Further being empowered by the Holy Spirit to respond to the love of God, we confess Jesus as our Lord. It is the mission of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church to proclaim Jesus Christ as Savior, and to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we grow following Jesus Christ as our Lord. Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even if they die, will live, and everyone who lives and belieues in me vill neuer die. John 11: 25-26

2 A d v entures in Minis t ry! Membership at Prince of Peace. For some time now we have been working on clarifying our membership roster in the Church Office. Not a front-burner issue, exactly (this week s bulletin or sermon is a higher priority), but important. It is a... complicated... process, however: We don t want to exclude anyone who might benefit from being connected with our congregation. This is part of our responsibility as a community of the faithful. On the other hand, to send our newsletter (or other Church information) to people who don t have any interest in this part of the one body of Christ is neither good stewardship nor good evangelism. We don t have a clear record of exactly who is connected with us! This might seem strange at first, but when you start thinking of the number of changes that you might have made this past year (cell phones? addresses? Relocation?), then multiply that by hundreds of members over several years.... Well, you get the idea. In addition, we might have a name (Joe Methuselah) on one of our previous lists. Was Joe a visitor who came for a time? Did he ever actually join? Did he move away? Join another congregation? For many people on our lists, we just don t know. In an ideal world, a dozen volunteers could spend hours with our existing lists tracking down contact information, then more hours calling up those we haven t seen (sometimes for years) to see determine their situation. We just don t have that kind of volunteer time. In addition, studies indicate that once a member has been inactive for more than six months, only 2% will become active again. This suggests two things: It is not good stewardship to take limited volunteer time and put it toward something with a 98% failure rate; and We need to do a much better job of keeping in touch with members immediately, not after they have been missing for months! After extensive work by Patti (Office Secretary), with wonderful assistance by Willi Hartung ( Computer Programmer ) and Carlene Kaler ( Data Technician ), we are finally developing one comprehensive database. The largest category within this list is Member, those who worship at and financially support Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. A smaller group is Associate, Those who have their membership in another congregation, but for various reason (or at various times) share their time, talent and possessions with our congregation. We will also be listing Spouses, husbands or wives of members, so that we can greet these people with courtesy when possible. The last category will be Larger Church, including neighboring congregations and pastors those who share in the one mission of the one Church. This preliminary roster is presently before our Deacons and our Council, all of whom are reviewing (and praying about) those listed. It appears that Prince of Peace will list between 200 and 250 Members. If you have any concerns or questions about this, please speak with me. I would welcome your input! We don t want to exclude anyone who might benefit from being connected with our congregation. A next step in this process will be to update our contact information for all of our members (and Associates, and Spouses) so that we can once again produce an accurate and useful Church Directory! Ask yourself this: Did I change my address or phone number (cell or landline) in the past months? Did I inform the Church Office of this change? Please help us with this information! 2 Pastor Jon

Evangelical Lutheran Worship c 2006 Page 761 May the Joy and Hope of this Easter Season lead you to pray for your love ones. Morning and Evening pray. Dear Jesus, please help (add the name or names) love ones to know you: Thank you for.. your works, rich in glory divine! Looking to some works of evangelism at Prince of Peace, I have invited several doing the work of an evangelist to join the committee. Some have accepted. Two pioneers in this work are Donna Hall and Joe Scott. Donna has agreed to pray for evangelism work at Prince of Peace. She has done much to promote and teach about the Biblical application of healing. Joe Scott has used and is using his knowledge of gardening and the Bible in the development of the Bible Garden at Prince of Peace. Flowers of the Bible and How to Grow Them by Allan Swenson C 2002 This book is located in our church library and includes information about Joe and the Prince of Peace Bible Garden. 8 HELP FEED THE HUNGRY The Augusta Food Bank needs your help. The first Sunday of every month has long been designated as Feed the Hungry Sunday at Prince of Peace. April 3rd is the first Sunday of the month. Our local food bank is always in need of canned goods, (vegetables, soups, sauces, tuna etc.) pasta meals, mac & cheese, cereals, snack items like granola bars and crackers, toiletries etc. Please bring your items in at any time and place them in the shopping cart in our Narthex entryway. Bud Walters is our representative at the Food Bank. He regularly collects the food and delivers it to the Food Bank. Thank you for all you do to serve the needs of others less fortunate in our community. PRINCE OF PEACE BENEVOLENCE GIVEN IN MARCH The very generous giving of the people here at POP has made it possible for us to help 3 families with rent to avoid eviction, helped 3 families with oil to keep them warm, helped one man on probation with legal fees, paid 2 nights in Motel 6 for a homeless man and provided 2 Hannaford cards and 1 gas card to people in need. God bless you for your faithful giving. You truly make a difference here in Kennebec County! 8

9 Highlights of March 14, 2011 Council Meeting Financial Secretary Duane Scott reported on the church s current financial situation. We are over $5,000 behind in our envelope giving. To make payroll, we had to borrow $1,000 from Special Funds. There are also bills waiting to be paid in the amount of $4,300. Rev. Peter Drever was a guest at the Council meeting. He gave a presentation on KIVA, a Christian program that serves as a resource bank, offering loans in $25 increments to aspiring entrepreneurs in developing countries. The Council supported the formation of a POP KIVA club and will look into getting more information about the organization and how it works. Rev. Peter Drever made a suggestion that Council give Pastor Jon one weekend off per quarter. Council will take Peter s suggestion to POP s Mutual Ministries Committee. Peter offered to serve in Pastor Jon s stead on the weekends he has off. The church will soon have a revised and up-to-date membership list. It will make it easier for the deacons to stay in touch with each of our members. Council approved a fifth week of vacation for Pastor Jon, as he has not received a salary increase in a number of years.
