7 The First Glorious Mystery THE RESURRECTION 1. The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb on the evening of Good Friday. 2. His soul descends into the realm of the dead to announce to the Just the tidings of their redemption. 3. Fearing the body of Jesus will be taken, the chief priests place guards at the tomb. 4. On the third day Jesus rises from the dead, glorious and immortal. 5. The earth quakes as the angel rolls back the stone, the guards flee in terror. 6. The holy women coming to anoint the body of Jesus are amazed and frightened to find the tomb open. 7. An angel calms their fears: "He is not here. He has risen as He said." 8. Jesus appears to Mary Magdalen and Peter and two disciples on the way to Emmaus. 9. That evening He appears to the apostles behind locked doors: "Peace be unto you... do not be afraid." 10. Jesus breathes on them and gives them the power to forgive sin. Spiritual Fruit: In Thanksgiving for all the good things God has given us.
8 Discovering vocation does not mean scrambling toward some prize just beyond my reach but accepting the treasure of true self I already possess. Vocation does not come from a voice out there calling me to be something I am not. It comes from a voice in here calling me to be the person I was born to be, to fulfill the original selfhood given me at birth by God. Thomas Merton Deacon Formation in Diocese of Belleville If you are interested in learning more about becoming a deacon, you are invited to attend two upcoming informational meetings in December and January. Formal classes are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2018; however, other aspects of formation will begin well before that. The diocese will hold two informational meetings: the first is on Saturday, December 9, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 2620 Lebanon Avenue, Belleville, Building 6 and the second is on Saturday, January 6, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at the same location. You will need to attend both sessions. These meetings will provide a great deal of information regarding the requirements of the program and will explain the types of service fulfilled by deacons. Members of the Deacon Formation Committee will present the programs and will be available to answer questions. To assist in planning and to ensure we have adequate program materials at the meetings, please contact Patti Warner at the Deacon Formation Office to let her know you plan to attend. You can reach Patti by mail at 2620 Lebanon Avenue, Belleville IL 62221; by at pwarner@diobelle.org or by phone at Please continue to pray for all those in our diocese discerning a vocation to lay ministry, diaconate, priesthood or religious life.
