EASTER SUNDAY HOLY COMMUNION - ELW 4 6:30 A.M. ~ Sunday, April 20 th ~ 9:00 A.M. CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN, INDEED! This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and offer to God our highest praises for breaking the bonds of death by raising Christ from the grave! Today, the highest festival day of the Church Year, the risen Christ comes to us to share his presence in the proclamation of the Word and in the sharing of the Eucharist. The Savior welcomes everyone to His Table of grace, both member and visitor alike. To all guests and visitors we pray God s blessing upon you as your presence is a blessing to this service of worship. We Proclaim a person who has faith in these words, given for you and shed for you for the forgiveness of sin, is worthy and well prepared to receive the Sacrament. Children who are not instructed for Holy Communion are invited to come and receive a personal blessing. WORSHIP AIDS A NURSERY is located upstairs by the balcony. Though the nursery is not staffed, it is available for your use. ACTIVITY BAGS for young children are on a stand at the rear of church; please return after services. Thanks. A PREFERENCE to receiving grape juice is indicated by raising your index finger to the server. I WISH CARDS are in your pews; please let us know your ideas to improve our Trinity home. LARGE PRINT BULLETINS ARE AVAILABLE. Please ask the usher for a copy. GATHERING WE PREPARE: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Today God Prevails. On the first day of the week God began creating, transforming the darkness into light. On this, the eighth day of the week, Jesus was raised from the dead. We gather here to celebrate this new creation in the waters of our baptism and in the feast of victory. With great joy we celebrate this Day of days beginning the great 50 days of Easter. Filled with hope, we go forth to share this Good News that Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! PRELUDE RINGING OF THE BELL George Hirschbock and Molly Dunn PARISH NOTICES (As we begin in the entry of the church, the congregation is invited to turn around) CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, the fountain of living water, the rock who gave us birth, our light and our salvation. Amen. Let us come into the light, the revealing and healing light of God. 2

God of grace and glory, you have brought us through the night of sin into the light of Jesus' resurrection. Yet our lives are still shadowed by sin. O God, make us alive in Christ. Make us new as you make all things new. Rescue us from evil and the gloom of sin, renew us in grace, and restore us to holy living, through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen. Rejoice with all creation around God's throne! The light of the risen Christ puts to flight all evil deeds, washes away sin, restores innocence to the fallen, casts out hate, brings peace, and humbles earthly pride. Jesus Christ loves you and + frees you from your sins by his blood. To him be glory and dominion forever and ever! Amen. (6:30 The Paschal Candle, representing the Light of Christ s presence, is returned in victory) PROCESSIONAL SONG Jesus Christ Is Risen Today ELW #365 3

GREETING Alleluia! Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. KYRIE A Day Bright with Joy Sr. Choir 4

(6:30) CANTICLE OF PRAISE PRAYER OF THE DAY O God, you gave your only Son to suffer death on the cross for our redemption, and by his glorious resurrection you delivered us from the power of death. Make us die every day to sin, that we may live with him forever in the joy of the resurrection, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 5

WORD FIRST READING Acts 10:34-43 NT page 113 The first reading is in Acts chapter 10, verses It is found in the New Testament on page 113 of your bibles. Peter's sermon, delivered at the home of Cornelius, a Roman army officer, is a summary of the essential message of Christianity: Everyone who believes in Jesus, whose life, death, and resurrection fulfilled the words of the prophets, "receives forgiveness of sins through his name." And now the Reading Then Peter began to speak to them: "I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. SECOND READING Colossians 3:1-4 NT page 178 The second reading is in Colossians chapter 3, verses 1-4. It is found in the New Testament on page 178 of your bibles. Easter means new life for us as it first meant new life for Christ. His resurrection reshapes the entire focus and motivation for our lives, since we are now hidden with the risen Christ in God. And now the Reading So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. The Word of the Lord. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Thanks be to God. 6

GOSPEL Matthew 28:1-10 NT page 29 The gospel is found in Matthew chapter 28, verses It is found in the New Testament on page 29 of your bibles. Sorrow gives way to "fear and great joy" when two women are sent by an angel to proclaim the good news: Jesus is risen! And now The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew the 28 th chapter. Glory to you, O Lord. After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.' This is my message for you." So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, "Greetings!" And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me." The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. CHILDREN S MESSAGE (9:00) SERMON The Return of the Alleluias! Pastor Keith Ainsley 7

SONG OF THE DAY Thine Is The Glory ELW #376 CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 8

PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH SHARING THE PEACE The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. MEAL PRESENTATION OF BREAD & WINE (Wine & Bread is brought forward by the communion assistants) ELW#184 OFFERING PRAYER Let us pray. Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, for the glorious resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, the true Paschal Lamb who gave Himself to take away our sin, who in dying has destroyed death, and in rising has brought us to eternal life. And so, with Mary Magdalene and Peter and all the witnesses of the resurrection, with the earth and sea and all their creatures, and with angels and archangels, cherubim and seraphim, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: 9

WORDS OF JESUS LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 15 Mini Bio: Ana Schubbe-Director of Youth Ministries I d like to share a little bit about myself with you I have been in the Sleepy Eye community since April The only time I wasn t living in the area for an extended period of time was during when I was married to a U.S. Army Blackhawk Pilot and living wherever the Army sent us orders. I moved back to Minnesota in May of 2009 and have been here ever since. I worked as a staff member (Membership Specialist & Community Program Specialist) for Girl Scouts of MN & WI River Valleys from 2010 until later in For Girl Scouts I facilitated programming with girls grades K-12 and was responsible for the training & management of nearly 300 volunteers. While working for Girl Scouts I was able to create imaginative/innovative curriculums, and best of all, I was able to have a lot of fun with my job and those I served. My hope in serving as the Director of Youth for Trinity Lutheran Church is to provide engaging activities for Trinity Youth & serve as a mentor and positive role model. Lastly, I have a personal goal to act as a kind of cultural liaison for Trinity and the growing Latino community in Sleepy Eye. Gifts that assist me in that vision include my fluency in Spanish & English. I m also looking forward to being wedded to Chris Turbes on July 12th, 2014 right here at Trinity Lutheran Church! I also look forward to opportunities when we can connect our mission and volunteerism with the wider community. If you have any questions or thoughts you d like to share with me, please contact me using the following addresses: Trinitylcyouth@gmail.com or cell # Thanks, Ana! PLEASE JOIN ST.
