1 God Controls the Sea & All Creatures July 8, 2015 Hymns 204; 144; 44 The Bible Ps. 8:1, 3, 4 (to 1st?), 5, 6 (to ;), 8, 9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Gen. 1:10, 21, 22, 25, 26, 31 (to 1st.) And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, Dan. 6:1, 2 (to :), 3-7 Daniel (to 3rd,), 7 have, 9, 10 (to ;), nd and (to ;), 16 (to 1st.), 19, 20 (to :), O (to ;), 25 (to 1st,), 26 (to 2nd,), 27 IT pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; And over these three presidents; of whom Danielwas first: Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

2 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God. Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever. All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions. Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God. Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king s decree; Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.my God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; Then king Darius wrote unto all people, I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. The universe is filled with spiritual ideas, which He evolves, and they are obedient to the Mind that makes them. SH 424:5-9 Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony. SH 514:26-30 Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless. All of God s creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible. SH 544:3-4 In God s creation ideas became productive, obedient to Mind.

3 SH 502:29-3 This This creation consists of the unfolding of spiritual ideas and their identities, which are embraced in the infinite Mind and forever reflected. SH 550:5-8 God is the Life, or intelligence, which forms and preserves the individuality and identity of animals as well as of men. God cannot become finite, and be limited within material bounds. SH 89:25-26 Matter is neither intelligent nor creative. The tree is not the author of itself. SH 551:24-28 Darkness (to 1st.) Darkness and doubt encompass thought, so long as it bases creation on materiality. From a material standpoint, Canst thou by searching find out God? All must be Mind, or else all must be matter. SH 544:13-19 In Science, Mind neither produces matter nor does matter produce mind. No mortal mind has the might or right or wisdom to create or to destroy. All is under the control of the one Mind, even God. The first statement about evil, the first suggestion of more than the one Mind, is in the fable of the serpent. SH 515:5 The serpent of God s creating is neither subtle nor poisonous, but is a wise idea, charming in its adroitness, for Love s ideas are subject to the Mind which forms them, the power which changeth the serpent into a staff. SH 304:3-5 It is ignorance and false belief, based on a material sense of things, which hide spiritual beauty and goodness. SH 82:31-2, 6, In a world of sin and sensuality hastening to a greater development of power, it is wise earnestly to consider whether it is the human mind or the divine Mind which is influencing one. Science only can explain the incredible good and evil elements now coming to the surface. Mortals must find refuge in Truth in order to escape the error of these latter days. Nothing is more antagonistic to Christian Science than a blind belief without understanding, for such a belief hides Truth and builds on error. The scientific manifestation of power is from the divine nature and is not supernatural, since Science is an explication of nature. The belief that the universe, including man, is governed in general by material laws, but that occasionally Spirit sets aside these laws, this belief belittles omnipotent wisdom, and gives to matter the precedence over Spirit. SH 104:13-18 Christian Science goes to the bottom of mental action, and reveals the theodicy which indicates the rightness of all divine action, as the emanation of divine Mind, and the consequent wrongness of the opposite so-called action, evil, occultism, necromancy, mesmerism, animal magnetism, hypnotism.

4 SH 103:17-23 (to 2nd.) Evil is a suppositional lie. As named in Christian Science, animal magnetism or hypnotism is the specific term for error, or mortal mind. It is the false belief that mind is in matter, and is both evil and good; that evil is as real as good and more powerful. This belief has not one quality of Truth. It is either ignorant or malicious. SH 102:3-9 Its basis being a belief and this belief animal, in Science animal magnetism, mesmerism, or hypnotism is a mere negation, possessing neither intelligence, power, nor reality, and in sense it is an unreal concept of the so-called mortal mind. There is but one real attraction, that of Spirit. SH 428:19 We must realize the ability of mental might to offset human misconceptions and to replace them with the life which is spiritual, not material. SH 280:1-8 In the infinitude of Mind, matter must be unknown. Symbols and elements of discord and decay are not products of the infinite, perfect, and eternal All. From Love and from the light and harmony which are the abode of Spirit, only reflections of good can come. All things beautiful and harmless are ideas of Mind. Mind creates and multiplies them, and the product must be mental. SH 512:20-25 Spirit blesses the multiplication of its own pure and perfect ideas. From the infinite elements of the one Mind emanate all form, color, quality, and quantity, and these are mental, both primarily and secondarily. Their spiritual nature is discerned only through the spiritual senses. SH 513:17-21 Spirit diversifies, classifies, and individualizes all thoughts, which are as eternal as the Mind conceiving them; but the intelligence, existence, and continuity of all individuality remain in God, who is the divinely creative Principle thereof. SH 507:25 This divine Principle of all expresses Science and art throughout His creation, and the immortality of man and the universe. Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source. Mortal sense inverts this appearing and calls ideas material. Thus misinterpreted, the divine idea seems to fall to the level of a human or material belief, called mortal man. But the seed is in itself, only as the divine Mind is All and reproduces all as Mind is the multiplier, and Mind s infinite idea, man and the universe, is the product. The only intelligence or substance of a thought, a seed, or a flower is God, the creator of it. Mind is the Soul of all. Mind is Life, Truth, and Love which governs all. SH 209:16-24 The compounded minerals or aggregated substances composing the earth, the relations which constituent masses hold to each other, the magnitudes,

5 distances, and revolutions of the celestial bodies, are of no real importance, when we remember that they all must give place to the spiritual fact by the translation of man and the universe back into Spirit. In proportion as this is done, man and the universe will be found harmonious and eternal. SH 515:22 All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power. SH 231:16 (only, to 2nd.) God is not the author of mortal discords. SH 196:31-32; 197:16 (only) The press unwittingly sends forth many sorrows and diseases among the human family. We should master fear, instead of cultivating it. SH 153:31 Neither sympathy nor society should ever tempt us to cherish error in any form, and certainly we should not be error s advocate. SH 445:5-8 No hypothesis as to the existence of another power should interpose a doubt or fear to hinder the demonstration of Christian Science. SH 125:16-17, 21-24, 25-2 (to 2nd.) Reflecting God s government, man is self-governed. The seasons will come and go with changes of time and tide, cold and heat, latitude and longitude. The agriculturist will find that these changes cannot affect his crops. The mariner will have dominion over the atmosphere and the great deep, over the fish of the sea and the fowls of the air. The astronomer will no longer look up to the stars, he will look out from them upon the universe; and the florist will find his flower before its seed. Thus matter will finally be proved nothing more than a mortal belief, wholly inadequate to affect a man through its supposed organic action or supposed existence. Error will be no longer used in stating truth. SH 260:7-12 The conceptions of mortal, erring thought must give way to the ideal of all that is perfect and eternal. Through many generations human beliefs will be attaining diviner conceptions, and the immortal and perfect model of God s creation will finally be seen as the only true conception of being. SH 495:20 Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony. SH 171:12-13 Mind s control over the universe, including man, is no longer an open question, but is demonstrable Science. SH 217:22-24 in in proportion as you understand the control which Mind has over so-called matter, you will be able to demonstrate this control.

6 SH 516:4 The substance, Life, intelligence, Truth, and Love, which constitute Deity, are reflected by His creation; and when we subordinate the false testimony of the corporeal senses to the facts of Science, we shall see this true likeness and reflection everywhere.
