2 Collect Lord, you have taught us that all our doings without love are nothing worth: send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whoever lives is counted dead before you. Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ s sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen A reading from the Old Testament Book of the prophet Jeremiah (20: 7-13) O Lord, you have enticed me, and I was enticed; you have overpowered me, and you have prevailed.i have become a laughingstock all day long; everyone mocks me. For whenever I speak, I must cry out, I must shout, Violence and destruction! For the word of the Lord has become for me a reproach and derision all day long. If I say, I will not mention him,or speak any more in his name, then within me there is something like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot. For I hear many whispering: Terror is all around! Denounce him! Let us denounce him! All my close friends are watching for me to stumble. Perhaps he can be enticed, and we can prevail against him, and take our revenge on him. But the Lord is with me like a dread warrior; therefore my persecutors will stumble, and they will not prevail. They will be greatly shamed, for they will not succeed.their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten. O Lord of hosts, you test the righteous, you see the heart and the mind; let me see your retribution upon them, for to you I have committed my cause. Sing to the Lord; praise the Lord! For he has delivered the life of the needy from the hands of evildoers. Psalm 69 (13-18) But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love, answer me. With your faithful help rescue me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. Do not let the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the Pit close its mouth over me. Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me. Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress make haste to answer me. Draw near to me, redeem me, set me free because of my enemies. A reading from St Paul s letter to the Romans (6: 1b-11) What then are we to say? Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. For whoever has died is freed from sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. The death he died, he died to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. A reading from the Gospel according to Matthew (10: 24-39) So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops. Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. And even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows. Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge before my Father in heaven; but whoever denies me before others, I also will deny before my Father in heaven. Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her motherin-law; and one s foes will be members of one s own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. Post-communion Loving Father, we thank you for feeding us at the supper of your Son: sustain us with your spirit that we may serve you here on earth until our joy is complete in heaven, and we share in the eternal banquet with Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

3 GOOD NEWS Laleston Village Fete Last Saturday s fete in Laleston has provisionally raised around 2,400 : once again an enormous thank you to everyone who helped in any way shape or form and also to those who came. It was a sunny time in every conceivable way. Diolch yn fawr and Da Iawn. Review of Sunday Services The results of the recent review of our Sunday Service Pattern are now available and full details should be with your news-sheet as a separate A4 sized insert. It is intended to introduce the new Sunday Service pattern from the first Sunday in August (August 6th). For the future most services will be at 1030, the only exceptions being an early said eucharist service (0830am) which moves between our churches, and the 5th Sunday shared service (when this occurs) which will be at Thank you to all who contributed to this review and especially to the Benefice Leadership Team for all their hard work and engagement. 4 Dates for Diaries / News Visit to the Holy Land in the Autumn of 2018 Leafelts are now available at the back of church for anyone wishing to know more about this trip which will run from 25th September to 4th October Led by Rev d Chris Burr, the trip will be based in Jerusalem and Galilee and will cost 1945 per person based on two people sharing and including flights, transfers and all but one excursion. Full details (including any additional costs for insurance etc) are available on the leaflets. A non-refundable deposit of 200 is required by early July if you wish to secure a place Cake sale at All Saints, Pen-y-Fai Following the 10am service next Sunday (2 nd July) at All Saints, Pen-y-Fai, there will be a cake sale in the Community Room. There is - of course never a bad time for cake, so whilst help and contributions to the sale are always needed, so too are willing and able participants!! Anyone for Tea? For those of us with a hankering for the stuff of afternoon teas, we have two afternoon tea events coming up on consecutive days at the end of July. On Tuesday July 25th, Jenny and David Morgan are hosting an afternoon tea event at their home (tickets are available from Jenny at 5 each), and the following day Pat Gregory is co-ordinating an Afternoon Tea at the Great house in Laleston : for further information on the 2 nd event please contact Pat or Fr Anthony (who ll put you in touch with Pat) News Mothers' Union The annual MU Summer Lunch will be in The Grove on Tuesday 11th July. Cars will leave St. David's at 11.45am and members are reminded to give their names to Ann Anthony if they intend going. Faith in Action collection boxes Thank you to those who have contributed to this scheme over several years now. We have, however, recently received word that the charity is no longer receiving funds. Could anyone who presently has one of these clear, perspex red boxes, please return them to St David s Church immediately. Midweek communion Don t forget that each Wednesday morning at 0930am in St David s Church, Laleston we share midweek communion (and refreshments afterwards). This is not just a St David s service but open to all members of congregations from all three churches. We look forward to welcoming one and all. The Grenfell Rainbow
