2 Our Worship services are led by very talented people and are a wonderful time of drawing near to God. We offer a wide range of services across the parish and feel it is a sign of depth and maturity for the parish. Bacon & Egg Burgers afterwards. Wednesday Morning Service - 10:00am St John s has a traditional 7:00am service with hymns accompanied by pipe organ. Music at the 9:00am service is more contemporary, and is accompanied by keyboard, guitar and other instruments such as drums, when congregational members are available to play. 3 Our Story so Far 1881 All Saints Church, Yandina was built as a community church and was used by various denominations for many years St. Margaret s Church, Woombye was dedicated, and services were held about once a month The First Church of England services in Nambour were held at the School of the Arts, and later at the Court House St. John the Baptist Church was dedicated in the growing district of Nambour 1959 A congregation of about 800 celebrated the dedication of the new War Memorial Church of St. John the Baptist on Currie St. REGION AND DEMOGRAPHICS Nambour was established in 1870 and is a town and locality in South East Queensland, Australia, 101 kilometres (63 mi) north of the state capital, Brisbane. The town lies in the subtropical hinterland of the Sunshine Coast at the foot of the Blackall Range and has a population of 11,187 (2016 census). It was the administrative centre and capital of the Maroochy Shire and is now the administrative centre of the Sunshine Coast Region. The greater Nambour region includes surrounding suburbs such as Burnside, Coes Creek, and Perwillowen, and has an estimated population of 15,550. State electorate(s) Nicklin. 4 MINISTRY TEAM Honorary Priests Fr Phillip Robinson, a retired priest who was previously Rector of Nambour over a decade ago, happily serves the people of Nambour and in Nambour Anglican Church. Fr Phillip regularly leads the St Margaret s Woombye Sunday services. He is a man who loves God and is passionately energized to continue serving in his retirement and we are blessed by his passion. Deacon Rev Winston Svenson serves at the 7:00am service and has preached on an occasional basis at this service. He is also our Franciscan contact. Winston is a very prayerful person and passionate about helping those in need. He has taught in New Guinea and China. Associate Lay Minister Joost Nennie was born in The Netherlands and at the age of 18 moved to New York where he worked with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) for 12 years training and equipping missionaries. In 2014 Joost s family moved to Australia where he completed a School of Biblical Studies and joined Nambour Anglican church as the youth director. He currently runs the youth groups and teaches the bible in YWAM schools. He also works in digital advertising. Roles Undertaken by Laity in worship Nambour Anglican Parish acknowledges the ministry of all members of our congregation. Further, it affirms and encourages lay involvement in worship. The diversity of the involvement is evidenced by the following examples: A team of Liturgical Assistants Scripture readers Responsibility for organising some Parish rosters. Shared responsibility for preparation for worship. The Place of the Church in the community: Ecumenical relationships. Ecumenical relationships are mutually cordial through the Ministers Fraternal and other community services which are rotated through the various churches in Nambour.

5 MINISTRIES Youth Ministry From September 2015 to 2018 we hired two youth workers to develop our youth ministry for grades Every Friday our youth groups Get Real (Gr 5-7) and Raw (Gr 8-12) meet at the church for games, devotions and a BBQ. Between kids on average attended. During this time our youth band played once a month in the 9am family service and the youth leaders also shared the message. During the school holidays camping trips, holiday fun days, beach days and movie nights were organised. Multiple times a year we hosted fundraisers for the youth group through sausage sizzles, a carwash and trivia & bingo nights. During this time the first Youth Camp was held first youth camp with 17 young people going away for 3 nights at Dunethin Rock Scout Camp Yandina. Kids Club In the last few years our Friday afternoon Kids Club has been growing, averaging between kids each week. We provide afternoon tea, a lesson, a song, craft and games and a BBQ. Most of these children (including those going to our youth ministry) are picked up from Nambour Christian College by bus. Every year at Christmas the youth and Kid's Club prepare a Christmas play which is performed at a special service.

6 Local Outreach 2015 and 2016 backpacks of school supplies were distributed to local school students Overflow Project: The project involved making hampers to bless local businesses who were struggling. Friday Night Feed Unfortunately, most communities today have people who are homeless, or economically or mentally challenged. Nambour community is no exception to that situation. Part of the Nambour Anglican Church s outreach program to the community for the last 5 years has been to offer burgers, drinks and fruit to those people in our community. This ministry had been occurring in Nambour through various churches for many years. Our volunteers come from various churches as well as Grade 9 students from Matthew Flinders Anglican College. On average we have 30 plus people. We start our evening with grace. Our volunteers spend time talking and praying for our guests and there is a good relationship between volunteers and our guests. We evaluate our success when someone doesn t come because they have accommodation or have gained a job, through our students comments to their parents, to our guests gratitude and by the fact that most of our volunteers have been faithfully coming for years. Nursing homes The parish continues to provide spiritual and pastoral support to the nursing homes in our area. Thank you to the team who so diligently care for those living in care. Court house Coffee On the first and fourth Monday of the month our volunteers take our portable coffee machine down to the Nambour Courthouse to serve free tea and coffee to those waiting in line for court. This has become a valuable ministry where people who are experiencing some of the hardest times in their life are surprised that someone will care for them. Hospital Visiting The volunteer parish pastoral care worker regularly visits the sick in the local hospital and shares communion in the homes of parishioners who are unable to attend church. Pastoral Care Pastoral care is provided across the parish by a dedicated Lay team. Palmwoods School Breakfast Nambour Anglican Parish have partnered with Palmwoods Anglican Parish to support Chaplain Jenny Schleusener in her breakfast program on a Tuesday morning. This is an opportunity to not only feed the children but also to show love and care to them.

7 Ladies Guild The Ladies Guild are a group of women who serve the church in a mighty way through holding events such as the Church Capers Dinner to fundraise for projects in the church. They meet monthly and have a great vision to serve however they can to support and grow the church and the church family. Mighty To Save Mission On the first Sunday bi- monthly, we have Mighty to Save Sunday! Mighty to Save Sunday is an opportunity to introduce a new mission that the church is supporting for the next month and encourage parishioners to believe that God is mighty to save the people or the vision that the organization is serving. This helps us to educate the congregation about many important issues throughout the world. This gives an opportunity for people to support the different organisations that ignite passion in their hearts and to have guest speakers come and speak to us and allow us to pray for them. Women s High Tea Our Women s High Tea is held on the first Saturday of every month between 3:30pm 5:00pm at St. John s Hall, 176 Currie St. Nambour. We gather together in the church hall as women in fellowship and have some delicious food and hear from a different speaker every month. These High Teas provide the opportunity for women to support and encourage each other, and even try each other s delicious baking that they contribute! Guest speakers have included women from the parish, women missionaries we support, and women from other churches who have inspiring stories. We welcome any women (and little women) of any age to come and share with us in these lovely afternoons. Wednesday Noon Prayer Every Wednesday, a dedicated group of people meet in the church from 12:00-12:30PM to pray together for the church, the community, for chaplaincy, for the schools, and for the town. We have had wonderful testimonies of how God has answered the prayers that have been uplifted in this meeting and we encourage anyone who has a heart for Nambour and a heart for God to come along and join in. Worship Team The Worship Team lead worship on a Sunday morning in the 9am service. We currently have a team of musicians and singers which has grown and matured over the last nine years. It is our vision for this ministry to continue to grow and develop. Meals Outreach The Church keeps a stock of frozen meals, made by our parishioners, to support families during illness or family crisis. Anglican Men s Fellowship and Breakfast The men s ministry is held on the first Saturday of the month with breakfast and occasional guest speaker. All men are warming invited to attend and share a meal and fellowship

8 Discipleship Mothers Union Mothers Union is well established in the parish. Lenten Study Groups Parishioners are encouraged to join a Lenten Study Group Alpha - The parish supports and uses Alpha which has been led by the Youth Pastor. This course saw new people asking questions and getting to know Jesus with greater understanding. These courses are a great blessing to the parish and Joost does a great job running these. Bible 101 In 2017 the Parish ran a six-week course on how to study the Bible. Hebrew Roots Hebrew Roots teaching mornings were held on one Saturday a month as an opportunity to provide in depth teaching on the books of the bible from within their cultural and historical context. Between 30 and 50 people attended regularly. Preaching Preparation for Admission to Communion Children who desire to be admitted to Communion are prepared. Marriage Preparation Couples coming for marriage are interviewed and prepared by the priest. Parish Library The parish Library provides suitable books for borrowing that cover a wide range of topics. Fellowship The church holds various fellowship activities which include Popover dinners, Trivia Nights, and Church Capers. Other Activities held periodically during Camp Oven dinners Outdoor Carols at Yandina Children Singing Christmas Carols at Nursing Homes Popover dinners in the homes of congregation members for fellowship. 9 Parish Administration The day to day management of the Parish is conducted by the Parish Priest and Wardens. Parish Council meets monthly and there is an Executive Team comprising Wardens, Treasurer and Parish Priest who meet for the purpose of expediting decisions. The Parish Office is administered by a skilled team of lay people. Parishioners are kept informed through the weekly pew bulletin and a Parish magazine called The Font, which is published three times per year. 11 FINANCIAL STATISTICS Stewardship and Financial Financial contributions are made through envelopes, Direct Debit, ANFIN direct giving and loose cash in the collection plate. Financial Position Summary Our income is derived from a number of sources. These have been consistent over the past two years. The figures quoted are from our 2017 financials. Our Income from open plate and electronic and planned giving offerings was $141,752. Rental income from Anglicare office, Hall rental and rectory total $80,443. Other income includes fund raisers, Parish Op shop and business activities which total $87,517. This gave the Parish a total income of $309,711. Our outgoings which include wages, vehicle expenses, office expenses and maintenance left us with a net profit of $20,537. We are debt free. Our balances in our combined bank accounts was $78,344. 12 The Church Precinct and Parish Assets St John s Anglican Church St John s Anglican Church is the main church of the parish and is located in Currie Street Nambour, adjacent to the Police Station and across the road from St Joseph s Catholic Church and Primary School. St John s seats approximately 250 worshippers. The Church features: Air-conditioning and fans A well-equipped sound system and microphones. Vestry, incorporating storage facilities and vestment hanging space. A flower vestry with cupboards and workspace which also houses the music resources. Chapel which seats approximately and is used for weekday services and other small services such as the Maundy Thursday night vigil. Data Projector. Organ, which is used for the 7:00am Sunday morning services. Keyboard, drums and music stands, which are used for the 9:00am Sunday services and Youth services. The Parish Hall. The Parish Hall is a Memorial Hall. In the last five years it has been recarpeted, air conditioning has been installed and the celling renewed. A new oven and commercial dishwasher have been installed in the kitchen. The hall is used on Sundays for Morning Tea after services and Sunday school as well as other activities such as the monthly Women s High Tea. Weight Watchers hire the hall on a regular basis. The hall is also hired on an occasional basis to other organisations. The Rectory The Rectory is a single-story brick veneer building adjacent to the St John s Church and Hall. It consists of three bedrooms, study, family room, ensuite and bathroom. There is also a patio area at the back of the house and a large single garage is located on the left side, facing the house. St Johns Anglican Church Car Park A proportionate number of car parking spaces, at the rear of St Johns church and hall, are made available to the nearby Medical centre and Anglicare under a business rental agreement. Anglicare Anglicare Southern Queensland has a branch located on the premises of St Johns, under a business lease agreement.

13 St Margaret s Woombye St Margaret s Church Woombye is part of the Nambour diocese. Services are held fortnightly led by retired priest Father Philip Robinson. There are around 30 regular attendees to these services. St Margaret s recently celebrated its 120th birthday with the consecration of a new stained-glass window. St Margaret s is served by a very active group of enthusiastic parishioners who are involved in the local community through support for the chaplaincy program and historical society. They hold regular fund raisers and at present have several building projects happening. Parish Op Shop The Parish Op Shop has become a hub in the community and a successful tool to meet people in the community. The Op Shop has successfully injected funds into the parish over a number of years. The OP shop is located at the back of St Margaret s Church in the main centre of Woombye. All Saints Yandina All Saints is the oldest church building on the Sunshine Coast. Monthly services were held on Sunday evenings after the morning services ceased. It is the intention of the parish to commence services again. At the present time the church building is loaned to the Catholic Church for their monthly service. During the week the building is rented to a local woman for art classes. To advance our parish forward we believe we need a Parish Priest who: Is a person of prayer Possesses good management, counselling, communication and interpersonal skills.
