2 Hajj: Symbol of Muslim Unity By Galal Fakkar, Arab News JEDDAH, 15 December 2007 Sheikh Osama Khayyat, an imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, yesterday described the annual pilgrimage as a symbol of Islamic unity and solidarity and urged Muslims to strengthen their unity by upholding the teachings of Islam. Delivering the Juma (Friday) sermon to nearly two million faithful including a large number of pilgrims, Khayyat decried sectarian violence. Don t become infidels after my death, killing one another, the imam said quoting a saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He said the protection of life, wealth and honor of Muslims was essential to achieve unity. Killing a person without any legitimate reason is prohibited in Islam, the imam told the faithful, emphasizing Islam s total rejection of terrorist acts. Khayyat urged the pilgrims to make use of their blessed journey for achieving the objectives of Hajj, such as establishing a close relationship with God, cleansing themselves of sins and bolstering unity. Nearly 1.6 million pilgrims from different parts of the world have already arrived in the Kingdom for Hajj, which begins on Monday. More than 2.5 million are expected to perform Hajj this year. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah arrived in Jeddah yesterday to supervise the services being rendered to pilgrims. Interior Minister Prince Naif, who is chairman of the Supreme Hajj Committee, will inspect today the Hajj facilities in the holy sites, including the newly established Jamrat Bridge project. The large Haram Mosque complex overflowed with pilgrims yesterday, the last Friday before Hajj. When the spaces in the inner courtyard filled up, the pilgrims chose spaces in the outer courtyard. Latecomers spread their mats on stairways of the shopping mall overlooking the mosque and later in the narrow alleys behind. The Hajj is often described as the world s biggest religious gathering, and men and women from more than 100 countries take part. Some of the largest contingents come from Indonesia, Iran, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey and Egypt. See how people come from all over the world Chinese, Pakistanis, Algerians, even Americans. It shows that we are all brothers, said an Algerian who gave his name as Ibrahim. Saudi state television said on Thursday the police were taking strict measures to keep out aspiring pilgrims from the Kingdom who do not have a Hajj permit. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to perform Hajj this year. Iranian media said on Wednesday that Ahmadinejad had received a formal invitation from King Abdullah. لبيك اللهم لبيك... لبيك لا شريك لك لبيك إن الحمد والنعمة لك والملك... لا شريك لك 2 of 4
3 By Velma Cook So many people have tried to define love. Often it means different things to different people. Everyone admits they need it. It seems to be an emotion; a feeling on bonding between people. But does it occur in a snap? There are certain ingredients which it contains; upon which it is built. Without them, love will not be found. People need to be respected, listened to, forgiven, taught and their needs must be met. If such aspects are missed love does not emerge. How often people look at their spouse and think that at that moment, they really hate them. Then at a future time see another aspect of their personality and feel a deep loving feeling towards them. No one loves somebody all the time. Human beings are very complicated and can experience so many emotions at the same time. There are also many sides to our personalities. Yet relationships are often based on this abstract emotion called 'love' and when it disappears the relationship often dissolves. Perhaps if we wait a little and be patient we will see another side of the person which is more acceptable and to our liking. We can learn to 'love' that part of the person and try to ignore the other parts. People are not disposable. Editor-in-Chief Column By Sattam Almadani What a joy seeing our friend's graduation after years of hard study. They were waiting this moment the day they enter the university hoping to give back the best they can do to their country and society. But also what a sad moment watching them leaves us after becoming an important part of our lives. And also after sharing us good and bad time. This is life, people come and go. But the only thing will remains is friendship. It is all about having a true friend, a friend that is indeed a friend. A friend who deserves to be a friend. A true friend will be always there for you. By helping you and giving you advise. A true friend will never let you down whatever it takes. Friends By Kara F. Friends are forever Keep them in your heart cause you never know If that day comes to part If they re your friend You will know By the way they smile, And the way they glow Every day is a book of memories A smile to show A tear of love And a laugh to grow This day will leave Another to come, But your friends will stay, Until you re done. 3 of 4

Movies Review (Yahoo Movies) By Bader Alotaibi Five Fun Things to Do In a Final: Q & A By Abdulaziz Alkassabi 1. As soon as the instructor hands you the exam, eat it. 2. Try to get people in the room to do the wave. 3. Every five minutes, stand up, collect all your things, move to another seat, and continue with the exam. 4. Bring a black marker. Return the exam with all questions and answers completely blacked out. 5. Bring a pillow. Fall asleep until the last 15 minutes. Wake up, say, "oh geez, better get cracking," and do some gibberish work. Turn it in a few minutes early. St Louis Science Center You'll learn a lot and also have fun! Well Maintained, you're sure to have a good time at the St. Louis Science Center. Who knew learning could be this much fun? Smile. :) The little camel went to his mother and asked, "Mother, why do we camels have such big eyes?" She looked on him lovingly and replied, "You see, my son, when we are walking in the dessert and the wind starts to blow and there's sand everywhere, we need these big eyes to keep an eye on one another so that we don't get lost." "Oh!" he said. "And why do we have such huge feet? "Well," she said, "they allow us to walk easily in the dessert sands and help us avoid sinking into the dunes." "Wow," he said, "great equipment. What the heck is this stuff on our backs for?" "You see," his mother informed, "we can walk for days, even weeks without food or water, so we use it to store fat during those times. But why do you ask me all these obvious questions?" "Well, mother," said the young camel, "I was just wondering, if we've got all of this great stuff, what are we doing in the zoo?"
