Obong Christian High School chosen for pilot mentoring project!

This foundation decided to adopt our school to be one of the few schools in Nigeria for their pilot project in student mentoring.

Discussions about the role of values, integrity, honesty, voluntary service, self discipline, patriotism, etc were discussed.

2 Obong Christian High School chosen for pilot mentoring project! A Lagos-based socio-cultural group, INOYO FOUNDATION, adopted Obong Christian High School to select students for a mentoring outing. This foundation decided to adopt our school to be one of the few schools in Nigeria for their pilot project in student mentoring. The students were taken to a five star hotel in Uyo. Discussions about the role of values, integrity, honesty, voluntary service, self discipline, patriotism, etc were discussed. Mentors analyzed each issue and answered questions from students in small group discussions. They had the opportunity to see and have lunch at a first class hotel. Their parents will be amazed when they narrate their experience to them. This exposure will elevate the students vision in life.

4 ANNUAL YOUTH FORUM With the high inflation in Nigeria, the security situation in the Aba area of Abia State just calming down and the charged atmosphere in the Niger Basin communities, it was reasonable to expect a small turnout of participates. It was exciting to note that this year's forum brought in an average of two thousand in attendance even at the 6 am morning prayer meetings. The theme for this year was "The Power of Love 2." Ready to put on their Lord in baptism! On the second and third day speakers taught on the missionary journeys of Paul while the younger children had many lessons on the life of Christ. This year's forum yielded a harvest of thirty nine souls for the Lord. Many of those who had attended the past forums grew up to take positions of leadership in their home congregations. Many of them had married partners they met at the forums and brought along their families. The baton is gradually being passed to a new generation of dedicated Christian youth.

6 NEWLY RENOVATED MT. MORRIS HOME ECONOMICS BUILDING This building was one of the first buildings at Obong Christian High School and the rafters and roof had deteriorated to a point where all the rafters and the roof had to be completely replaced.

8 Jessie Akpamudo Honored Christian women from three Local Government Areas honored Jessie for over thirty eight years of dedicated leadership among the women. The Women's Gospel Meeting began in Many of the women were illiterate and did not believe women could do anything in the church. They were taught how to pray among the women, lead singing, memorize scripture and how to teach other women. There were few churches in the beginning but now there are over 60 churches in the three counties. The women meet the third Saturday of each month at different congregations. The Home Economics Teacher Association honored Jessie Akpanudo for her contribution to the development of Home Economics Education in Akwa Ibom State.

FOOD FOR WIDOWS AND ORPHANS There are no government programs to help widows and orphans. Their situation is very bleak. They must depend on relatives to help them survive.

9 FOOD FOR WIDOWS AND ORPHANS There are no government programs to help widows and orphans. Their situation is very bleak. They must depend on relatives to help them survive. Their relatives are very poor and this puts a heavy burden on their own families. For the past ten years, the Tusculum Church of Christ and the Mt. Morris Church of Christ have sent funds to purchase food to help the widows and orphans. This has not only helped those that are members of the Lord's church but also has been a great outreach into the communities. Deacons take the food to different congregations and distribute it to those in need. AKWABIA HOSPITAL (University Health Center) Akwabia Hospital treats patients from many areas. This patient has severe malaria and was referred to them from a city about 50 miles away.

The church at Ikot Ikpe has been meeting in a garage that was cleaned out. Some land was paid for with funds that was contributed by Sis.

A PROMISE KEPT Blocks are being laid for the worship place at Ikot Akpan Afaha. This the village where Augustine Udo Mbang came from.

He had been given a scholarship by the Tusculum Church of Christ in TN. Augustine planned to take the gospel back to his village.

Ekpuk is now a politician and a dedicated member of the church. Our graduates are having an impact on Nigeria.

10 The church at Ikot Ikpe has been meeting in a garage that was cleaned out. Some land was paid for with funds that was contributed by Sis. Annette Hickerson of Flint, MI. They have started to mould some cement blocks for a new church assembly place. A PROMISE KEPT Blocks are being laid for the worship place at Ikot Akpan Afaha. This the village where Augustine Udo Mbang came from. He was converted to Christianity a year and a half before he died. He died during his first semester in the remedial program at Obong University. He had been given a scholarship by the Tusculum Church of Christ in TN. Augustine planned to take the gospel back to his village. FORMER STUDENTS This couple are graduates of OCHS. Ekpuk Sampson Eshiet was sponsored by Linda Rudolph while he was in school. Ekpuk is now a politician and a dedicated member of the church. Our graduates are having an impact on Nigeria. When he became ill, he asked Moses to promise that the Lord's church would be planted in his village. After his death, Moses went to the village and converted his father and several others. Augustine's dream is being fulfilled. The walls will be raised three or four blocks from the ground and pillars raised to hold the roof. It is going to be a shade to house about 50.

11 Moses was invited to speak at the Church of Christ in Ndot Ikpe. The location is about fifty miles east of Obong Ntak. The church was established with the help of Wendell Broom, an American missionary, in There are about 120 adults but only about 8 men. As seen in the picture the church (the painted building in the background) is located just a few yards from the temple of the gods (in the open shed in front of the painted building). The land was donated to the white man, for a church building, by the village elders. Today, there is a conflict. The village authorities have asked the church to relocate. They say the two deities cannot share the same compound anymore. They say that the white man's God is antagonizing the interest of their native gods. A new site has been acquired and maybe in a few years the funds can be raised to help with the relocation, which is essential for the growth of the congregation. The new congregation at OUR MOST Odoro Ikot is a mile from URGENT NEEDS! the border of Akwa Ibom $100 a month to and Rivers State. 12 Fifteen churches of Christ from three different counties met in Sullivan Hall at Obong University, to pray for the success of the university. Recently the Vice-Chancellor of the university was kidnapped. He was released following payment of a ransom.

13 YOUTH FORUM 2010 Report filed by Dr. Moses Akpanudo With the biting global economic atmosphere and the high inflation in Nigeria, it was hard to guess what the 2010 all Nigeria Youth Forum would be like. The delicate security situation in Aba area of Abia State just calming down coupled with the generally charged atmosphere in the Niger Basin communities, made it reasonable for anyone to predict a skeletal turn up of participants. God usually works in a mysterious way to perform His wonders. It is a great pleasure to note that this year s youth forum brought in an average attendance of two thousand participants even at 6 a.m. morning prayer meetings. This is a great blessing indeed. The main theme of this year s meeting was The Power of Love 2. By 9 a.m. during the first day of meeting on Wednesday 22 nd December, many early arrivals were recorded. Registration of participants, congregation by congregation followed immediately. Enough time was spent in giving orientation talk to all present. Arrangements had been made for each group to be housed in dormitories and classrooms. Those who arrived late had to go to the registry, for full information and registration. Classes got under way for those who had been settled in. At the tail end of each session there was chapel followed by the invitation. The same process was followed at every assembly whether in the morning, by noontime or in the night. During the second and third days, speakers dwelled on topics depicting missionary journeys of Paul while the younger children had many lessons on the life of Christ and the work of the early church. Children from the 6 th grade up were specially catered for in every aspect. Volunteer teachers that know how to deal with this class of participants were recruited. The 4 th and last day of the forum was on Christmas Day. By 12 noon that day all activities were wound up so that participants could get home in time. Each church group brought in a bus of her own or co-operated with nearby congregations to secure transportation for their youths. One remarkable thing about this year s forum was that no one was stranded as in previous years when we had to make extra arrangements for those so stranded. It took so much more to arrange for them to go

14 back home. This year s forum in my estimation, was one of the best forums ever in terms of logistics, management and trouble free operation. Unlike some years, lighting was excellent at all times. Three stand-by generators did well. A year before, appeals were made for self sacrifice so that public address system and few essential items could be purchased. The response from these young future leaders was remarkable as enough fund was contributed to pay for these needed items. Another interesting feature was that many of those who had attended the forum for at least twelve years grew up to take up positions of leadership in their home congregations. Many of them who got married to partners they first met at the forum, came along with their families. We derive great satisfaction in the fact that the baton is gradually being passed from our hands to a new generation of dedicated Christian youths. Enough food was available for everyone. Our thanks go to the Tusculum Church of Christ in Nashville, Tennessee, the Mt. Morris Church of Christ in Mt. Morris, Michigan and to many of the local Churches of Christ around the Campus Church in Nigeria whose support with funds, food and prayers helped us continue with this nation-wide ministry among Nigerian youths. This year s forum yielded a very rich harvest for the Lord as thirty nine souls were won for Him. We pray that we may be enabled to find funds to sponsor one or two of our Nigeria youths to attend the Africa Claiming Africa for Christ (ACAC) Conference to be held in Zambia, East Africa come A continent-wide experience would help them immensely.
