1 July 2018 Shipwrecked... JESUS RESCUES! Christine Eid, Director of Children s Ministries HAVE YOU EVER FELT LONELY, WORRIED, STRUGGLING WITH LIFE, DONE SOMETHING WRONG, OR FELT HOPELESS? ALL OF THESE WERE THE FOCUS AND EMOTIONS THAT WERE TALKED ABOUT THE WEEK OF JUNE AT SHIPWRECKED!, THIS YEAR S VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL. AND IN EACH SITUATION WE TALKED ABOUT, WE WERE REMINDED THAT JESUS RESCUES! It was a wonderful week with over 160 kids and over 80 volunteers joining together in song, Bible study and a variety of activities all giving praise and glory to God. Each day we also talked about how we saw God in our lives around us we call these God Sightings. How have you seen God today? Take time to really think about it, and give thanks for all He has done. One of the best God Sightings during the week was the wonderful support for this year s mission project for Haiti. Partnering with World Vision, our mission dollars will go to buy drought resistant seed for people in Haiti. Danny Pahl, who went on a mission trip to Haiti last year, shared about his experience and the impact our offerings will make to the people there. At the time of this writing, we have received $472 dollars! That will feed 47 individuals for a year, and will help families become self-sufficient. This truly is a time to praise God! Our pictures from the week on pages 6 and 7 give a glimpse of what we did. Thanks to everyone who supported our ministry to the children of Cross View and the community through their time, sharing talents and donations. It was a blessing!

2 PAGE 2 Music Camp Bugz! July We are so excited to again perform the mini-musical, Bugz! through this year s music camp, July It s a fun musical hearing from the bugs in the meadow as they prepare for a picnic. During the week, students will join us in the morning, 9 AM to 12 noon, to learn and prepare all the music, props and costumes. A performance of the musical will be on Friday, July 20 at 11:30 AM. Come see the fruits of the students hard work! (Please note the musical for the week has been changed, as Camp Willomocky is no longer being published.) EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER June Brings VBS and Bike Parade to the ECC We all enjoyed the Shipwrecked Vacation Bible School last week. It was a great time of Bible Stories, crafts, songs, snacks and games. We had 65 Preschoolers and 40 School Age children from the Early Childhood Center who participated during the week. We learned how Jesus is our rescue during hard times in life. Thank you to the 15 Early Childhood Staff and the 16 volunteers who worked with the children during the week and made it all possible. We had our annual Bike Parade on June 29 to celebrate the 4th of July holiday. All the children brought their bikes and decorated them. The parents arrived in the afternoon and the children showcased their bikes and their riding skills around the church parking lot. It is a great time for the staff and families. We finish the festivities with a yummy popsicle! Close the Gap Thank you to members and friends who updated their capital campaign Close the Gap pledge. It s not too late to return your Close the Gap pledge cards to the church office. Close the Gap pledges allow the Building Steering Committee and Church Council to move forward with building plans. Contribution options include: Make an initial pledge Increase your original pledge amount Extend your three year pledge to a fourth year If you are hesitant to make a pledge, consider a donation by September 1. Cross View 4.0 Building for Generations contribution envelopes and Simply Giving enrollment/authorization forms are available in the Connection Center if you are ready to make your first contribution. Envelope Giving: Write 4.0 in the check memo area. Write your name and regular offering envelope number on the outside of the Cross View 4.0 Building For Generations envelope. Return your envelope in the offering plate or to the church office. Simply Giving Automated Giving: Simply Giving is a convenient, secure ACH platform administered by Thrivent Financial and Vanco Services. You select the frequency and amount of your donation. New enrollees: Complete an enrollment form and return it to the church office. Already enrolled: To add your capital campaign donation to your regularly scheduled giving, pick up an authorization form, update your donation information and return it to the church office. Thank you for your ongoing generosity!

3 WOMEN S MINISTRIES Book Club & New Dinner Day WOMEN S BOOK CLUB This month we will be celebrating summer with a first a Book Club picnic! We will meet at the Shorewood Yacht clubhouse on Monday, July 16, 12:00 Noon. Carla Schumacher has chosen Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck for us to read and discuss. New members are always welcome. Feel free to contact Carla if you have any questions. SENIOR ADULTS Senior Adults in Service PAGE 3 God provided a beautiful rain on the morning of June 6. It created perfect conditions for 13 members who all worked hard to eliminate several wheel-barrows full of weeds around our church grounds. The shrubs around the ECC were also trimmed. After a morning of very dedicated hard work, hungry people gathered and were refreshed by a delicious potluck luncheon. As you come to worship, take time to appreciate the beautiful landscaped areas around our church home. WOMEN S DINNER TUESDAY, JULY 26 Women s dinner is trying out a new meeting time! Come enjoy dinner and fellowship with other Cross View women at Jimmy s in Minnetonka (11000 Red Circle Drive) on July 26 at 7:00 PM. Jimmy s Kitchen and Bar has an expansive menu to fit any taste. There is a small outdoor seating area if it isn t too hot out. More information can be found at Sign up in the Connections Center. For more information, contact Quynn Iske at or qunika@msn.com or Christine Eid. InC* to Saints Game 25 members and guests enjoyed a night at the St. Paul Saints Ball Park on June 24. In good Lutheran tradition, they excelled at the singing of Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the 7th inning stretch. * InC is a service and social group of members and friends around the ages of Twelve21 Are you in college? Do you have a student who is in college? Are you just out of college? Do you have family members who have recently graduated from college? Do you know anyone who would fit the young adult category? If so, we are hosting a bi-monthly bible study that meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. It is an opportunity to meet with Young Adults in a similar stage to talk about how faith and life converge. We are working through The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. If you have any questions or anyone you would like invited to this event please talk to Lauren Kimball, Lauren Carter, Brooke Stauffer, or Jonathan Zellar.

4 PAGE 4 OUTREACH AND MISSIONS Cheyenne River & VEAP Donations, POBLO, and Missionary Updates CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS: CHANGE A FAMILY S LIFE A Cross View mission team WANTED: New or gently used items is working this summer with FOR: Mission to Cheyenne River in SD the Sacred Heart Center on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, to provide critical items to people in need. Please donate NEW or GENTLY USED items by Wednesday, July 11. Drop items in the large box across from the Connection Center in the church lobby. Items needed: CLOTHING all sizes for all seasons SHOES all sizes, including sandals, boots, slippers and heels BEDDING & SHEETS BATH ITEMS & TOWELS GARDEN ITEMS HOUSEHOLD DÉCOR wall hangings, frames & curtains HOUSEWARES pots & pans, dishes, and utensils SMALL APPLIANCES PURSES, BAGS & WALLETS BEAUTY & PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS SEASONAL ITEMS BOOKS, MUSIC CDs & Movie DVDs The mission team of Susan, Gordon, and Caroline Charles, and John and Luke Daenzer, will collect items, pack them into a trailer and bring them to donate to people in need on the Cheyenne River Reservation during our mission trip in mid-july. Questions? Contact John Daenzer (john.daenzer@gmail.com or ). Thank you! VEAP BACK TO SCHOOL PROGRAM Your contributions of school supplies in the past have made it possible for thousands of children of low income families to start the school year positioned for success. Thank you for making that possible. Over the past year, VEAP has worked with leadership and staff in our local school districts to understand what the classroom teachers need most to support students. We learned teachers need access to an inventory of school supplies all year long to keep students prepared to learn. However, conducting school supply drives and collecting donations is not something the schools and teachers are equipped to do. To best meet the needs of families, students and teachers, this summer VEAP will collect and sort school supplies and then distribute those supplies to the schools. Teachers know many of the students who may need help filling a backpack. During the preschool Meet & Greets and Orientations, they can make sure every student has the supplies they need to be ready for the first day of school, and then continue to help during the rest of the year. Cross View s collection of school supplies to support this VEAP program is scheduled for July The most needed supplies have changed significantly from previous years, and are: Back Packs Earbuds USB Thumb Drives Calculators Your donations of the above mentioned items in addition to the usual pencils, pens and notebooks will help students succeed. Cash donations are always welcome, but should be made early to allow VEAP sufficient time to do the necessary shopping. Checks may be placed in the collection plate made out to Cross View with VEAP Back to School on the memo line. CELEBRATIONS & POBLO In May we celebrated Mother s Day and in June we celebrated Father s Day at the Bloomington International Friendship Center (IFC). Lutherans from several local churches enjoyed the food and fellowship with international families and volunteers. It was incredible to see how everyone got along, laughed, and enjoyed fellowship as we celebrated the parents we have and our Heavenly Father. With everyone there it was a subtle reminder of a first century Christian fellowship we can read in Acts 2:42-47, interestingly around the time of Pentecost. These two events were great chances for potential volunteers and students to partake in this relationship-building outreach that confidently affects not only each person s vitality, but also the future of Christendom. If you did not make it, you really missed something big! We hope you can make it next time! (Interested in POBLO and our IFC ministry? 5 Dear friends at Cross View Lutheran Church, Greetings in the Name of Jesus, who lives for us and leads us to share his wonderful love in all we do and say! Thank you for your support of our work with Alaska Mission for Christ. We are blessed by your generosity and also very much appreciate your prayers. We know that God hears and answers those prayers, so the time you spend praying for us is a powerful treasure. The busy summer season of multiplied ministry with volunteer teams is upon us already. We are blessed again this year to partner with Christ Lutheran Church in Milford, Michigan and provide an amazing Vacation Bible School week June for children in Copper Center and the surrounding areas. Several team members from Michigan return year after year and have formed deep friendships with kids in our community. Each year we see more and more of these kids baptized and returning to church on Sundays. Two kids brought their dad along this spring. We never know what God s plans are. Later this summer, we will have VBS programs in Mentasta, Chitina, and Cordova. We will have an Art Camp in Gakona, a Basketball Camp in Kenny Lake, and two work teams helping out in our community. That is just in our community. AMC also has VBS, sports camps, and work teams in other communities throughout the State. Please pray with us for all those involved in AMC programs this summer. Thank you for praying for us and our work with Alaska Mission for Christ. Jesus is with you. -Todd and Kim Roeske, Kalae, Karis, and Amani PAGE 5 CV YOUTH MINISTRY Serving in Rochester and West Virginia June our junior high youth participated in the Rochester Servant Event for a second year in a row. This year we took 22 youth and 4 adults. The pictures below tell just a few of the things we did. July 6-15 the senior high youth will be on a mission trip. Please keep them in your prayers as they go to serve the town of Logan, WV.. Dear Cross View Lutheran Church, Greetings! I pray that this letter finds you well. I am simply writing to say thank you so much for your support my mission to reach Muslims in Ethiopia with the good news of the Gospel. I received your donation to our ministry here; what a blessing. The Lord has been so faithful! He is doing wonderful things, and I know that He will continue to be faithful to finish the good work He has started in me. I am excited about the opportunity to serve and to minister to Muslims in Ethiopia, and I ask you to join me in ministry. I am always seeking your support and prayers for God s mission here. If you would like to send any personal donations, please send the check or money order payable to EBENEZER ABUNDANT LIFE INTERNATIONAL MINISTRY. An accounting of all funds will be available. I thank you in advance for all your prayers and your financial support. May God bless you richly! -Pastor Gemedo Adema We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God s people.
