Svc [Hymns 34, 148, 102] Wednesday, August 2, 2012 SECTION I BIBLE 1 2 Gen. 1:2- (to ;) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; Job 38:33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth? Job 37:5-,1,23 God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength. Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge? Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict. Isa. 25:1,4, O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall. Ps. 8:3- When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 5 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. Ps. 145:13, Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. Ps. 107:1,,8,14,23-25,2,43 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. 8 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder. They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord. Mark 4:1-2,35-40 when And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 3 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? Luke 8:25 And they And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

3 3 of 8 /13/ :01 AM Prov. 30: Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. SCIENCE AND HEALTH :1 3 SH 102:12 The planets have no more power over man than over his Maker, since God governs the universe; but man, reflecting God's power, has dominion over all the earth and its hosts. SH 7:4-13 When the ocean is stirred by a storm, then the clouds lower, the wind shrieks through the tightened shrouds, and the waves lift themselves into mountains. We ask the helmsman: "Do you know your course? Can you steer safely amid the storm?" He answers bravely, but even the dauntless seaman is not sure of his safety; nautical science is not equal to the Science of Mind. Yet, acting up to hi highest understanding, firm at the post of duty, the mariner works on and awaits the issue. SH 57: Weathering the storm WIND. That which indicates the might of omnipotence and the movements of God's spiritual government, encompassing all things. Destruction; anger; mortal passions. SH 20:5-14 Mind, supreme over all its formations and governing them all, is the central sun of its own systems of ideas, the life and light of all its own vast creation; and man is tributary to divine Mind. The material and mortal body or mind is not the man. Allness of Truth The world would collapse without Mind, without the intelligence which holds the winds in its grasp. Neither philosophy nor skepticism can hinder the march of the Science which reveals the supremacy of Mind. The immanent sense of Mind-power enhances the glory of Mind. SH 122:1- (to ;) The evidence of the physical senses often reverses the real Science of being, and so creates a reign of discord, assigning seeming power to sin, sickness, and death; but the great facts of Life, rightly understood, defeat this triad of errors, contradict their false Opposing testimony

4 4 of 8 /13/ :01 AM witnesses, and reveal the kingdom of heaven, the actual reign of harmony on earth. The material senses' reversal of the Science of Soul was practically exposed nineteen hundred years ago by the demonstrations of Jesus; : SH 134:14-135:10 Man-made doctrines are waning. They have not waxed strong in times of trouble. Devoid of the Christ-power, how can they illustrate the doctrines of Christ or the miracles of grace? Denial of the possibility of Christian healing robs Christianity of the very element, which gave it divine force and its astonishing and unequalled success in the first century. Absence of Christ-power The true Logos is demonstrably Christian Science, the natural law of harmony which overcomes discord, not because this Science is supernatural or preternatural, nor because it is an infraction of divine law, but because it is the immutable law of God, good. Jesus said: "I knew that Thou hearest me always;" and he raised Lazarus from the dead, stilled the tempest, healed the sick, walked on the water. There is divine authority for believing in the superiority of spiritual power over material resistance. A miracle fulfils God's law, but does not violate that law. This fact at present seems more mysterious than the miracle itself. The Psalmist sang: "What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? Thou Jordan, Basis of miracles that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams, and ye little hills, like lambs? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob." The miracle introduces no disorder, but unfolds the primal order, establishing the Science of God's unchangeable law. Spiritual evolution alone is worthy of the exercise of divine power. SH 5:- (to,) Lawful wonders The Scripture, "Thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many," is literally fulfilled, when we are conscious of the supremacy of Truth, SH 23: There is no vapid fury of mortal mind expressed in earthquake, wind, wave, lightning, fire, bestial ferocity and this so-called mind is self-destroyed. The manifestations of evil, which counterfeit divine justice, are called in the Scriptures, "The anger of the Lord." In reality, they show the self-destruction of error or matter and point to matter's opposite, the strength and permanency of Spirit. Christian Science The robe of Science The counterfeit forces

5 5 of 8 /13/ :01 AM 30 brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal harmony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil SH 570: The waters will be pacified, and Christ will command the wave. SH 505:1 Spirit imparts the understanding which uplifts consciousness and leads into all truth. The Psalmist saith: "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea." Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good. Understanding is the line of demarcation between the real and unreal. Spiritual understanding unfolds Mind, Life, Truth, and Love, and demonstrates the divine sense, giving the spiritual proof of the universe in Christian Science. SH 3: God never ordained a material law to annul the spiritual law. If there were such a material law, it would oppose Understanding imparted the supremacy of Spirit, God, and impugn the wisdom of the creator. Jesus walked on the waves, fed the multitude, healed the sick, and raised the dead in direct opposition to material laws. His acts were the demonstration of Science, overcoming the false claims of material sense or law. SH 2: The testimony of the material senses is neither absolute nor divine. I therefore plant myself unreservedly Spiritual law the only law on the teachings of Jesus, of his apostles, of the prophets, and on the testimony of the Science of Mind. Other foundations there are none. All other systems systems based wholly or partly on Biblical foundations knowledge gained through the material senses are reeds shaken by the wind, not houses built on the rock. SH 1:14-31 The universe, like man, is to be interpreted by Science from its divine Principle, God, and then it can be understood; but when explained on the basis of physical sense and represented as subject to growth, maturity, and decay, the universe, like man, is, and must continue to be, an enigma. Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind. They belong to divine Principle, and support the equipoise of that thought-force, which launched the earth in its orbit and said to the proud wave, "Thus far and no farther." 6 of 8 /13/ :01 AM 30 Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things. We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and classification SH 12:17- Moral and spiritual might belong to Spirit, who holds the "wind in His fists;" and this teaching accords with Science and harmony. In Science, you can have no power opposed to God, and the physical senses must give up their false testimony. SH 45:14 When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His The one real power likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious as Life eternally is can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony.
