2 Youth of Yesterday will meet for lunch at Meadowbrook Village on Wednesday, October 11. Coffee at 10:30 with lunch to follow. Dr. Bill Rowland will lead us in a devotional. Second graders from Calvin Christian School will sing for us. Cost for the lunch is $8. If you plan to attend, it is essential that you sign the sheet on the Information Counter in the foyer. The chef at Meadowbrook needs an accurate count for the dinner, so please sign up. Calvin Christian School will hold a special dedication event for the Heritage Center Chapel and Auditorium on Tuesday, October 10. The Heritage Center dedication is sure to be an event that fits beautifully with Calvin s 2017/18 school year theme, "cultivating community." What better way to celebrate and perform and glorify God together than to create a space where we can fit not only our students, but their extended families and our whole Calvin Community so we can really meet as one? We invite members of the Calvin Christian School community to attend this event and help us dedicate the building to the Lord. A short program will begin at 6:30 followed by a reception and tours. 3 Congratulations to James & Laura and Jason & Ardis as James and Jason were examined last Tuesday and Wednesday at Classis SW that was held this past week in Ontario, CA. They passed their candidacy exam in preparing to be Minister of the Word. We pray for God s blessing for these families as they follow God s call.

4 Morgan and Amy On Friday July 28, 2017 Amy and Morgan were united in marriage before God. The wedding and reception took place at Ashton Hill Farm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Amy's hometown. They are both currently seniors at Dordt College with Morgan studying business and Spanish, and Amy studying to be a science and math teacher. They plan on graduating in the spring. They are currently attending Sioux Center URC. For the home which marriage establishes the Lord ordained that the man should be the head of the wife even as Christ is the Head of the Church, and that he should protect her and provide for her in love, a love which, if exercised in the spirit and after the example of Christ, will be conducive to mutual happiness. Thus the liberty of both husband and wife is glorified by mutual loyalty to law, and a home so begun in the name of the Lord and regulated by His commandments becomes the very foundation of a Christian society and affords a foretaste of the eternal home.

5 Great Dane, Moose, made an appearance as the ring bearer! Rachel and Joel spent the weekend enjoying the coast before heading out to Hawaii for their honeymoon. Rachel and Joel are making their home in Illinois where Rachel is finishing up grad school at Lewis University in mental health counseling and Joel, along with his brother, work with specialized athletic training. Rachel and Joel thank the congregation for their prayers as they start their lives together and grow in their faith as husband and wife. Introducing Mr. & Mrs. On July 21, 2017, Rachel and Joel were joined in marriage by Rev. Derek Buikema, at the Twin Oaks Garden Estate in San Marcos. Pastor Derek was in intern at the EURC while Rachel was in high school and is now their pastor in Orland Park. Rachel and Joel met while attending a basketball game at Trinity Christian College, where both are alumni. The wedding day was a joyful occasion surrounded by friends and family, a third of whom flew in from the Midwest to share in the celebration! Rachel wore her mom s veil and the couple s

6 To Be a Host Family! Have you thought about being a Host Family? You can sign up for one Sunday to see if you would enjoy being a part of this program. Or if you have been a host family before but would like to only do one Sunday, you may. It is a wonderful program that is well received and appreciated by visitors. As you can read below, it is a time to spend with new members and or visitors that can provide to fruitful and we all enjoy eating. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13:2 When my husband and I first began attending this church, we were so blessed to be invited into the homes of other church members who were serving as host families. People loved on us, got to know us, and talked with us about the church, answering any questions that we had and encouraging us to pursue membership. It s easy to get lost in the shuffle and this small act was incredibly appreciated. We slowly got to know more people and looked forward to seeing familiar faces at church on Sundays. Now that we re a part of the church ourselves, we ve been given the opportunity to repay the hospitality that was given to us. A friend from our previous church, once told me that it doesn t matter what your house looks like or the food that you put on your table (even though we all like to make a good impression), but people will remember that you invited them into your home. Not only are we called to be hospitable, but being a host family is great way to get to know those that might be new in our church and reach outside of our regular pew and conversation circles. You probably eat lunch on Sundays anyways, why not get to know some of our fellow brothers and sisters at the same time?.kevin & Ashley We have many openings. And don t forget to save room for pie! we celebrate the 500 th Reformation! will be our speaker as anniversary of the After dinner, we ll have special (including glow-in-the-dark games) for 5 th grade and younger. They ll also receive a bag of treats at the end of the night. at the info booth so that we know how many are coming! You also can sign up to help with food or activities.

Bill Green, NKST Sponsorship Program, and OURC (Oceanside). The deacons ask that everyone support the General Fund with 5% of their income and other causes with an additional 5% of their income. Descriptions of Offerings CALVIN CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS TUITION AID This offering is used for tuition assistance for families from our church who are unable to pay full tuition at Calvin Christian Schools. The Deacons think that it is necessary to maintain at least two tuition aid offerings per month. BUILDING FUND is used to maintain the facilities and for any new building projects or improvements on the church properties. BENEVOLENT FUND This fund is administered by the deacons to those with financial needs in our congregation and in our community. REV. JUAN ARJONA (MNA) is a church planting work of the Presbyterian Church in America to reach the Hispanic community in Escondido, CA. Also known as Mission Vida Nueva. MNA stands for Mission to North America. TEPEYAC CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL was founded in 1993 with the purpose of providing a Reformed, Christ centered education in Tepeyac, Costa Rica. There is a need to finish the high school construction project. REV. ALLEN VANDER POL is an Associate Minister of 1st Chino URC and teaching theology for MINTS INTERNATIONAL SEMINARY in Asia. REV. ERIC PENNINGS -Missionary of Covenant Reformed Church of Toronto with Miami International Seminary (MINTS) Central America Regional Coordinator and run though Hispanic Christian Ministry (HCM). Reformed Mission Services Texas, Florida, and Caribbean Disaster Relief As many of you are aware there have been many communities affected by the recent hurricanes. RMS is partnering with like-minded NAPARC Churches and Denominations to assist those who have suffered loss from these disasters. There are many ways that you as churches and individuals can help. First and foremost, pray for the volunteers, leaders, coordinators, and those affected. Pray for wisdom, guidance, comfort and strength for the leaders and the individuals. Also pray for the opportunity for the Gospel to be presented to those who do not yet put their hope in God. You can give of your time and skills to assist these churches in their reconstruction efforts and outreach opportunities. If you are interested in this, please our Director at rob@rms.org and he will be happy to forward you the links to the volunteer registration websites in the area(s) you would like to serve. Fourthly, the Disaster Response Coordinator for the OPC is looking for Site Coordinators to handle the day to day operations of the relief efforts in the Houston area. Finally, there is a large need for one family in the Houston area. This father of a larger family, lost his means of transportation due to the flooding that occurred at his home and is using the family van for the time being leaving them without transportation. He is in need of a compact pickup truck with 4 doors or a late model sedan that he can drive to and from his work and church. If you would like to know more or are able to provide this need, also, contact our Director at rob@rms.org.
