As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." All communicant members of Immanuel and of our sister congregations in the Church of the Lutheran Confession are welcome at the Lord s Table. If there are visitors present who wish to commune with us in the future, you are invited to speak with Pastor after the service. Please register for Communion at either binder in the front or rear of church. Members who have difficulty at the kneeling rail may sit in the front pew on either side. The pastors will bring communion to you. Communicants sitting in the balcony should come down to the narthex for direction to the table. If you desire the bread in your hand, simply extend your hand to the Pastor as he approaches you with the bread. Refreshments and treats will follow the program. Sophomore 5k Race Car Run! Get in gear to run the 5 th Annual Sophomore 5k Fun Run/Walk! The event will be held on Saturday, April 28 at 9:05am at Riverfront and Sibley Parks. This year, there will also be a Kids K for the young ones! 10 Black Hills Family Bible Camp Camping in the beauty of the Black Hills, studies in the beauty of God's Word. All ages are welcome, children will need to be accompanied by a chaperon or family. 11 Contributions to Immanuel pa rt si x The Finance Board of Immanuel is looking at the process of receiving offerings. We intend this to be a discussion with questions and answers going back and forth. Please direct responses to David Lueck at financial.secretary@immanuelmankato.org or in person. In the previous article, we had an overview of Immanuel s financial situation. The final numbers were the same except that the year-end positive balance was a little less positive. Our actual giving in 2017 was 5% less than We had about $48,000 less in salaries which we did not spend because we had only one pastor and less hourly staff time than in We, as a congregation in annual meetings, had serious financial questions to discuss and decisions to make. The budget for 2018 was approved with a 3% raise in tuition and a 3% salary raise. Replacement of a heating/ cooling unit on the gymnasium/classroom will be replaced with funds coming from reserve funds. No reserve funds were transferred to the budget (nor were they in 2016). The budget then needs a 13½% increase in our giving, our financial contributions to Immanuel s 2018 needs. We certainly ask, How will this be accomplished? This effort needs prayer, wisdom, cooperation, commitment and participation by all our members to carry on the work our God has put around us. The word participation was added to the last sentence of article #5. I had the chance to talk with the 7-12 grade students in classes recently. We discussed the steps of growing up and, in particular, about being a participating member of church. Perhaps the young members of our church will get jobs and begin or increase contributing money to our church and school work. I think we all need to review our participation in church (and school). When short a pastor last year, people stepped up to help in many areas to help get things done. Maybe this can continue. For example we will need someone to clean the classroom floors this summer (training provided). Can someone do that work and save the cost of contracting it out? Also, individual deacons are stepping up to help with pastoral work. We will happily see a second pastor participating in our church life which will mean more contact with our members. Maybe this will lead to more participation of members in attendance, volunteering and contributions to our financial needs. 10
