In 2017 we expect each member to aspire to a higher level of worship, relationship, discipleship and stewardship. Ephes. 4:11-16 (NKJV) And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, [12] for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, [13] till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; [14] that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, [15] but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head--christ-- [16] from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. In this new year, each of us should renew our commitment to the Lord Jesus, to one another as brothers and sisters in Christ, and to seeing lost souls served and saved. PARENTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN: Nursery B is available to parents of infants and small children for feeding, changing diapers, or meeting other specific needs. A television that shows the church service has been added to the room to make it more convenient for you as a parent. The room is also equipped with chairs and a changing table. Parents please remember to cleanup after your children when using the nursery.

4 Weekly Announcements Early Morning Prayer: Join us Wednesday morning from 7:00 A.M. - 8:00 A.M. for early morning prayer at Salem Baptist Church in the sanctuary. Ministry Spotlight on the Salem History Walk: Each month a current or past Ministry will be highlighted to tell their unique story. For October, Ushers, Greeters & Medical Services will be the spotlight. Ministries that are interested in being featured in upcoming months should see a Futures Committee Representative. Salem Fall Special Newsletter Ads: Want to feature your community organization and/or business in Salem s newsletter? The Fall Special full-page ads are $100 and halfpage ads are $50. The submission deadline for the Fall Special edition is Friday, October 20 th. Ads must be camera ready and are subject to approval by the church office. For more information, call the office at ext Free Flu Shots: As flu season gets closer the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has recommend that all persons 6 months of age or older receive the flu vaccine. Influenza (flu) vaccination and hand washing are extremely important to protect you and your loved ones from this disease. For more information talk to your family doctor or go to Free flu shots will be available on Sunday, October 22 nd at 10:30 A.M. for those age 18 years and older only. Fall Harvest Festival: The Fall Harvest Festival will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. at Salem. We anticipate over 300 in attendance. This year, we want to be healthier so, we are asking for donations like glow bracelets, pretzels, sugar free gummy bears, life savers, Hershey chocolate miniatures or fun pencils. Whatever you decide to donate, will be greatly appreciated. We would like your donations no later than Sunday, October 22 nd. If you are interested in assisting with this wonderful night of fun, please stop by the table in the foyer to sign-up or contact Sister Kathy J. Trotter. NO COSTUMES! 5 The Omaha (NE) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated is a national organization of women of African-American heritage devoted to serving the community and improving the quality of life for disadvantaged individuals and families. We are in the process of planning our 2018 Cotillion Debutante Ball, our Scholarship Fundraiser. We need your assistance with getting the information to qualifying senior girls. 11 Rev. Rickey L. Lawson Sr. Rev. Rickey L. Lawson is a native of Kansas City, Kansas and was born of March 8, 1966 to the late Rev. Robert L. Lawson and the late Eva M. Lawson. He is the youngest of four children born to this union. He accepted Christ at the age of seven and was baptized on May 6, 1973 at the Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. O.L. Brown. In 1976, his family united with the Rising Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. R. Williamson. Lawson accepted his call to ministry, and preached his first sermon on September 23, He was ordained into Christian Ministry on January 8, In 1990, Rev. Lawson was lead by the Holy Spirit to unite with the Mount Zion Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. C.L. Bachus. Lawson received was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas Public School System, graduating from F.L. Schlagle High School in He is a 1998 graduate of American Baptist College, Nashville, TN with Bachelor of Arts. A 2002 graduate of Malone College, with a Master of Arts, and a 2015 graduate of Memphis Theological Seminary, Memphis, Tennessee with a Master of Divinity. He is currently enrolled in United Theological Seminary, pursuing the Doctorate of Ministry. Rev. Lawson has over 20 years of pastoral experience that spans from the Midwest, to the Northeast section of the country, and now, the southern region. Presently, he is Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas. Rev. Lawson is married to the former Demetria L. Townsend; in total, they are the parents of seven children. To God be the Glory.
