1 Congratulations to all Year 6 for completing SATS week! One of the favourites was the space exhibition on the ground floor, where we learnt how astronauts eat, sleep and go to the bathroom. YEAR 5 TRIP THE SCIENCE MUSEUM On Thursday 7th May, as part of our Science space topic, Year 5 went to the Science Museum! We were so eager we arrived before the doors even opened, first in line to enter the museum! We were divided up into small groups, each of us being given a treasure hunt to complete on our way round! We all explored a number of exhibits. We also enjoyed the medicine area near the top of the museum, where open heart surgery was seen and also the mini-models on level 3. After all our exploring we all met in the Briefing Room to meet an actress portraying Svetlana Savitskaya, the first woman to perform a spacewalk. 1

YEAR 3 TRIP - THE SYNAGOGUE In R.E. Year 3 have been learning all about the Jewish Way of Life.

This was so we could experience some of what we had been learning about in the classroom for real! We travelled to the British Synagogue at Marble Arch and there we met a lady called Helen.

You have to be very strong to perform a spacewalk!! Before we knew it, it was time for lunch. As it was such a beautiful day we decided to walk to the park to have a picnic lunch.

2 YEAR 3 TRIP - THE SYNAGOGUE In R.E. Year 3 have been learning all about the Jewish Way of Life. On the afternoon of Wednesday 14 th May, Year 3 descended on three mini buses after lunch, to travel to the Synagogue. This was so we could experience some of what we had been learning about in the classroom for real! We travelled to the British Synagogue at Marble Arch and there we met a lady called Helen. She was our guide for the afternoon. We began by sitting in pews, hearing all about the history of the building. We learnt lots about her life and her time in space. You have to be very strong to perform a spacewalk!! Before we knew it, it was time for lunch. As it was such a beautiful day we decided to walk to the park to have a picnic lunch. The synagogue which we were in used to be a church and even had an organ!! Helen told us that it is the only synagogue which she had even been in which has an organ! There was also an Ark, which holds the 5 Torah Scrolls, which are the first 5 books of Moses. Willa and Gus were chosen to open the Ark. This was a very special job! Mrs. Grimmer then had to get out one of the Torah scrolls. On our way we discovered the Royal Albert Hall and investigated the surrounding Victorian architecture, tying in with our History project on the Victorians. After a relaxing picnic it was time to dash back to attend our slot at Launchpad! Here we were able to explore Science in a handson way, generating electricity, working pulleys and creating music! We were having such fun in the Launchpad that we almost forgot the time! We had to quickly gather together to find the mini-buses and get back to school on time! A great day was had by all! 2 You cannot touch the parchment of the Torah scrolls and so she had to be very careful! Slowly, Helen took all of the coverings off the Torah, so we could see the scroll. She opened the scroll a little bit, so we could see the Hebrew writing. When they read from the Torah, they cannot touch it, so to help them follow the words they use a pointer or Yad, just like we might use our fingers or a ruler! After Helen had talked to us we were then able to wander around the synagogue. We enjoyed exploring the synagogue and saw many things, including stained glass windows, the special clothes which they might

Whilst they have a great deal of fun and success building their own worlds and games, they really seemed to enjoy the prospect of working closely together, sharing the experience of discovery with their friends. MATHS MISS MEEKINGS Miss Meekings' maths class were faced with a challenge for which they had to decide the success criteria before commencing on the challenge. Today year 3 happened upon an iron man crime scene! We are looking forward to some newspaper reports next week! LIGHTS CAMERA PARLIAMENT! Club Competition Results The winners of the competition have been announced and although we didn t win one of our entries was amongst 25 to be highly commended by the judges! This was the Reintroduction of Wolves to the British Countryside law by Lewis, Hayley, William and Cyrus, all in Year 5. Congratulations to them! To see our mention on the website go to 5

6 PARENT/TEACHER MEETINGS The Summer Term Parent/Teacher Meetings take place on the following days: Monday 22 nd June - Year 2, 5 and 6 Tuesday 23 rd June - Year 2, 5 and 6 Wednesday 24 th June - Year 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 Thursday 25 th June - Year 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 We do not hold any morning appointments. The first appointment is at 1.40PM with the last at 5.40PM. If you are unable to book a Parent/Teacher meeting at these times then you will need to contact the Form Tutor directly so they can book a free time in their timetable to see you. We will go ahead with our picnic and suggest jumpers and anoraks. Year 6 Families are planning an informal picnic in Kensington Gardens on Sunday 17 th May between 11:30AM and 4:30PM. All years are welcome to join and so if you find yourself at loose end, please come join us near Queen Caroline's Temple, just north of the Serpentine Gallery off the West Carriage Drive. Lancaster Gate, High St. Ken and Knightsbridge are the nearest tube stations. Bring a picnic and a blanket and whatever else amuses you. PTA Sports Day Meeting Wednesday 20 th May This will take place in the Meeting Room at 36 Causton Street, starting at CS Geography Club Hampstead Heath Thursday 21 st May Members of the Causton Street lunchtime Geography club will be going to Hampstead Heath to do some orienteering. They will be back at school for 2.30PM. A packed lunch is required. Year 9 Starlight Fashion Show Friday 22 nd May Year 9 will be running a Fashion Show that the Senior School Staff and Pupils can take part in. There will be 3 categories 1. Through the Ages 2. Gender Bender 3. Spice up your life! Pupils wanting to take part in the fashion show will need to provide their own outfits! All pupils at Causton Street will need a packed lunch. Mufti Day / Break up for Half Term Friday 22 nd May Pupils can come to school dressed in Mufti. School will finish at the normal time of 3PM. KS3 Play Thursday 11 th June There will be 3 separate perfomances on the evening of the 11 th June, starting at 6PM at Causton Street 1. Year 7 will perform Bully for Theseus. 2. Year 8 will perform Land of Never. 3. Year 9 will showcase a video project entitled Fairley Dead! Sports Day Friday 12 th June Sports Day will take place at Tooting Bec Athletics Track. More information to follow Whole School Photo / Clubs End Thursday 18 th June The whole school will go to Archbisops Park for the annual school photo, from 9AM. This will be avaliable to buy at a later date. Full School Uniform please, including ties and blazers. Girls can wear their Summer dresses, with blazer, if they prefer, Also on this day Clubs will come to an end until September.
