PARISH AIMS To be a loving, Christ-like community To be people of prayer To reflect the love of Christ in our local communities To provide joyful, uplifting worship and fellowship To grow in faith and love, and in numbers To support people in their discipleship and spiritual growth To obey Christ s teachings by inviting new disciples to join us in the body of Christ To encourage and empower parishioners to find and fulfil their place in the church To encourage families, children and young people to grow in the faith To encourage and support parishioners to stay involved in parish activities and to ensure that they have a chance to grow in faith To encourage cheerful giving To be responsible stewards of the resources entrusted to us, including by means of wise administration A SNAPSHOT OF OUR PARISH The Rosewood Parish has four established centres: St Luke s Rosewood, All Saints Marburg, St James Lowood, St Anne s Hiddenvale. Each centre has regular worship services as outlined below. On a fifth Sunday of the month, the parish combines for a single service. The parish was established 110 years ago, in November All Saints Marburg recently celebrated its 125 th anniversary. The parish is within easy commuting distance of the city of Ipswich and Brisbane with train, bus and road services being continually upgraded. The Rosewood Parish is located in an area of south-east Queensland which is rapidly growing in population. Rosewood, Walloon, Fernvale, Lowood and Marburg in particular are experiencing high population growth. The current combined population of 10,000 is expected to double in the next 10 years. This presents a great opportunity for the parish to grow if connections and relationships can be established. The parish is also within the core student catchment area of the nearby West Moreton Anglican College. Regular communications to parishioners are through the weekly pewsheet which is distributed at all services as well as being sent out electronically. There are also Facebook pages for each of the four centres. A new parish website has recently been published and is being further developed.

3 3 WHAT WE SEEK IN A PARISH PRIEST Has a deep and meaningful love of God and God s people A prayerful and spirit-filled person An effective steward of their gifts and time to maintain a healthy balance of self, family and people A servant leader A person who will seek and listen to counsel from the people An effective liturgist, preacher and teacher Comfortable with a range of spiritualties and worship styles A person who sees the importance of pastoral care, and will pray for and support the pastoral carers of the parish A person who will train, equip and nourish members of the parish to grow spiritually and in numbers A person who can discern and put to use the various gifts possessed by congregation members Ability to delegate tasks Has a willingness to help the parish to engage with the expanding housing developments in the parish Has a willingness to assist the parish to engage with and establish a strong relationship with West Moreton Anglican College Has a keenness to work with parishioners to build stronger relationships with the wider communities Familiarity with Natural Church Development or similar tools to help grow and monitor the health of the parish WHAT THE PARISH WILL OFFER THE PRIEST The current position is being offered at 4/6 full time position (this may be negotiable) Stipend, superannuation, house or housing allowance, car and leave entitlements are offered as stated in the Diocesan Canon The Priest will be actively supported by the parish community, and will be able to meet regularly with both the Wardens group and Parish Council. Volunteers are willing to continue working on administrative matters to enable the Priest to concentrate on pastoral care and liturgical events. It is also the location of the parish office. 6 6 Parish Giving The parish tithes from the annual fundraising income, selecting four beneficiaries each year. 7 7 FINANCES Parish Material Assets Each of the 4 centres has a church of traditional weatherboard construction, and three also have halls which are built of timber. All buildings are currently in good repair and have been painted within the past 4 years. The parish office is air conditioned and includes a desktop computer, two printers and a photocopier A lock-up shed in Rosewood stores a ride-on mower and other church property such as gazebos and market goods The parish s trailer is stored at a private residence The rectory is a 4 bedroom brick residence located in Rosewood. It is currently rented. The parish car is a Honda Civic and is 3 years old. Marburg Anglican Church Cemetery The Cemetery is situated on Seminary Road, and was originally part of the Marburg Church. (The church was relocated in 1977 due to the upgrade of the Warrego Highway.) The cemetery is one of the earliest private Anglican cemeteries in the State and dates back to the 1870s. The Cemetery is still active, with several burials taking place each year. Plots are still being sold. The Cemetery is overseen by the Marburg Anglican Church Cemetery Committee and the Sexton.

8 8 GEOGRAPHY AND COMMUNITY The parish extends from Mt Walker in the south 40 kms to Lowood and Fernvale in the north and from Willowbank in the east 30 kms to Grandchester in the west. All of this area is serviced by sealed roads making it a fairly easy drive between centres. 9 9 Rosewood and Lowood are the two largest towns in the parish and offer a variety of shops and services. Supermarkets are located in Rosewood, Fernvale, Lowood and Walloon. The electric suburban passenger rail service runs from Rosewood to the city of Brisbane, a journey of about 90 minutes duration, via Ipswich (a 20 minute trip). Buses run from Toowoomba to Rosewood, and there are bus services from Lowood and Fernvale to Ipswich. Police, Ambulance and Fire stations are based in Rosewood and Lowood. Rural Fire Brigade and State Emergency Service branches are located in many of the towns throughout the parish. There are various health care facilities (including doctors, dentists, optometrists and pathology) in Marburg, Fernvale, Lowood, Rosewood and Walloon. Ipswich General Hospital is the closest tertiary hospital, with smaller rural hospitals in Gatton, Boonah, Esk and Laidley. There are also a number of vets in the area. Rosewood and Lowood each have High and Primary schools. West Moreton Anglican College (1700 students) is located in the Parish and there are more than 12 other primary schools in the parish. University campuses are located in Ipswich and Gatton. Major employment in the area is found in the Air Force base in Amberley, coal mining and agriculture. Rosewood Parish offers a range of activities that would be expected in any urban area including water sports at the nearby dams, gyms and fitness centres, historic railways, rail trails and libraries.
