Welcome to all! This week s focus: After two days it was the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take Him by trickery and put Him to death. 2 THE INVOCATION THE ORDER OF SERVICE I. WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. PASTOR: We begin our Savior s worship service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. ALL: Amen! II. WE PRAISE OUR LORD OPENING HYMN: #304:1-4 [Red Hymnal] III. OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US 1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ DEUTERONOMY 4 (NKJV) 1 At 1 "Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers is giving you. 2 "You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. 3 "Your eyes have seen what the LORD did at Baal Peor; for the LORD your God has destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor. 4 "But you who held fast to the LORD your God are alive today, every one of you. 5 "Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess. 6 "Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.' 7 "For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the LORD our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him? 8 "And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day? 9 "Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren, 10 "especially concerning the day you stood before the LORD your God in Horeb, when the LORD said to me, 'Gather the people to Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.' 11 "Then you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. 12 "And the LORD spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form; you only heard a voice.

3 OPENING HYMN: #304:5-6 [Red Hymnal] 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ MARK 14:1-11 (NKJV) 1 After two days it was the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take Him by trickery and put Him to death. 2 But they said, "Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar of the people." 3 And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. 4 But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, "Why was this fragrant oil wasted? 5 "For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." And they criticized her sharply. 6 But Jesus said, "Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me. 7 "For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always. 8 "She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. 9 "Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her." 10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him. OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ NICENE CREED The Nicene Creed was written to defend the Bible s teaching that the MAN Jesus Christ is not only true man, but also TRUE God. (Colossians 2:6-9) I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by Whom all things were made. Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

4 And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. The Feast of Death that Brings Freedom to Us Contrasting: 1. World s Secret Plot for Jesus Defeat 2. God s Open Proclamation of Jesus Victory IV. WE OFFER OURSELVES TO OUR LORD COMMUNION ANNOUNCMENT: (See also blue handout in entry tract rack) Holy Communion is rightly called a Sacrament because it is a Sacred act; not in what WE do for Christ, but in what Christ does for US! Because God s Word presents the reception of this Sacrament as a most intimate expression of spiritual and confessional unity (1 Corinthians 1:10; 10:16-17 Romans 16:17-18), we ask only those who have publicly professed such oneness of faith and belief with us by membership here or another CLC church come forward at this time. This is not a judgment of anyone s faith, but rather an expression of ours. Please speak with pastor if you are seeking a church home or have any questions. We d love to have you! AN OFFERING OF THANKFUL HEARTS TO THE LORD So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:7 SPECIAL PRAYERS ~ GENERAL PRAYER ~ LORD S PRAYER V. OUR LORD BLESSES US CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION OF SINS P: Having heard the Word of God, let us confess our sins to Him. ALL: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from conception. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

5 P: Upon this confession of your sins, I announce the grace and peace of God to all of you, and by the authority and command of our Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all of your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. THANKSGIVING In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thes. 5:18). Dean addressed issues related to Christian Wellness including, depression, suicide, and medication. The video recording of Dean's two hour presentation is available at their website: ascensionbatavia.org Immanuel Dining Hall - Help Requested: This summer, between June 29 and July 19, Paul Heinze, the Immanuel Facilities Manager, plans to remove the carpeting from the Immanuel dining hall and replace it with new tile.
