Explanation of the Week: The Spirit of truth testifies of Jesus, who is the Truth. But the world does not receive the Truth. It loves its own and hates those who are of the Truth. Just as Jesus was scorned, so is His church. "The time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service." (Jn 15:26Ñ16:4) Yet it is by Jesus' suffering and death that we are saved. Therefore we rejoice to share in His sufferings, that we may also share in His resurrection glory. (1 Pet 4:7-14) Through the ministry of the Spirit of truth, we are cleansed from the deceit of our idols and given a new heart and a new spirit, the heart and Spirit of Christ. (Ezek 36:22-28) He is now at work in us to have fervent, self-giving love for one another, love which covers a multitude of sins, "that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen."

5 ~Epistle Lesson & Sermon Text 1 Timothy 4:6-16 If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed. Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. Command and teach these things. Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 11 For the summer, the second service is at 10AM. Bible class and Sunday School are suspended until the Sunday following Labor Day. However, the Bible Information Class continues at 11AM. The class is open to anyone interested in learning about or reviewing our Christian faith. Annual Report Deadline: All church Boards, Committees and Groups, need to submit reports for to the church office by 1PM June 5, for the June 25 meeting. Reports are needed from the Board of Deacons, Board for Stewardship, Board of Budget & Finance, Board of Trustees, Evangelism Committee, Membership Committee, PTF, Booster Club, and Lutheran Girl Pioneers. Synod LYA Registration: The registration fee for this year s Lutheran Youth Association (LYA) trip to Cincinnati, Ohio on July 27-30, 2017 is $300. The convention s theme is Saved Through Water. Other stops as needed along our path through Iowa and Illinois are also made. The bus trip includes in the cost an afternoon at King s Island Amusement Park in Mason, Ohio ( The initial $100 reservation fee is due Tuesday, June 6. Riders sleep on the bus. Bring a blanket and pillow or sleeping bag. A parent s/guardian s signature is required on the form. 16 As we prepare to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, we will be including in our weekly bulletins a brief section taken from the Lutheran Confessions. The Lutheran Confessions, found in the Book of Concord, identified and summarized the Biblical beliefs of the Lutheran church and distinguished it from other churches. Since these writings are drawn from the source and norm of our beliefs, that is, they are drawn from God's unchanging Word found in Holy Scripture, we continue to profess these teachings as our own. We encourage you read and prayerfully consider these important teachings of our church. In the Lord s Supper we truly receive the very body of Christ which was born of the Virgin Mary, and the very blood of Christ which trickled down the wooden cross. This is not a magical transformation produced by a priest, but the result of God s Word being connected to the earthly elements according to Christ s command. FORMULA OFCONCORD, EPITOMEVII. [THEHOLYSUPPER OFCHRIST] We believe, teach, and confess that in the Holy Supper the body and blood of Christ are truly and essentially present and are truly distributed and received with the bread and wine. We believe, teach, and confess that the words of the testament of Christ are to be understood in no other way than in their literal sense, and not as though the bread sym bolized the absent body and the wine the absent blood of Christ, but that because of the sacramental union they are truly the body and blood of Christ. Concerning the consecration we believe, teach, and confess that no man s work nor the recitation of the minister effect this presence of the body and blood of Christ in the Holy Supper, but it is to be ascribed solely and alone to the almighty power of our Lord Jesus Christ. But at the same time we believe, teach, and confess with one accord that in the celebra tion of the Holy Supper the words of Christ s institution should under no circumstances be omitted, but should be spoken publicly, as it is written, the cup of blessing which we bless (1 Cor. 10:16; 11:23 25). This blessing occurs through the recitation of the words of Christ. 16
