2 THE ORDER OF SERVICE I. WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD THE INVOCATION We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. PASTOR: We begin our Savior s divine service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. CONGREGATION: OPENING HYMN: #264:1,5,6 [Red Hymnal] CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SINS We come before God recognizing that we are sinful and daily need His forgiveness. P: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, begging Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord! P: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord. ALL: O Almighty God, merciful Father, I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess to You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being. P: On this your confession of sins, I as a called and ordained servant of Word, announce the grace of God to all of you, and by the authority and command of our Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all of your sins in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US 1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 1 CHRONICLES 14 1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons and carpenters to build a palace for him. 2 And David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and that his kingdom had been highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel. 3 In Jerusalem David took more wives and became the father of more sons and daughters. 4 These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, 6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, 7 Elishama, Beeliada and Eliphelet. 8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went out to meet them. 9 Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim; 10 so David inquired of God: "Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD answered him, "Go, I will hand them over to you." 11 So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, "As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand." So that place was called Baal Perazim. 12 The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, and David gave orders to burn them in the fire. 13 Once more the Philistines raided the valley; 14 so David inquired of God again, and God answered him, "Do not go straight up, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees. 15 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because that will mean God has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army." 16 So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army, all the way from Gibeon to Gezer. 17 So David's fame spread throughout every land, and the LORD made all the nations fear him.

5 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 1 PETER 3 1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. 3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward -- arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel -- 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror. 7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. 8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For "He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. 11 Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil." 13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled." 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

6 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21 There is also an antitype which now saves us -- baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him. OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. WE OFFER OURSELVES TO OUR LORD AN OFFERING OF THANKFUL HEARTS TO THE LORD So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:7 FOLLOWED BY THE OFFERING HYMN: WS #788 Lord, You love the cheerful giver, Who with open heart and hand Blesses freely, as a river That refreshes all the land. OUTREACH SEMINAR: Messiah Lutheran Church of Hales Corners, WI will be hosting an Outreach Seminar on Sunday, November 8th from 3:00-5:30 p.m. with a potluck to follow. The seminar will be focusing on giving practical advice for navigating conversations on spiritual matters with non-christians. We may know what we believe, but how do we engage in meaningful dialogue with others? We want to share the Gospel with others, but how do we communicate with wit and wisdom? Join us and find out! QUARTERLY VOTERS MEETING SUMMARY On November 1st, the 3rd Quarter Voters meeting was held with nineteen voters present. We thank the Lord for all those able to attend. Meeting highlights include: Pastor brought us up to date on membership changes this quarter: there were four new members added, the Burns family, and no removals. Many adult instruction classes have begun or are about to begin. Pastor is in the process of potentially starting services and instruction at Taycheedah Correctional Institution. Catechism classes have begun in school and on Sundays with public school students. There are currently no confirmands for this coming spring. Financial reports show that budgetary offerings received a total of $30,091.15, and disbursements totaled $38, The year to date offerings are about $24,000 behind budget. There were encouragements that typically 4th quarter is a time when we have made up ground on past deficits. We have resumed printing quarterly reports and will continue this practice going forward. Please remember Budgetary offerings as they are the main source of funds that pay for church and school expenses. There will be promotion of the Budgetary needs during the rest of this year. There were several Mission events and efforts this quarter including Fondue Fest, Fall Mission Festival and a presentation about the 2015 CLC Foreign Mission trip. Our Internet presence is a constant area of work and a growing valuable tool. The Mission budget offerings are currently $1,219 under budget. The school year started in August with twenty students under the guidance of Pastor, Mr. Bernthal and Ms. Ohlmann. The first quarter ends on October 30th. Check the website or calendar for school events. A new Child Protection Policy has been developed and approved by the School Committee and reviewed and approved by the Church Council. It will be implemented soon. The new chairman of Elders, Bob Chase, informed us of the efficiencies that Pastor has brought to the work of this important committee. Pastor explained that he and Elders continue to reach out to members who have fallen out of touch with us and are in need of spiritual care. Please keep in your prayers our fellow Christians who are struggling with admonition. Recent work completed for the Buildings and Grounds include maintenance of the boiler, exterior lights installed on the north side of the building and a range of

9 tasks completed at the summer work day on August 8th. There remains at least one tree that needs to be removed behind the duplex. We thank again all the volunteers who came to the work day and who have come at any time to assist in the upkeep of the property. There was discussion about the sound system and approval to purchase a new amplifier. The Voters directed the Council to research organ replacement options and costs to present by January. The Voters approved a proposal to allow Pastor Radichel and Pastor Ude from Living Hope in Appleton to switch pulpits for the 5th Sunday of any month (about 4 times per year). Pastor also presented information about a potential Pastor that could be shared between Luther Memorial, Hales Corners and Markesan. Currently this is an idea that needs more thought and work from the three congregations, and Voters were asked to give it consideration. No action taken. Next year we need two new members on Council, more individuals for committees and for individual positions. The Council will be developing a needs list shortly. Please consider your strengths and skills for these areas. The Area CLC G.OSPEL O.UTREACH GROUP is planning a special gathering at the Gerbitz farm (W6840 Cty Rd KW, Juneau) on November 14th from 10 AM until noon. We will be discussing social media opportunities and activities as well as joint congregational outreach efforts. Take a few hours out of your week to fellowship with fellow believers and find more ways we can share our love for our Savior! Hope to see you there! Immanuel Dining/Volunteers: This year Immanuel has a new food service manager with Melanie Sydow at the helm. Each day at one can see by the Daily Bulletin that the students are receiving nutritious meals. Melanie replaces Ethel Eder who retired this past year. The supper cook, Kathy Sydow, will be retiring at the end of the current academic year. This past summer the Facilities Manager, Paul Heinze, led a concerted effort by several volunteers to replace the carpeting in the dining hall with some very nice tile. This helped save Immanuel over $11,000. There was also another significant upgrade by volunteers to the athletic fields with fencing and dugouts. Others also provided electrical service to this area. Many other things happen behind the scenes with countless volunteers. Such a willingness to serve is a marvelous blessing to the Immanuel program! 2016 Mission Helper Trip to India Applications are currently being accepted until January 8th, More information and an online application can be found at: Gerhardt and Bernice Mueller are celebrating their 90th birthdays. A reception in their honor for family and friends is planned for November 14th from 3:30 to 5:00 at the Holiday Inn. Please come to greet Gerhardt and Bernice and share in a refreshment of cake, coffee, punch. Witnessing idea for the week: Lord, grant to Your servants that with all boldness we may speak Your word.
