1 1 Consciousness Class Chanukah Seminar Part 1 Notes Instructor: David Ghiyam 12/10/2008 All of the spiritual work we do in the 1% isn t real work, everything that we do is in order to communicate with the upper worlds. There are 2 main aspects to the spiritual work we do: - 1. physical actions of sharing, volunteering, becoming better people - 2. to understand the meditations, utilize the Hebrew letters, and Yichudim - Yichudim was done a lot by Rav Isaac Luria, is a meditation to correct the world i.e. Does an acupuncturist have the cure in his needles? No, the needle just activates your own healing system. - We do the spiritual work and master the technology of the Hebrew letters and Yichudim the most simple example of Yichudim are the 72 Names of God - these energies awaken our soul - Chanukah is the simplest holiday there is, but all of the work is done in our consciousness - The most pure energy of the creator is the Yud Kei Vav Kei name - the Tetragrammaton - We can t say the name only read it. The power in the name is so huge that no one on Earth has the vessel to contain the Light in it. - The first letter, Yud, is the seed of creation - World of Emanation - Atzilut - within Atzilut is the ten emanations of all of creation - After the sin of Adam, Adam being Zeir Anpin, Eve being Malchut, there was an explosion and Malchut/the Nukva separated from Zeir Anpin; the Fall of Adam - this created three sub worlds which are the rest of the name - Hei - Beriyah - Vav - Yetzirah - Hei - Asiyah - Shechinah - code for the Nukva that fell, after the fall of Adam we were kicked out of Atzilut, we are in exile - any lack or unhappiness we have is a result of us being in exile - in exile we have forgetfulness - everyday forget what work is truly important - imagine if the Light was with us all the time - The Centre is the home base, the Yud of the Yud Key Vav Key, when we are even physically in the Centre we are tasting being out of exile

2 2 The story of Chanukah: B.C. - time of the 2nd Holy Temple - the Greeks controlled Israel and the most of the world - some of them knew Kabbalah but believed that you could live a dichotomy of both negativity and positivity - the leader of Greece made rules for the Israelites - no circumcision - no Shabbat - no Rosh Chodesh - the high priest of the temple; Matityahu, had 5 kids - he understood that this would cause a deep exile of the Shechinah and the world would plunge into darkness - he went to war with the Greeks with his sons, called the Macabees - Macabee means there is no energy but the yud kei vav kei. Mi Kamocha Baolim Adonai (YKVK) - the war lasted for a year - during that time the candelabra in the temple was not lit - it took 8 days to make olive oil - you can only use the first 2 drops of oil from the olives for use in the holy temple - the miracle was that that little bit of oil lasted 8 days and that is the miracle of Chanukah - What does all that really mean? - Oil has the energy force of Chochmah, it is also called Chayah (life) - during the 8 days of Chanukah there is a light existing called the concealed Light - Or HaGanuz - this is the purest light we have - the small of portion of Light that did not fall with the sin of Adam - if a person can connect to this light there is no bread of shame - even if we haven t earned it, all we have to do is connect to the Or HaGanuz - with each lighting of the Chanukah candle we draw the Or HaGanuz into our life - there are 3 aspects to lighting the candles: to the extent of our certainty, knowing the meditation we will see miracles and 1 more - The Or Haganuz can be connected to by serving one of the 36 Righteous people alive now - it is said that just by looking at the face of a Righteous person it s like keeping a full Shabbat

3 3 - another way is by connecting to the Zohar - the Zohar is an antennae to connect to Or HaGanuz - the consciousness of the Macabees to create miracles was that if they don t have the Light there life is not worth living - if I don t have the Light today, there is no point in anything else - the only valid thing we can do is bring Light to the world - the Light takes us on paths only to elevate sparks of Light from us short circuiting in past lives in that exact same place - Kabbalists had no stress - wherever I need to go the Light will take me there - whatever I need to say, ask Rabbi Shimon to speak for me - awakening sparks from below is more important than any rush or need for something to happen Workshop - what is an area where we never create an awakening, we also jump to a conclusion, need, etc.? Ita ruta De latata - Awakening from Below - I am willing to sacrifice the 1% in order to connect to the 99% first - this is the 3rd part of the consciousness of lighting the candles - anything that is controlling us, just pause and say I want to create an awakening - that is how the body consciousness will die off

4 4 Consciousness Class Chanukah Seminar Part 2 Notes Instructor: David Ghiyam 12/17/2008 Review: Yichudim - combining meditations of the Hebrew letters with consciousness to draw down light - to master the upper worlds we have to learn the language of the upper worlds: the Hebrew letters - the language of the lower worlds is actions of restriction and sharing - the Kabbalists work is to remove space; no Satan - we aren t supposed to pray to heal someone, we need to pray for them to heal themselves - Awakening from Below: It aruta deletata - doing actions of restriction, awakening something below and then letting go, waiting for the response from the world above - there are 4 worlds - Atzilut - World of Emanation (before the sin of Adam) - after the fall of Adam - Beriyah - Yetzirah - Asiyah - These 3 worlds are represented by the Shechinah which is in exile - when the Nukva fell (the 3 worlds) the Shechinah left with it - on Chanukah the Shechinah and the King (Zeir Anpin of Atzilut) are together again -Whenever we bless our food, the soul we elevate stays with us as a type of guardian angel - Or HaGanuz - the only light that didn t go to the klippot after the fall of Adam - the Kabbalists say we shouldn t think about our negativity during the day; the day is for sharing, nighttime is for reflection - by breaking our patterns, we get out of our robotic nature and make it harder for Satan to find us - he knows to look for us in our comfort zones

5 5 - since the sin of Adam the Light of Netzach and Hod of Binah (Ima) of Atzilut are blocked - so by the time the Light goes through Yesod and to Malchut and then Zeir Anpin of Atzilut to the Malchut of Atzilut (us) the Light is diminished - when the Holy Temple was built the blockage was removed - after the burning of the temples, the blockage returned - what is our job now? the Righteous people of the world fixed Netzach, Hod is still blocked - Hod is the 8th sefirah from the top - there are 8 days in Chanukah - Chanukah opens the blockage of Hod - we meditate to connect to the corrected Hod - what happens after we draw the light of Hod? - we have to unite with the King - a spiritual intercourse; the lighting of the candles - for the unification of soul mates to happen, both names have to be complete in order to come together - whatever you are looking for when you are unbalanced spiritually, you will draw in a partner who is imbalanced - the word Chanukah when we rearrange the letters: Chana resting upon/dwelling upon and Caf + Hei = is the amount of letters in the meditation for the Shabbat candles soul mate connection - Chanukah begins on the 25th day of Kislev - the 25th word (or letter) in the Torah is Or: Light - the numerical value of Chana is 63, the same as Binah Lighting the Candles - the menorah should be at the left of the door as you walk in - opposite from the mezuzah - the main candle - the Shamash to light the other ones from - should be farthest from the door and we light from that candle towards the door - we place the candles right to left, light them left to right (light that night s candle and then light the previous nights candles) - we fill the oil away from the door working towards the door - should be higher than 30cm but not higher than our head - light after sunset - the candles should last 30 minutes and we should sit with the candles during that time

6 - Every major redemption was brought about by a woman - Netzach is male energy, Hod is female energy - Netzach means forever, Hod is temporary energy - the final redemption will be a male energy, meaning an energy that lasts, that is Mashiach 6
