2 From Jeff Jeff Arnold is FPC s Senior Pastor. Dear Members and Friends of FPC, Nearly 100 people gathered in the Fellowship Hall on January 29 for the Better Together Launch. We heard from the members of the Better Together Vision Team, as well as leaders from the Beaver Area School District, the Beaver Borough, and Brighton Wellness and Rehab, who are excited about our partnership. We also did some game planning, practicing the development of specific plans so that we could work out logistics and details that we had not yet imagined. Groups around the room role played planning for events as diverse as providing support and resources to Beaver s ROTC, to providing a baccalaureate service for the High School, to providing job shadowing for Beaver teenagers. 4 Adult Christian Education Adult Christian Ed. Committee (ACE) is responsible for the 10 o clock hour each week and seeks to use it for God s glory by offering Sunday school classes that teach the truth of the gospel. On the final Sunday of March (3/25), ACE will be offering a church-wide adult class focused on God s living and holy word - how to look at scripture in its context, pull out the facts, interpret them and apply them to our lives. George Atkins will facilitate our time together. Because we re hoping to learn and grow together during this time, we re calling this a Discipleship Sunday. Whether you are participating in a bible study, attending Sunday School, seeking to deepen your personal devotions, or have found reading the bible to be difficult in the past, please join us in the Fellowship Hall on March 25th during the Sunday School hour. We re excited to see the powerful ways that the Lord will work in our midst as we draw closer to Him through his Word. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 - ACE Committee Discipleship Sunday How to Read the Bible What s Upcoming? We live in an age of entitlement thinking. We are all entitled. God loves you and our response is, Of course he does; I am me, I am self actualized and I have esteem and live as the center of the universe, that is the way I was raised. After all he made me because he was lonely and I am helping him out. It is a good thing I am here to help this poor lonely God out because he is all by himself and wanted a friend and here I am. I am very important and God knows that, so of course he loves me. n we translate that into Christian service. Isn t it such a great thing for God that I am a preacher, that I am a counselor, that I am a missionary; where would God be without my contribution? We are so skewed in our thinking. We make God the beggar, when we are. We make ourselves the all sufficient giver when he is. It is called idolatry. Bruce Ware Ecclesiastes vs. 4 Heidelberg Catechism I belong--body and soul, in life and in death--not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation. refore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

5 Adult Christian Education Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard Hannah Hurnard was on a 3 week leave from her mission work when she wrote Hinds Feet on High Places. Hannah had been watching gazelles in the hills when the idea for the book came to her. book is an allegory dramatizing the yearning of Gods children to be led to new heights of love, trust, joy and victory. story follows the main character named Much Afraid from the time when she decides to follow the Lord in the Valley of Humiliation until she reaches the High places. Much Afraid s trek takes her through an encounter with pride, a desert detour, loneliness, injury and loss. When she first leaves the Valley, the Lord promises her two companions to help her along the entire way. She is sorely relieved and anticipates their support. Her feelings dramatically change when the Lord provides the pair, Sorrow and Suffering. refore, the beginning of the travel is under the scripture Ps. 30:5, weeping may endure for the night. Much Afraid has seen the deer in the high places moving about with joy and sure step. She wants to be in the victoriously in heights with her Savior. She knows the scriptures. Lord is my strength, and He will make my feet like hinds feet and He will make me to walk upon mine High Places (Habakkuk 3:19) BOOK CORNER and Lord God makes my feet like hinds feet and sets me upon High Places (Ps. 18:33). Much Afraid does eventually arrive after the dangers of the journey with supreme gratitude for her two companions guidance and help. She receives a new name and eventually returns to the Valley as the night ends and joy comes in the morning (Ps. 30:5) Review by Terri Williams (Adult CE Member) a LOOK through the Scriptures SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY 6:45 p.m. with Henry Knapp Beginning April 8 Small Group Bible Studies time is now to join a small group bible study at FPC! We invite you to prayerfully consider getting involved in our growing church with a smaller number of people. Groups meet on a variety of days and nights at different times and locations. primary purpose is to study the Scriptures, fellowship with other believers, and grow in the grace of discipleship and the Lordship of Christ. He lived and died to buy my pardon, an empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives. Because He lives I can face tomorrow. Because He lives all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future and life is worth the living just because He lives. (Because He Lives by Bill Gaither & Guy Penrod). I couldn t have said it better myself. To me these words sum up why we (I) go on mission trips (as well as other work for His kingdom). To see the hope and courage God has put into the hearts of those around the world is so impactful. I wish you could pop straight into my head and see first hand the experiences I have had on each of my Romania Mission Trips. Words and pictures truly can t do it justice but I will try my best. This Christmas trip is just one more testament to the work God is doing through the teams He sends from FPC. We had the privilege once again to be VIPs at their Celebration. A night of music, dance and recitations. When right in the middle Ovidiu, the founder and director of the Phillip House stood up and interrupted the next group to perform. In that moment he spoke to the families in the room, the men, women, teens and children who have been dealt a crappy hand in life. And he took that moment to remind them of why we celebrate Christmas, that God gave us this amazing gift in His Son JESUS. This was huge and it would take an entire letter by myself to go into the details of why. So I suggest you hunt me down sometime to chat. But trust me when I say God is working in the hearts of not just the children and the adults we minister to but He is doing great things in Ovidiu s heart. And then one day I ll cross the river, I ll fight life s final war with pain. And then, as death gives way to vict ry, I ll see the lights of glory and I ll know He reigns. - Joye Hagen, Romania Christmas Mission Trip 2017 Pray for Our Missionary Partners! Beth Knapp, Cent.
