Indeed it is great pleasure to reach out to you with yet another edition of Hindu Deep. Hindu Council of Kenya held its AGM in April and our great team has taken challenge to serve our members with full dedication, commitment and new ideas. As soon as we formed various teams with tasks given to them they have already and actively started with unique events which you will find details in this issue. MEGHAVARNAM SHUBHAANGAM LAKSHMIKAANTAN KAMALNAYANAM YO- GIBHIRDHYANA GAMYAM, VANDE VISHNUM BHAVA BHAYAHARAM SARVALOKAIKNAATHAM Meaning I worship that Lord Vishnu who has a peaceful body (postures); who rests on Sheshanaga (the mighty serpant - cobra); who has a lotus in his navel, who is the base of the world, who is like the sky; who has a colour like cloud, who is the lord of Lakshmi (wealth); who has eyes like lotus; who is seen by yogis in their meditation; who is the remover of all the differences and who is the only Lord of all the three Lokas (Worlds), I worship such Lord Vishnu This is very special year as the General Election is on 8 th August this year and already many political activities have started. We as Hindu Council of Kenya, being nonpolitical institution we will always remain neutral but will participate in various duties such as Election Observers etc. We will also pray and participate in any activities related to peace. We advise our members to be part of this democratic process and vote wisely for the great future of this Nation. It is also advisable that we do not spread any rumors; in case any clarification is required please get it through authentic sources only. 2 HCK DIRECTORATE WOMENS WING mind and enlightenment of its inner cores was What Indian Culture Is The Indian culture is described as 'Sa Prathama Sanskrati Vishvavara' - the first and the supreme culture in the world. It is honored as a divine culture. Today, when the country is undergoing haywire transformations on cultural front and facing cultural diversion and adulteration - the influence of occidental civilization and commercialization has over shadowed the way of life of even those who vaunt for the great cultural heritage of India., it has become more important to review the original form and expansion of the Indian culture, analyze its foundationprinciples in scientific light and present in detail its different aspects, which deal with the day to day life of people and which are useful for the righteous progress of the world.. The core of Indian culture, as shaped by the revered rishis, revolves around the principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' - treating the entire world as our own family, which reflects universality of serene love, altruism, sharing of responsibilities and caring for all beings.. The central theme of Indian cultural development has evolved from the Indian philosophy of continuity of life and realization of the soul as a manifestation of divine impulse. Successive refinement of human consciousness by elimination of animal instincts and evil tendencies of the therefore given maximum importance by the rishis. The system of shodas samskaras was devised by them for this purpose. The shodas samskaras, performed at different stages of human life, aim at continuous refinement and escalation of the individual self. The methods of performing these samskaras and adoption of associated disciplines in personal and social life constitute an important component of Indian cultural system. It is a culture of this type which produces true saints, altruist social reformers, martyrs, great personalities, intellectuals, scientists and spiritual masters of the kinds of the rishis, who, like angels, bestow the world with divine grace through their noble deeds and ascetic characters.. The purity of intrinsic faith and arousal of inner sentiments are regarded most important for the realization of divinity existing in the inner self. The methods of upasana prescribed under the Indian cultural principles lend excellent support in this direction. The source of aspirations and happiness and the ultimate core of sentiments - the inner self too gets refined and charged by the devotional practices of upasana and it experiences absolute peace and blissfulness. info@hck.or.ke 2

4 HCK DIRECTORATE DIRECTORATE OF YOUTH HAD ORGANIZED SPEAKING FOR SUCCESS AN INTERACTIVE SESSION ON PUBLIC SPEAKING BY REPUTED TRAINER AND EFFECTIVE SPEAKER MS ROZY RANA ON SUNDAY MAY 28TH. IT WAS WELL ATTENDED BY MAINLY YOUTH WHO TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE PROGRAM. RELIIOUS AND CULTURE DIRECTORATE HAD FEW PROGRAMS IN THE LAST MONTH, THEY STARTED WITH OM CHANTING ON MAY 6TH., FOLLOWED BY SATVIK FOOD. ON 27TH MAY 2017 HCK RELIGIOUS AND CULTURE DIRECTORATE HELD A SATVIK FOOD DEMONSTRAITION IN THE GROUNDS OF HCK OFFICE. THE DEMO WAS GIVEN BY Mrs CHETNA M DESAI THE DIRECTOR HERSELF. THE EVENT WAS WELL ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 100 LADIES AND WAS APPRECIATED. SATVIK FOOD MEANS FOOD WHIHC HELPS IN BALANCING THE MIND AND BODY, WHICH WAS WELL DISPLAYED AND PREPARED IN THE DEMO. THE COMMITTEE WORKED HAND IN HAND FOR THE SUCCESS WITH ZEAL AND ENTHUSIASM. THE EVENT CAME TO AND END WITH SOME LIGHT REFRESHMENT HCK DIRECTORATE- HCK TEAM TOOK PART IN FAMOUS RATH YATRA HELD ON 28TH MAY. THE RATH YATRA STARTED FROM ISKCON TEMPLE NGARA AND ENDED AT KICC. info@hck.or.ke 4

Mr JAYENDRA MALDE THE DIRECTORY WAS PRESENT THOUGH- TOUT THE REGISTRATION PROCESS TO HELP THE APPLICANTS. THE EVENT SAW MORE THAN 300 PLUS REGISTRATIONS. DUE TO SHORTAGE OF TIME ALL REGISTRATIONS COULDN T BE DONE. HCK WOMENS WING ARE QUITE ACTIVE AND THEY HAVE TAKEN PLEDGE TO HCK DIRECTORATE- MAKE SURE TO TEACH ENG- LISH WHO FIND IT DIFFI- CULT TO SPEAK OR WRITE. THEY WANT TO EMPOWER THE WOMEN WITH BOTH WRITTEN AND SPOKEN ENG- LISH. THE CLASEES WILL START FROM JUNE 7TH. 10 HCK DIRECTORATE WOMENS WING Why Speak the truth? Kabir, the poet - saint was humming a doha(a couplet) as he sat weaving in his hut. It is natural for saints to revel in divine thoughts, even while engaged in work. Suddenly, the front door of his hut was thrown open and there stood a ruffian, Quick, show me a place to hide, the policeman is after me! demanded the intruder rather rudely. Kabir calmly pointed to bales of cotton huddled together and said, There! There you will be safe! I am trying to nab a thief, I saw him running in this direction. Did you see him? Kabir, in his unique style, casually pointed to the bales of cotton. The policeman, looked at Kabir s face and thought that Kabir was lost in his own world, like saints are. So he did not take him seriously and left hurriedly. After sometime, the thief emerged safely from the bales of cotton and confronted Kabir, You are a saint. You are supposed to protect anyone who takes refuge in you, even if he be a sinner. Why did you reveal my hiding place to the police? What if I had been exposed? My dear friend, Kabir spoke to the robber affectionately. I spoke the truth since I was sure that only truth was capable of protecting you. If I had uttered a lie, it would have landed both of us in trouble. Truth alone saves us in the long run. Falsehood leads to ruin and sorrow. The thief gave up his wrong ways and became Kabir s disciple. info@hck.or.ke 10

You can send articles or events relating to hindu Religion and culture, business,happenings, programs and events, thoughts, excerpts from personalities varied subjects are welcome which we will evaluate and publish stating contributors name and if possible photo..in order to encourage children who are our future leaders and flag bearers its good to teach and practice Hindu Dharma and its benefits through articles. Hindu council has a library which has collection of books ranging from Amar chitra katha,to epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. Hindu deep is our news letter where will mentioning the activities of various directorates conducted during the period. We do cover branches of hinducouncil of kenya as well. Under the able leadership of our Chairman Mr Nitin Malde and General Secretary Mr Kamal Gupta backed by Trustees, Vice Chairmen and Management committee members we wish to communicate that our strength is because of member institutions and their contributions.
