2 HUDDLE UPS (OPTIONAL) Huddle ups are for churches that have a drop-off time before the session begins or a pick-up time as parents arrive at the end of the session. It s a great time for interaction with a small group leader through games, conversations, or review questions. Play the countdown video to signal the end of Huddles Ups and the beginning of the session. Estimated time: varies according to schedule Tech: none People: Small Group Leaders Supplies (for each small group): God Made People Coloring Pages coloring supplies and coloring pages; Beanbag Toss 5 paper plates, 1 beanbag BEANBAG TOSS Before the session gather five paper plates and one beanbag for each group. Number the paper plates 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Welcome kids to your small group. Encourage kids to stand in a circle. Scatter the paper plates in the middle of the circle. Invite a child to toss a beanbag onto a paper plate. Guide him to name the same number of people that he knows. Allow kids to name people in the room, friends, and family members. Comment: Today our story is about how God made people. He made all the people you just named! GOD MADE PEOPLE COLORING PAGES Share with preschoolers that today they will hear how God made people. Distribute coloring supplies and coloring pages to the preschoolers. Invite them to color on their pages while they wait for the session to begin. If the kids prefer to use blank paper, they can color on the back of the page. GOD MADE PEOPLE (after the session) Invite kids to sit in a circle. Ask kids to go around the circle and say their full name. Say the phrase God made before each child introduces himself. Ask kids review questions.. ŜHow Ŝ did God make the man? (dust of ground) ŜWhere Ŝ did the man and woman live? (in the garden) ŜFrom Ŝ how many trees were the man and woman not allowed to eat? (one) ŜWho Ŝ made people? Kids will count aloud as they join the large group.) Kids stand to sing.) Hi there! Everyone stand and clap six times with me. Now stomp your feet six times. How about we slap our legs six times. Finally, let s jump up and down six times. Nice job! We thank You for Your love. We thank You for making people who can make choices. Help us to make good choices that show You how much we love You. In Jesus name, amen. Now it s time to check in with Imogene! WORSHIP BIBLE STUDY LEADER I m so glad you are here today. We have been learning about the things God made. We ve learned about the day, night, water, land, plants, sky, sun, moon, stars, fish, birds, and animals. Whew! God has made so many things. But there is one more thing the Bible tells us that God made. And there is a clue right here in this room. (Pick up binoculars and look around the room.) Let me look around and see if I can find what it is. I see the ceiling, the floor, the walls. (Look around at each object). I see a chair, a light, and a Bible. But there is one more very important thing that I see. In fact, I see (begin to count people) one, two, three, four, well, a lot of them. It s YOU! (Point to kids.) Today our Bible story is how God made people. On the sixth day of creation God made the animals that live on the earth. But that s not all. God made people. (Show Life Point slide.) Yes, God made me and you, and your mom, and your dad, and your friends. God made everyone. God made people. Say it with me. God made people. One thing we can do is love the people that God made. In fact, our Bible verse says we should love our father and mother. BIBLE VERSE (SELECT PREFERRED VERSION): Love your father and mother. Use items such as 3 books and 1 block, 3 crayons and 1 marker, 3 paper plates and 1 napkin, and 3 rubber bands and 1 paperclip. Place each set in a gift bag. Choose 4 kids to pull out each item from one bag. Ask the kids to name each item. Choose a new set of 4 kids for each bag. CONNECTION POINT LEADER (Show Connection Point Game slide.) Hi there! Welcome to Connection Point. I m so happy to see you. I have a great game to play with you today but it s going to take some good thinking skills. 4 I have a bag with four items in it. So, I need four people to help me out. (Choose four kids to come up. Introduce each child.) Please reach into this bag and pull out one item. Don t say anything until everyone has picked an item. Then, I m going to ask you to simply name the item in your hand. Got it? (Allow kids to answer). Great. Here we go. (Allow each child to choose an item. Go down the line and ask each child to name the item.) OK, so we have three things here that are the same, and one thing that is different. Which one is different? (Allow kids to answer). That s right. Let s see if we can find four things that are the same in the next bag. (Play the game with the second bag, third, and fourth bag enlisting new kids for each round. Ask kids to remain in the front and hold each item.) OK, so each bag had three things that were the same and one that was different. Today, our story is about God making people. When He created people, He made them different than anything else He had created. After we sing today, we are going to hear how God created people and why they are so different than anything else. (Connection Point Leader leaves.) Kids stand to sing.) I am so thankful that God made us. He made us with the ability to sing and praise Him. Let s sing a song of praise and worship to God today. (Lead kids to sit as song ends.) BIBLE STUDY LEADER (Show Bible Story slide.) We ve had a great time learning about the things God created. Today we are going to learn about the last thing God created. Do you remember what it is? Let s open our Bible and discover it together. (Open the Bible and read Genesis 1:26-27.) Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth. So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female. On the sixth day of creation, God made animals, but did you hear that He also made people? The Bible says God made a man out of the dust of the ground. (Squat down and touch the ground.) He breathed life into him and the man became alive. (Stand up straight.) God made people different than anything else He created. God put the man in a garden to live. God told the man to take care of the fish (place the palms of your hands together and move them left and right like a fish swimming), the birds (place your arms out to the side and flap them like they are wings), the animals (place your hands out parallel to the ground and step them forward one at a time as if they were walking), the plants, and the trees (pose with arms out to represent limbs of a tree). God told the man that he could eat from any tree in the garden except for one. (Hold up one finger.) But God saw that the man was all by himself and all alone. (Look around.) God said, I will make him a helper. So God made a woman. God made the first man, named Adam (hold up pointer finger on one hand), and the first woman, named BIBLE STUDIES FOR LIFE PRESCHOOL WORSHIP UNIT 1 SESSION 3 4

5 Eve (hold up pointer finger on other hand). (Open the Bible and read Genesis 1:31.) God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. Adam and Eve lived in the garden and they were allowed to eat from any tree except for one. (Hold up one finger.) God had made everything in the garden. God made the ground, the sky, the plants, the animals and God made people. and about how He created them. If you would like to give an offering today, (Give your own directions for how the kids can give their offerings.) WORSHIP (After collecting the offering, guide kids to stand for the remainder of the worship song.) We can sing and thank God for making the world and for making people. Stand with me. (Show Life Point slide.) Let s split the room into three parts. I want the first group to say God, the second group to say made, and the third group to say people. (Point to each and say the sentence several times in order.) (Show Christ Focus slide.) People are different from other things that God made. People can choose to obey God or not obey God. Even when we disobey God, He still loves us. That s why Jesus came to the earth. God loves us and sent His Son, Jesus for us. Jesus made a way for people to follow God s plan. Let s pray and thank God for making us. Dear God, thank You for all of the beautiful and wonderful things You created. Thank You, most of all, for making us and for making us differently from the other things You made. Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus to make a way for us to follow Your plan. Help us to always love You in everything we do. In Jesus name, amen. One way we can show thankfulness and love to God is by singing to Him. Optional Giving Segment: Another way we can show love to God is by giving an offering. We give so that other people can hear about Him CONNECTION POINT BIBLE VERSE Estimated time: 5-8 minutes Tech: Connection Point Bible verse slide, Bible Verse slide People: Connection Point leader, all kids ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS: Teach kids the sign language for the word love by crossing their arms over their chest. Lead kids to pose in positions that represent their father and mother. Teach kids the sign language for the word book by holding their hands in front of them as if they are holding a book. 6 rib of a man. God made people with the ability to choose. They can choose to love or choose not to love. The Bible tells us to love people. In fact, our verse tells us to love our father and mother. Everyone stand up and pose in a position of something your Dad likes to do. Maybe he types on a laptop or grills hamburgers outside. Maybe he coaches your soccer team or sings in the church choir. Everyone show me something your dad likes to do. But do it without making any noise. (Allow kids to pose.) Great job. Now, can you show me something your mom likes to do. Maybe she bakes cookies or answers s. Maybe she plants flowers in the garden or teaches piano lessons. Everyone show me something your mom likes to do. But do it without making any noise. (Allow kids to pose.) I want to teach you the sign language for the first word in our Bible verse. The sign for the word love is made by crossing your arms over your chest. Do it with me. (Cross arms over chest.) (Show Bible Verse slide.) Let s say our verse and I want you to make the sign for the word love and then pose in the position of something your dad likes to do when we say the word father and pose in the position of something your mom likes to do when we say the word mother. Then when we say Deuteronomy 5:16 hold your hands out like a book to show that the verse comes from the Bible. Let s say it all together and do the signs and pose as we say it. (Say the verse several times with the kids.) Good job, everyone! You see, God made people and He wants people to know that He loves and cares about them. During the week remember to pray for the prisoners in Thailand. Let s go ahead and pray for them now. WORSHIP Dear God, thank You for sending missionaries to tell people about Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for Jack Martin and for his work in telling the prisoners in Thailand about you. Please help the people in the jail understand that they can have hope by trusting in Jesus. In Jesus name, amen. (Look through binoculars and describe a child. Say something such as: I see a boy with short brown hair wearing a red shirt. Who did God make? Allow kids to answer. Invite the child described to use the binoculars and describe another child in the room. Play until several kids have been described.) We know that God made everyone in this room. God made everyone in this building. God made everyone in our church, our town, our state, our country. In fact, we know that God made every person in the world! (Show Life Point slide.) God brought the animals to the man. The man named all the animals. But God knew that none of the animals would be the right kin d of helper for the man. God made the man fall asleep.
