4 TIME OF PRAYER Seal it for Thy courts above Debbie Welch Call to Confession When we gather to praise God, we remember that we are people who have preferred our wills to his. Accepting his power to become new persons in Christ, let us confess our sin before God and one another. Prayer of Confession Wondrous God, who sets suns and moons above us, mountains and valleys beneath us, and friends and strangers among us: how often have we tried to hide from your presence, how seldom have we looked for your creating face and your fashioning hand! Lord, have mercy upon us. Wondrous God, who took upon yourself flesh of our flesh in Jesus our brother, and being found in human form made the ultimate disclosure of yourself in the face of Jesus Christ: how often we have forgotten you, how seldom have we really loved and followed you! Christ, have mercy upon us. Wondrous God, who pours out freely the Holy Spirit: how often have we ignored your promptings, how seldom have we asked for your help or accepted your gifts! Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, Go in peace; keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about their physical

7 needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18 But someone will say, You have faith; I have deeds. Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder. 20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. He is also a member of the Presbytery of the Inland Northwest Guatemala Task Force, having made five mission trips to the Central American country since When not having fun at Knox, John is having even more fun as a member of the hated news media. He has been at the

10 weekly newspaper the Cheney Free Press since August 2000, serving as editor since November John is also busy planning a wedding with Sheila Schindler after this year s mission trip to Guatemala. Richard and Debbie Welch have a long history (nearly three decades!) of membership and involvement with Knox. They are currently serving with PC(USA) as educational consultants for indigenous peoples in Guatemala. Misty Rowley attended Knox from 1992 as a junior high student until Since returning to Spokane in 2005, Misty and has been an active member previously serving as Girl's group leader ( ) and currently as Worship Elder. She has two grownup-ish children (Venessa 21, and Joshua 19). Misty currently works as a Speech Language Pathologist with Spokane Public Schools and is very much looking forward to summer break in 3.5 days (but who's counting!?). 11 God, all through this day you have watched over me on the streets of my busy schedule, nourished me with blessings that I cannot count. And still your faithfulness does not sleep nor slumber, but continues even when the sun goes down. What a blessing to dwell in your presence!
