2 THE INVOCATION THE ORDER OF SERVICE I. WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. PASTOR: We begin our Savior s divine service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. ALL: Amen! II. WE PRAISE OUR LORD OPENING HYMN: #210:1-3 [Red Hymnal] III. OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US 1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ PSALM 100 Redeemed by our Savior, we praise His name because the LORD is good and has shown us His mercy and faithfulness in Christ. Look to your Savior s example of serving. Regardless of who or what anyone has done to us, we eagerly serve the LORD with gladness! P: Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! C: Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. P: Know that the LORD, He is God; C: It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; P: We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. ALL: For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations. Amen! OPENING HYMN: #210:4-5 [Red Hymnal] 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 1 JOHN 2:3-11 The Apostle John explains that Christ came to fulfill the Law in our place, but His work does not nullify the Law. Mosaic law taught love for one's neighbors, while Christ further taught Godly love is about loving even one's enemies. As redeemed children of God we are moved by God to serve Him and our neighbor with gladness, out of love for all He had done for us. 3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 7 Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the 2 P a g e

3 beginning. 8 Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. 9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ NICENE CREED The Nicene Creed was written to defend the Bible s teaching that the MAN Jesus Christ is not only true man, but also TRUE God. (Colossians 2:6-9) I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by Whom all things were made. Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come! Then they came and said to Him, "Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?" 19 And Jesus said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. 20 "But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. 21 "No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. 22 "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins." What does Jesus give to us for His Sacred Wedding Feast? 1. New spotless Robes washed in His Righteousness! 2. New Wineskins fully paid for and fully filled with His New Wine! IV. WE OFFER OURSELVES TO OUR LORD COMMUNION ANNOUNCMENT: (See also blue handout in entry tract rack) Holy Communion is rightly called a Sacrament because it is a Sacred act; not in what WE do for Christ, but in what Christ does for US! Because God s Word presents the reception of this Sacrament as a most intimate expression of spiritual and confessional unity (1 Corinthians 1:10; 10:16-17 Romans 16:17-18), we ask only those who have publicly professed such oneness of faith and belief with us by membership here or another CLC church come forward at this time. This is not a judgment of anyone s faith, but rather an expression of ours. Please speak with pastor if you are seeking a church home or have any questions. We d love to have you! Sam Schierenbeck Mission Helper Trip To Nepal Our own LM member, Sam Schierenbeck has volunteered and been selected to travel overseas on our CLC Mission Helper Teams to Nepal! For several weeks, Sam will be extensively traveling the mountainous country to spread the Word of God with many who have yet to hear it as well as encouraging our brethren in fellowship with the CLC. Isaiah 52:7 says, How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" If you would like to help financially support Sam s trip, please use the black box next to mailboxes in hallway. Also, the Schierenbeck family has invited the congregation to the graduation of Rose on May 20 th, at 10am at ILC in Eau Claire, WI. Open house for Rose will be from 1-3pm at Immanuel. Christ did not say, Omit this, or Despise this, but This do ye. Truly, He wants it done, and by no means neglected or despised. This do ye is His command. This, though, is not a commandment of the Law, but a gracious invitation of the Gospel. Refusing the Lord s invitation a Christian would show himself ungrateful toward His Savior. But Christ not only said, This do ye, but He added, as OFT as ye drink it in remembrance of Me. The Lord instituted the Sacrament of His Holy Supper to be partaken of REPEATEDLY If a friend visits you but once a year, is he calling, on you often? Certainly not. Our building project is in full swing and a lot of exciting improvements are happening every week! Below is an update on the progress of the 9 P a g e

10 remodel as well as some small ways you can help in cutting costs. Every little bit helps! Each Sunday their coin jug will be out for donations. Bring any change you would like to donate as we try to fill our coin bank by summer break! Garage Sale The ladies are planning to hold a garage sale this summer with all profits going toward our remodel project. Please keep this in mind as you are spring cleaning. We are not collecting any garage sale items yet, but please watch for more info as summer months get closer! RRF Project Goal The Publicity Team has put together a schedule of updates and reminders of the progress of our building renovation in order to keep up to date information on the latest news and needs. 12 Daily Bible Readings for Home Devotions Mon Psalm 23 reflects David s first-hand experience with the skills that distinguish a master shepherd from a novice sheepherder. A novice can drive sheep, but leading them is something else again for that requires love, patience, understanding, and guardian courage, too. Our Lord Jesus has all these qualities... and much more. Tues John 10:1-16 God has placed the fence of His Word around His flock, so we beware of anyone who climbs over that fence; we are attuned to Jesus voice in His Word. Jesus proved His love by refusing to abandon us through Calvary and the cemetery. Happy Easter! Wed Hebrews 4:1-13 What does God NOT mean when He speaks of rest? Not His own resting on the seventh day (4) nor the rest that some achieved in Canaan (5-8) but He means the rest that many will share with Him in heaven (9-10). Therefore we use God s Word diligently to avoid losing out on our rest/vacation in heaven. Thurs Ezekiel 34:1-24 expands on the sheep/shepherd picture. In the days of Ezekiel, most clergy didn t have their hearts in it (2-7) to search and salvage, protect and nourish God s flock (8-10). So God decided to take over the job Himself, and do it right (11-17). As to which sheep in today s world are the fat, and which are the lean (20-22) Jesus, the greater David, has been put in charge of distinguishing (23-24). Fri John 10:17-30 Jesus did not shrink from crucial issues such as His contract to save God s sheep via His self-sacrifice (17-18). He stayed on course despite booing from goats in the bleachers (22-23). Jesus maintains His grip on our hearts via His voice/word, and we gladly depend on His voice/word to protect us from soul-snatchers (28-30). Sat 1 Peter 2:25 Since sheep will stray occasionally, a good shepherd uses his voice to call out and coax them (via the voices of His undershepherds) to respond to Him and accept His helping hand. When a wandering sheep returns (repentantly) to the Shepherd and Overseer of souls, the angels in heaven rejoice, as Jesus says in Luke 15:10 and He ought to know. In other words, God keeps track of wandering sheep, targets those souls for intensive care, and when He salvages an individual, everyone in heaven rejoices, including the angels gathered around the throne. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow! 12 P a g e
