Joshua Baumann (605) Associate Pastor Church Phone (605) Church Fax (605) A Christ Caring People Who Gather Around Word and d Sacrament, Yoked Together, In Personal Service to Christ in World Wide Missions AS WE GATHER Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears. With this invitation, the prophet Samuel opens himself to receive God s Word for His people. In the Epistle, Paul reminds us that we are not our own. Rather, we belong to the Lord because we have been bought with the price of Jesus precious body and blood given and shed for the forgiveness of sins. This Jesus is God s first and final Word to all humanity the Logos incarnate. Born in Bethlehem and heading for Golgotha, Jesus invites people to follow Him. From one disciple to another, the invitation is to come and see the One whom Moses and the prophets foretold Israel s Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, our Lord and our God. WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS If there are prayer concerns for you, your family, your friends, or your neighbors, please put them on the blue information card. Our Board of Elders are prayerful with our pastors about these joys and struggles of our earthly journey. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. 2 OPENING SENTENCES Psalm 139:1 2a, 7 10 P O Lord, You have searched me and known me! C You know when I sit down and when I rise up. P Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence? C If I ascend to heaven, You are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, You are there! P If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, C even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. CONFESSION and ABSOLUTION Psalm 145:9 P God, whose Word establishes reality, C we admit that we have turned from the face-to-face relationship of love with You for which we have been created. Sin infects us through and through. Yet, we trust in Jesus alone whose life, death, and resurrection bring Your healing power to bear on our grave condition. Hear us, and heal us by Your love for Jesus sake. P C The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made. Therefore, as a called and ordained servant of Jesus and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 5 CREED 8:20am Apostles Inside back cover of the Lutheran Service Book 11:00am Nicene Inside back cover of the Lutheran Service Book OFFERING We gather our tithes, gifts of love, and our Building Together in Faith gifts. (Please stand) PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH P Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. God, who shatters the silence, open our ears like Samuel s to listen to Your living voice as You speak to us through Your Word and in the Holy Sacrament. Lord, in Your mercy, C hear our prayer. P C P C P C God, who shatters the silence, You have told us that we are not our own, but we were bought with a price not with gold or silver, but with the precious blood of Jesus. Help us to live as Your redeemed and beloved people and to share Your love with others in our various callings and vocations, inviting them to come and see Jesus who loves us and gave Himself for us all. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. God, who shatters the silence, Your Word is like a fire and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces. Open the hearts and the mouths of all Your preachers, to bring forth the fire of Your Word in both Law and Gospel. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. God, who shatters the silence, we ask You to speak healing over all who are sick and suffering in body, mind, or spirit, (especially...). Trusting that Your Word accomplishes the purpose for which You send it, whether now or in eternity, we trust You to bring Your healing purposes to completion in all lives. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. P Into Your hands we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns in communion and love with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. LORD S PRAYER C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; 5

6 and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. SERVICE OF THE SACRAMENT 11:00am Service PREFACE P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C It is right to give Him thanks and praise. P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; for what had been hidden from before the foundation of the world You have made known to the nations in Your Son. In Him, being found in the substance of our mortal nature, You have manifested the fullness of Your glory. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: SANCTUS The 8:20am service continues on page 9 with the Benedicamus and Benediction. 6

7 PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. 9 POST-COMMUNION THANKSGIVING P O God the Father, the fountain and source of all goodness, who in loving-kindness sent Your only-begotten Son into the flesh, we thank You that for His sake You have given us pardon and peace in this Sacrament, and we ask You not to forsake Your children but always to rule our hearts and minds by Your Holy Spirit that we may be enabled constantly to serve You; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Copyright 2017 Concordia Publishing House. All rights reserved. Used by permission. Welcome to Faith Evangelical Lutheran on this Second Sunday after the Epiphany! We are delighted to have you in worship with us. If you are visiting from out of town, we bid you welcome and God-speed on your journey. Should you be from our community, and have no church home, we invite you to make Faith your church home. Greeting you this morning: Before Early Service After Early Service Before Late Service Vern & Janice Dockter Tom & Cindy Deadrick Dusty & Alicia Schoenhard Joel & Jessica Filler Ryan & Ann Noyes Dusty & Deanna Waldron Preaching this morning is Reverend Cory Rajek, our Senior Pastor. Reverend Joshua Baumann, our Associate Pastor, is our Liturgist. Holy Communion is celebrated at our 11:00 service this Sunday. In this Sacrament, our Lord brings us strength and forgiveness to be about His vision and 9

10 mission. Those confirmed Lutherans who come to the Sacrament of the Altar today are asked to read the communion side of our information card found in the pew rack and to sign the bottom of the reverse side so that our communion records might be complete. IN REGARD TO HOLY COMMUNION: According to Scripture, Holy Communion should be celebrated by those who are: United in a common faith (1 Cor. 10:16-17, 21-22; Rom. 16:17); Repentant of sins (1 Cor. 5:11, Matt. 18:17-18); Able to examine their lives (1 Cor. 11:27-29); and believe that in this precious meal they receive the true body and blood of Jesus given and shed for the forgiveness of their sins (Luke 22:19-22). Since Scripture teaches that those people who do not fully understand the meaning of this meal eat and drink to their own harm (1Cor. 11:27-29), and because the Lord s Supper is the supreme act of stating our unity in faith and doctrine, we would ask those people who are visiting with us to please speak with one of our pastors, before communing, in order that we might fulfill our responsibility of properly instructing people in the right use of the precious Sacrament. Adult Bible Study Our Bible study on creation will continue at 9:45 in the CFLC. Please join us. Did you know you can see the Worship Service and Kid's Crossing on our website at anytime? All programs are streamed on and are available the day before they are broadcast. January 14, 2018 Kid's Crossing-Lily is disturbed that her mother is giving her rules for when she can be on the computer, and Aunty Lisa explains to her why the rules are important. Worship Service- Rev. Dr. Roger Paavola, District President of the Mid-South District LCMS, brings today's message Come and See, based on 1 Corinthians 6: The Main Street Living Choir will lead the singing of: God of Grace and God of Glory; Son of God, Eternal Savior; and Savior Again to Thy Dear Name We Raise. The program is interpreted and closed captioned for the hearing impaired. Life Quotes The church must be reminded that it is the conscience of the state It must be the guide and the critic of the state If the church does not recapture its prophetic zeal, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority.
