1 June 2017 Christmas Redeemed! IMAGINE FOR A MOMENT CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN JUNE. THAT SEEMS A LITTLE STRANGE, DOESN T IT? TAKE IT ONE STEP FURTHER. IMAGINE CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN JUNE IN THE HEAT OF AN AFRICAN SUMMER. THAT S EVEN MORE CHALLENGING TO ENVISION. Nevertheless, that is exactly what is happening at the Tenwek Hospital and Dental Clinic in Bomet, Kenya right now. They are celebrating the true spirit, joy, and generosity of Christmas through you His people as they unwrap, install, and get ready to use the dental equipment that we purchased and shipped to them almost two years ago. In fall of 2015, a challege was put before the congregation. The challenge was Change up Christmas to Change Lives. We covenanted with one another to give up some of the luxuries we normally enjoy at Christmas to put the monies toward making a difference in the lives of others. Entitled Redeeming Christmas, our goal was to furnish as much equipment as possible for the newly constructed by Steve Wheeler Dental clinic at Tenwek Hospital, designed by our own member-missionarydentist, Tim Clavin. None of us could have anticipated the outpouring of love that would come from our small congregation. What was even more amazing was that outside of one sizable gift with matching funds, the majority of the gifts that were donated were spread across the congregation. Children, youth, and people of all ages got involved. Between November 29 and December 20 we focused on Redeeming Christmas. On Sunday, December 13,2015 we had a very special celebration and all of our offerings went to the Redeeming Christmas project. Our congregation raised $114, ! It was the largest single mission offering ever taken in the history of our congregation. It allowed us to virtually furnish the entire dental clinic. On May 21, 2016, all of the equipment was crated up by members of Cross View at the Patterson Dental facility in Eagan. From there, our equipment was shipped to World Gospel Mission in Marion Indian. It was placed into a large shipping container. Unfortunately, Kenyan customs and governmental red-tape kept the shipment stalled in Marion for months on end as we waited for clearance from the Kenyan authorities. On January 30, 2017, we received communication that our container would finally receive a Certificate of Conformity from the Kenyan Government. Space on a ship was arranged. The container was shipped to the port and loaded on the ship. At long last, the dental equipment purchased by the love gift of Cross View began its journey across the ocean. On April 24, at 6:12 AM we received news from World Gospel Mission that our container had safely arrived in Nairobi. By May 7, we were receiving our first videos of the equipment at Tenwek Hospital and Dental Clinic in Bomet, Kenya. It took a long time and a lot of prayers for this project to come to completion, but all of the equipment made it to the clinic! None of the equipment was stolen or lost. This was no small feat when one considers the kind of equipment that we shipped into a third world nation on the Continued on page 2.

2 PAGE 2 Continued from front cover. African continent. A vision to Change up Christmas to Change Lives is now a reality. The equipment that is being installed in this clinic will change and, in many cases, save lives for decades to come. To God be all the glory! That being said, there are several people that need to be thanked. First, thank you for your rich generosity that made this project a resounding success. Everyone at Cross View played an important role in the success of this project which made it an especially memorable experience for all. Many thanks to Dr. Tim Clavin who oversaw the entire project, faithfully worked with contacts near and far to ensure its completion, managed the budget, worked with Patterson Dental to design the clinic and purchase the equipment, managed the shipping of the equipment, and much more Tim, you are our hero! Many thanks to Patterson Dental who sold us the equipment at or (in some cases) below cost, donated the design of the clinic, housed the equipment prior to shipping, and generally went over and above the call of duty. Thanks to World Gospel Mission who partnered with us to ship the container overseas. Thanks to Dr. Roberts, Dr. Chupp, Dean Cowles and many others that helped along the way. As a congregation, we can truly celebrate that Christmas was redeemed in more than one way in 2015 and that the blessings will continue to multiply in the years to come in the lives of our brothers and sisters in Kenya. Thank you for your partnership in this amazing, incredible, and God-pleasing project. God be praised! Find Cross View on Facebook! Cards & Games Awards Trophies Cross View Cards and Games celebrated the completion of the 2016/17 season with a delicious pot luck dinner on Friday May 12 at Trillium Woods in Plymouth. Dinner was followed by an abbreviated game night and a closing meeting. Congratulations to Sam Larson for winning this season s revolving Bridge trophy, and to a reluctant Chuck Deanzer for winning the Games trophy. At each monthly gathering of the 9-month Cards and Games season, each participant donates $2, so usually $30 - $50 is banked each month in a Cross View savings account. During the closing meeting, the group voted to donate $500 toward the ECC fence repair. Thanks to Sam Larson, Barb Reichert, Mel Davis, and Linda Baule for their service as coordinators of this group during the past year! The 2017/18 season will begin in September; watch for sign-up information in August at the Connection Center.

4 PAGE 4 OUTREACH AND MISSIONS Updates about LINC, VEAP LINC UPDATE Cross View supports LINC International, including the ministry efforts of both LINC Twin Cities (TC) and LINC International. Around the Twin Cities we support the work of Rev. Ben Griffin (who just preached at our congregation on May 21). Pastor Griffin is working to raise up indigenous ministry leaders to reach specific people groups throughout the Twin Cities, while also connecting them to local congregations. Pastor Griffin has stepped in to lead LINC TC because Rev. Dr. Fung Lo and family are now working with LINC International as Missionary-At-Large to reach the Hmong population that is largely unchurched in Buddhist Thailand. Pastor Lo just recently wrote, Greetings in the name of our risen Lord Jesus Christ! God is working through His people to help us to get the necessary support (we are now up to 70%) we need to be deployed to Thailand and to work among the Hmong people in Southeast Asia. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers as we are still waiting for our visa to come. Please keep our partners in God s mission, Pastor Griffin (pictured below) and Pastor Lo and their families in your prayers, as well as praying for LINC-TC and LINC International as they go through these transitions. To God be the Glory! EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER ECC Service & Family Fun Cross View Early Childhood Center has been involved with Thrivent Action Teams in the last two months. In May we made fleece blankets to give to new families that seek services at New Life Family Services. On June 1, we will have a Family Fun Day with carnival games and a petting zoo. During the Family Fun Day, the children will have the opportunity to tie chewing toys for a local animal shelter and making cards for the Cross View shutins. We are looking forward to continuing to work with Thrivent Action Teams and serving our community in different ways. June is a busy month for Cross View ECC. The calendar includes School Age program starting, fieldtrips, theme days, and Vacation Bible School. Please keep us in your prayers during the coming weeks. 5 YAMS* WhirlyBall & Escape! YAMS recently met on the WhirlyBall court for friendly competition and fellowship. The group gathers several times a year for activities that are fun for all ages. WhirlyBall s unique blend between lacrosse, basketball and bumper cars allowed the players to show off their athleticism and driving skills. You could not help but notice all the laughter and smiles the afternoon provided. There was a little crying, but mostly by the babies who were in the crowd. If you are looking for an opportunity to show off your leadership skills, teamwork, logic and patience then the next event is for you! The YAMS group will try our hand at the Breakout Escape Room on June 24 at 4:00PM, Ridgedale Mall. After the challenge, we will go to Champps for dinner! Each room lasts an hour and can only hold up to 8 people. We will need people to sign up at the Connection Center to get a good headcount.
