 Ahava B Shem Yeshua MESSIANIC 101 Terms & Definitions KIPPAS & TZITZIT Kippas (Yarmulkes or Skull Caps) - There is no Biblical commandment to wear a kippa. The wearing of a kippa is a Jewish custom that developed since the destruction of the temple. Yarmulke comes from the Aramaic words yerai malka (fear of or respect for The King). It is an ancient practice for Jews to cover their heads during prayer. Covering one s head during prayer shows respect for Adonai. In medieval times, Jews covered their heads as a reminder that Adonai is always above them. The scripture neither commands nor condemns the wearing of kippas, therefore it becomes a personal choice. Tzitzit (Fringes) - There is no particular religious significance to the tallit (shawl) itself, other than the fact that it holds the tzitzit (fringes) on it s corners. The tallit must be long enough to be worn over the shoulders (as a shawl), not just draped around the neck (as a scarf), to fulfill the commandment that the tzitzit be on a garment. If the tallit is longer, it must be folded as to not drag on the ground. The tallit can be made of any material, but not be made of a combination of wool and linen. Adonai spoke to Moses saying, Speak to Bnei-Yisrael. Say to them that they are to make for themselves tzitzit on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and they are to put a blue cord on each tzitzit. It will be your own tzitzit so whenever you look at them, you will remember all the mitzvot of Adonai and do them and not go spying out after your own hearts and your own eyes, prostituting yourselves. This way you will remember and obey all My mitzvot and you will be holy to your God. I am Adonai your God. I brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am Adonai your God. Numbers 15:37-40 (TLV) You are not to wear a woven mixture, wool and linen together. You are to make for yourself twisted threads on the four corners of your garment in which you cover yourself. Deuteronomy 22:11-12 (TLV) STEPPING STONES AGENCIES Ahava B Shem Yeshua s youth group has partnered with Stepping Stones to provide the Emergency Shelter / Transitional Housing with needs on a month to month basis. The youth group hand delivers these specific items. In addition to the list above, Stepping Stones is requesting donations of the following items in the month of October: 1) Paper towels 2) Dishwasher Tabs 3) 13 gal. Trash Bags 4) Napkins 5) Sponges For those who wish to donate other items (clothing, toys, household items, etc.) there is a curbside service available at: 6689 E. 1st Street, Prescott Valley, AZ Monday through Saturday 9 am to 5:30 pm, Sunday 10 am 5 pm. For larger items (furniture, etc.) please call to schedule pick up.
