2 TRINITY PRINCIPAL RECEIVES CALL: Join us in prayer for our Principal, Aaron Landgrave, Aaron received a Call from Immanuel Lutheran School in Macomb, Michigan. This means that Aaron now has two Calls and must, with the help of the Holy Spirit, decide where he will serve. If you feel led to speak to Aaron about his service here at Trinity, please do so. We are so thankful that the Lord provides for His church, may Aaron and Adrienne have His blessing as they go through the decision making process. Today is the Deadline to Order Your Flowers! Time is running out to place your Easter flower order. Simply fill out an easter Flower order form, located on the Ushers stand. Place the order form and your payment in the envelop provided. Place all these in the box marked Flower Order, located on the Ushers Stand. Your Invited to Our EASTER BREAKFAST 7:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. NEXT Sunday in the Church Fellowship Hall. Won't you join the Youth of Trinity for this delicious breakfast? Cost of tickets will be $6.00/Adults and $3.00/Children 3-10 years old and will be sold at the door all morning at the breakfast. We will be serving fresh grilled sausages, pancakes piping hot off the griddle, fresh bagels and cream cheese, a variety of fruits, muffins, and coffee cakes. Coffee, juices and milk will accompany the unlimited buffet! This is a great opportunity to visit with family and friends before or after services. We will again be having our Bake Sale in the Narthex which helps support the children we sponsor from Compassion International. The Board of Youth Ministry and the Youth of Trinity appreciate your support of this event! THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION AT TRINITY: The Lord s Supper is celebrated in this congregation in the belief and confidence that in this Sacrament, Christ is truly present, giving us His body and blood, in, with and under the forms of bread and wine (1 Corinthians 10:16, Mark 14:22-24). As Christians (and specifically as Missouri Synod Lutherans), we believe that it is through Jesus Christ alone that we have the hope of eternal life. We believe that we are sinners in need of forgiveness and that in the Lord s Supper, God gives that forgiveness, strengthens our faith, and strengthens our union with Him and each other (Romans 3:23, Matthew 26:26-28). As Christians, we also believe that as we come to the Lord s Supper, we are making a commitment to amend our sinful lives with the help of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 2:19, Romans 8:6). GUESTS AND VISITOR S: Because those who eat and drink our Lord s body and blood unworthily do so to their harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed or confirmed, or who hold to a doctrinal position differing from that of this congregation and the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked first to speak with the pastor (1 Corinthians 11:27-29). At Trinity we practice Close Communion as adopted by our Synod in Convention. ALCOHOL CONTENT IN WINE: The red wine in the chalice and in the outer rings of the communion cup tray contains alcohol. The white wine in the center of the tray is de-alcoholized wine (alcohol nearly 100% removed). You may use the red or white wine in the tray but please remember that the chalice has only red wine with normal alcohol content. Q: Typical question asked by visitors: Can only LCMS members take communion at Trinity Burr Ridge? A: The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod has never understood or applied the historic practice of close[d] Communion in such a way as to mean that only LCMS members are permitted to commune at LCMS altars. The official position of the Synod is that not only are members of other Lutheran churches with whom we are in altar and pulpit fellowship invited to commune with us, but also that in certain extraordinary cases of pastoral care and in emergencies members of churches not in fellowship with us may be given Communion. The Synod stated, for example, in 1986 "that pastors and congregations of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod continue to abide by the practice of close Communion, which includes the necessity of exercising responsible pastoral care in extraordinary situations and circumstances" (1986 Res "To Maintain Practice of Close Communion"). Please see for more information. Gluten Free Communion Wafers Available Upon Request ~ Please request from Pastor Bob at least 10 minutes before the service. 2
3 So many of us spend time thinking of ways of becoming the arms and legs of Jesus and in the end our thoughts, simply remain thoughts. We ask ourselves what is an achievable goal in which I can serve Jesus within my own community. How can I spread the word of Jesus? Today, we are pleased to share with you an exceptional opportunity to turn your thoughts into actions; becoming the arms and legs of Jesus sharing his Word within our Community. We are pleased to announce Trinity, Burr Ridge will be hosting a Serving Clinic on Saturday, September 27, What is the Serving Clinic? The Clinic is a way in which the members of Trinity and the community at large can provide goods and services to folks within the community and neighboring communities who are experiencing financially difficult times. If the appropriate volunteers step forward, the Clinic can provide healing prayer, medical evaluation, dental evaluation, vision screening, family pictures, haircuts, manicures, as well as, toiletries, coats, and books/crafts for the children. We will offer those in attendance, participants and volunteers, a light breakfast and lunch. The clinic can only be successful in reaching those in need with the help of many. There are a variety of ways in which you can serve as follows: Asking your doctor, optical professional, dentist or nurse practitioner if he/she is interested in volunteering (letters asking for help will be provided). Asking your hairstylist or manicurist if he/she would like to donate a few hours. You may be a Doctor, optical professional, Dentist or Nurse Practitioner, or Hairstylist looking to volunteer Volunteer to lead one of the areas of the Clinic (Store, Prayer Room, Children's Crafts, Lunch, etc)). Help set up, take down and clean up If cooking is your strength, you may wish to help serve breakfast or lunch If you are a people person, greeting folds, and escorting them through the process may be suitable for you (Advocate) Work in the store, passing out toiletries Become a prayer partner in the prayer room Security Check-in Station Communications, Advertising Financial Donations Children's Books Donations Toiletry Donations Winter Coat Donations If this article has ignited a fire within you to turn your thoughts into action following in the footsteps of Jesus, please call Joann Kopping at or her at joannkopping@hotmail.com. 5 School News Principal s Notes for the Week of April 13, 2014 LEARNING THE FAITH-LIVING THE FAITH But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Why every Sunday should be Palm Sunday Jesus was all about giving. He gave of himself. He who was rich became poor that we might be rich. He gave until there was no more to give. Jesus was all about goodness. The essential goodness of Jesus, unparalleled by anyone before him or after him, testifies to the life to which we are called. When he saw crows as sheep not having a shepherd, he was moved with compassion he became almost physically sick, so great was his love. Let s give Jesus the palm branch treatment, but let s not make this a one-sunday wonder. His grace, his giving and his goodness compel us to change our behavior, not just pat him on the back, or complain behind his back. Blessings, Mr. Landgrave Thought of the week: Train you mind to see the good in everything. You can follow Mr. Landgrave (and school 5 events) on Twitter

Our hearts break, but in their breaking we discover a path to another world where joy heals the broken heart and love wipes away every tear. We have heard the voice of the angel, greeting us with living words like lightning, He is not here; he is risen. Come, and behold the place. James M.
