Created in Six Days The first chapter of Genesis tells us that God created the world and everything in it in six days. As told in Genesis 1, this is how it happened: Day 1: God created light (verses 3 5). Day 2: God created sky (verses 6 8). Day 3: God created seas and dry land (verses 9 13). Day 4: God created the sun, moon, and stars (verses 14 19). Day 5: God created birds and fish (verses 20 23). Day 6: God created land animals and people (verses 24 31). Day 7: Creation was done. God rested (Genesis 2:1 3). 2. The Best Was Saved for Last God saved the best part of His creation for last. After all else was done, He took dust from the ground and formed it into a man, then He breathed the breath of life into the man. The man became a living, breathing creature. God called the man Adam, which means of the earth. This new creation was different from the other living creatures God had made. God breathed His own breath into Adam. Adam was given a spiritual nature. He was able to think or reason and to make choices. Most important, he was able to know and love God. Genesis 1:27 says, God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. This shows us that both male and female were created in the image of God. BFP: 26, 343, A Companion for Adam When God created Adam, He decided that Adam should not be alone. He brought all the animals to Adam to see what Adam would name them. But none of the animals were quite right to be a companion for Adam. It was still the sixth day of creation when God made a companion that was just right for Adam. He caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep, then He took one of Adam s ribs and made a woman from it. When God brought the woman to Adam, Adam named her Eve, which means taken out of. Adam and Eve were made greater than all the animals and fish and birds. They were to rule over the animals not as rulers who take from others to make themselves rich, but as rulers who take good care of the creatures they rule. God placed Adam and Eve in the perfect garden He had created so they could enjoy it and care for it. BFP: 25, 344
