The word Bible means book. The Bible is a collection of 66 books. BFP: 1 1. The Inspired Word The Bible is inspired by God. God told the writers exactly what to write. That means every word of the Bible is God s Word. In 2 Timothy 3:16, we learn that all of Scripture was inspired by God. Second Peter 1:20,21 explains that the prophets were men who spoke God s words given to them by the Holy Spirit. About 2,500 times in the Bible, it tells us God inspired it. Since God inspired every word written in the Bible, it is the most important book we could ever read. When we read the Bible, God will speak to us through His written words. The most important things we can ever learn are found in the Bible. BFP: 289, 291, The Reliable Word The Bible was written by about forty people, from the time of Moses to the years shortly after Jesus was crucified. That s about 1,600 years, yet all the different people who wrote the Bible taught the same thing. The message of the entire Bible is the same, no matter who wrote it, and no matter when it was written. The message is that God loves people and wants them to be saved through His Son Jesus. We can trust that the words of the Bible are true. Many prophecies in the Bible have already come true. There are over 300 prophecies just about Jesus. All of them came true. The stories you read in the Bible are true. You can find many books with good stories in them, and some of the stories you read are true, but all of the stories in the Bible are true. God inspired people to write those stories to reveal God to us so we can know Him and how to live for Him. BFP: 9, 10, The Instructing Word The Bible says all of Scripture is useful for instruction. That means the Bible teaches us. It teaches about God, about His love, about His Son Jesus, and about how we can be saved and go to heaven. The Bible teaches us about people in the past who loved God and served Him faithfully. It also teaches us about people who did not love God and what happened to them. These stories help us understand how to live so we can please God. These stories also help us see how God works in the lives of people who trust Him. Since the Bible teaches us all these things, it is important to read the Bible every day. Even if we read just a little each day, we will learn how to be what God wants us to be as Christians, and our faith in God will grow. BFP: 485
