From Shelly Frost The 2014 VBS program is underway and plans are being made for another amazing MUMC adventure into the "Workshop of Wonders." This year's VBS is will be held July 28-Aug. 1 from 6-8:30 p.m. each night. If you are interested in helping with this year's program please contact Shelly Frost at jstsfrost@comcast.net. Below is a list of items we are asking to have donated. We will be building care bags for both SHARE and the Milford Welfare Department. VBS kids will be involved in building the bags. If you are able to help, please bring in donations and put them in the box marked VBS in the narthex. Another part of the building mission is birthday bags. For a birthday bag we will put together in a bag a boxed cake mix, candles, a can of frosting and sprinkles. We will also add a homemade birthday card and make that person s day extra-special. These bags will also be given to SHARE for distribution. 2 A Message From Pastor Wes Dear friends, We are really into the summer season with warmer days, ants, biting bugs including black flies and mosquitoes, growing gardens, swimming, kayaking and all the adventures that summer brings. It is a time when we can revisit the beauty of God s creation and discover how God brings new life from the earth and from us. It can also be a time when we lose track of our worship life choosing a full day of sunshine over our regular worship experience. I want to encourage you to make worship a priority through the summer months. If you need to come to an earlier service, if you need to find a church near your summer camp, or whatever it takes to keep worshipping through the summer. This summer we will be focusing on community. We will see how Jesus taught us about the importance of community and how we can still seek to live out his hope for community in our lives. The place where we learn the basics of Christian community is in church. We don t always get it right, but we seek to grow in our understanding of how we can live out Jesus hope for our lives together. I encourage you to join us and open yourself to discovering all that Christian community can be. It is a reminder that we don t do faith in isolation. Jesus continues to call us into community and desires that we learn from each other, care for each other and love each other. In a world of digital entertainment and individual screens, we can lose our connection with one another and with our world. Let this summer be a summer of Christian community. Discover how the community can bless you and how you can bless the community. The apostle Paul writes in Romans chapter 12, Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. In Christ s love, Don t forget!! SHARE will also be collecting school supplies over the summer to give to children who need them in September. Please feel free to bring in any of the following items and leave them in the SHARE collection box as well. 4 New England Annual Conference 2014 From Pastor Wes This year s Annual Conference session was held at Gordon College from June 11th through J u n e 1 3 t h. D a v e Stackpole and Pastor Wes were there representing Milford UMC. The theme was On the Wings of Love: P owere d by Presence and Service. The Thursday evening session of the 2014 New England Annual Conference gave the conference the opportunity to hear from our Bishop. In his Episcopal Address, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar recounted some of the many blessings he has experienced through the ministries in our New England Conference. He highlighted the importance of Christian community, and outlined three dimensions as we are formed in Christian community: Up, In, and Out. The up dimension of our Christian faith is lived out through prayer and worship as personal and community practices, the Bishop said. The in dimension of our Christian faith as individuals and as a community emphasizes the importance of relationships with other brothers and sisters in our community of faith and people who live in our neighborhood. The in dimension also pays attention to the nurture of our spiritual lives. And we go out to our community and to our world as we become present to others and as we model servanthood to others. The Bishop challenged us to live more deeply into these dimensions of Up-In-Out in our work and ministries in the New England Conference. We are the Church God s people flying high on wings of love, powered by our ministry of presence and service in the New England Annual Conference. The Conference also celebrated the work of our own Dave Stackpole who served as the Coordinator of Volunteers in Mission from 1993 till Dave continues to serve by offering training for persons in Early Response Training for disaster relief. The work of Imagine No Malaria was celebrated throughout the meeting with an additional $18,000 being raised at the site of the annual conference. 5 The Lamplighter s Bible Study is taking a break for the summer. We will start meeting again September 10. All ladies are welcome. Psalm 19:14 (CEV) Christian Aftercare Ministry From Margie Frank CAM continues to need gently used vacuum cleaners, large towels, dishes, knives, forks, and spoons, etc. We cannot take winter clothing items again until Fall. 6 Bits & Pieces Donate Bread Loaves on Communion Sunday, July 6. Please remember to bring a loaf of bread (plain or wheat, no specialty breads) to be placed in the basket at the altar. The bread loaves will be delivered to SHARE, the local food pantry, on Monday morning. Do You Have a Name Badge? Name badges can be printed up anytime by either signing up on the clipboard at the information booth in the foyer, or by ing Diane at djaquith2@gmail.com with your request. Please write out exactly how you would like your name printed and whether you prefer a pin rather than clip on. When the badge is ready, it will be added to one of the clotheslines located by the windows in the foyer. Help Our Youth Mission Team Clean out those old CDs, DVDs, video games - including Wii, Nintendo, XBox, etc and help the Youth Mission Trip! This does not include VCR tapes. And you need to have the original box that your old CD, DVD, or game came in. Then bring it to the church and put it in the bin under the coat rack. Liane Wright will take care of the rest. Those old dust collectors can bring a lot of money for our Youth Mission Trip. Thanks!
