We dedicate this report to our Clifton Park brothers and sisters in Christ who were called to their eternal home in May they be remembered always for their faithfulness and love for Christ Jesus, our Savior.

FROM THE PASTOR C lifton Park Baptist Church claimed 2016 as The Year of Transformation. In truth, every year in Christ should be transformative, but we wanted to give particular attention this year to being changed in meaningful ways through our relationship with Jesus. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, the Apostle Paul wrote, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. While many believers are familiar with this passage, unfortunately too few of us live fully in the reality of it. Certainly, there is a spiritual change that occurs in the life of every believer. Our hearts are softened to receive and accept the will and ways of God. Our position before God is changed from a stranger to a child of God; a joint heir with Christ (Rom 8:12-17). What a blessing indeed! This spiritual transformation should cause us to live transformed lives. The Scriptures challenge us not to be satisfied simply with the promise of heaven when we die, but to make good Kingdom use of the time we have on earth. The Corinthian Church was told to be steadfast, immoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (1 Cor. 15:58). Transformed Christians transform the people and places around them for Christ. In 2016, Clifton Park Baptist Church sought to be agents of transformation within our community. This Annual Report provides details of our efforts. Please take time to read through it and join with us in celebrating the many accomplishments of the congregation during 2016.

As always, we began our efforts by looking inward. We recognized that in order to impact the lives of others, we had to, first, take stock of our personal and family commitments to discipleship. From a pastoral perspective, I recognized that as a transformed community, too many of us were still struggling with issues and problems the Lord has already given us the power to overcome. Specifically, we needed to experience transformation not only in our spirits, but in the very practical areas of our health and finances. In an effort led by Christian Education, we engaged in a three part program of study designed to understand what transformation really means in the life of the believer. We began the first three months of the year exploring spiritual transformation as the basis of all meaningful change. Everything flows from that. In the remainder of the year, we began to tackle heathier living, first, by understanding the need to exercise proper stewardship of our bodies and minds. A transformed spirit should be reflected in transformed habits. This includes our diet and exercise! We ended the year teaching practical ways of transforming our financial health. It all works together. If we are to live transformed lives, we must, first, be spiritually transformed; we must also be physically healthy disciples of Christ, who are freed financially to follow His will. I am excited about the personal transformation that happened within our congregation this year We also looked outward. I continue to be proud of the impact Clifton Park makes within our community. Transformation is not limited to what happens within the walls of our building. Project Neighbor Care (PNC) turned five years old in This year, PNC served over 8,000 people with fresh food, clothing and household goods. In May, Clifton Park spearheaded a relief effort to collect and ship over 3,000 cases of bottled water to Flint, Michigan in response to the clean water crisis in the region. In August, we led in the effort to support more than 100 neighbors displaced by the Flower Branch Apartment Complex explosion. Later, we hosted the imatter Community Fair to strengthen bonds between our neighborhood and the agencies called to serve it, including public health organizations and policing. You will find descriptions of additional transformational activities in the pages that follow.. Pastor Essentino A. Lewis, Jr. Clifton Park Baptist Church

DIACONATE Looking back on 2016, the Diaconate embraced several encounters that transformed how we minister to members and individuals. God demonstrated to the Diaconate early in 2016 that He is our provider. God is always faithful to do His part in the transformation process. Through His faithfulness we acquired furniture that transformed our meeting space into a conference room suitable for meetings and holding private counseling with members. Another aspect of transformation came out of our love for the worth and work of prayer, for we know that we should pray without ceasing. Small group prayer during the Wednesday night prayer meetings were implemented and in conjunction with our June prayer retreat, prayer conference calls were offered to those who participated in the retreat, which allowed members to pray together outside of the church building. Towards the final months of the year, we purposefully sought to create a quiet time to meditate on the Lord before each service; the Diaconate could be found kneeling in prayer, standing in prayer, and walking in praying around the sanctuary in anticipation of worship. We believe these various focuses have furthered corporate/individual prayer, and broadened connections among members. In October, the Diaconate held its first off-site training at a retreat center that provided an ideal setting for the Diaconate to sit under the instruction of Pastor Lewis with dedicated time to lay the foundation to help us better serve God, our Pastor, and God s people. Looking ahead to 2017, we are confident that our transformation will continue, as we work in unity, and because our heart and the heart of God s people at Clifton Park desires to go where He leads. BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY The Bereavement Ministry operates under the Diaconate, providing support to bereaved members of Clifton Park Baptist Church as they grieve the loss of a loved one. In 2016, the ministry introduced a visitation program by which we expanded upon our support to our grieving members by visiting and calling them each month during the calendar year. Members expressed their deep appreciation, and the calls and visits were well received and proved to be a real blessing for both the ministry team and the recipients. COMMUNICATIONS The Communications Ministry continued to deliver ongoing support to staff and ministry teams by providing technology assistance with infrastructure, equipment and software; graphic design for print and electronic materials, web management, member and public communications, social media, and membership system management. This year was no exception for the team in regards to the high demand for our services, which meant that our ministries were busy at work in outreach, engagement and fellowship for the church body and the community. The ministry was also involved in the year of transformation by laying the groundwork with our technology infrastructure to move us along for great things to come in 2017 and beyond. Our transformation included growth in the ministry which allowed us to expand our social media presence on various platforms, such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Whether it was through print, , web or video our goal was to ensure that our members were informed on what was taking place within the church, and those in the community knew that our doors were open to receive them, care for, and serve their immediate needs.

YOUTH MINISTRY This was a transformative year for the Youth Ministry. We welcomed a new Youth Director, Coordinators for our Nursery and Children s Departments, and Parent Coordinator, as those who previously held these positions moved into other areas of ministry. The new changes led us to focus on continuity in our existing programs while at the same time provided opportunity to make new and impactful changes that would excite and encourage our youth. A major milestone for us as a ministry was collectively developing a purpose statement for the Youth Ministry. The annual Fall Festival, an alternative to Halloween, welcomed 55 children and teens for an evening of fun, treats, and fellowship. The coordination of our Operation Christmas Child Gift Shoebox initiative collected a total of 773 shoeboxes through the generosity of members and local community. The ImPerfect program had a record number of 27 teens, the largest number of participation to date. The boys mentoring program, Solid Rocks, engaged in character building sessions, leadership topics and public speaking exercises turned out to be a successful rebuilding process for the Youth Ministry and we are looking forward to what God has in store for USHERS MINISTRY The Ushers Ministry began the new year with gratitude for another year of serving God and allowing Him to transform us so that we could devote ourselves to giving Him our very best. Ushers welcome each person to Clifton Park as he or she arrives at the sanctuary doors, distribute bulletins and welcome packets, help latecomers enter the service at a non-disruptive time, collect the offering, and provide a count on the number of people in attendance at each service. In addition to our regular responsibilities, we celebrated Black History Month by co-hosting a fish fry with other ministries in the church, and celebrated the ushers eighth anniversary with a special bowling event. In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month the ministry dedicated flowers in remembrance of our Sister Sandra Long. As a ministry we are looking forward to the assignments the Lord will have us fulfill as we experience Jesus, from page to life.

OUTREACH MINISTRY As the Outreach Ministry, our mission is to meet the spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental needs of our local and global communities, while sharing our love of God. The following is a report of our 2016 outreach initiatives: Project Neighbor Care In 2016, we reached our milestone of providing Project Neighbor Care (PNC) for five years in our community. Every first Saturday of the month we provided bags of produce, canned and dry goods, meat, bread, and dairy items to a total of 2,534 people (8,149 total household members; 3,300 total children). We were excited that God continued to provide, therefore we were able to expand our efforts to distribute clothing items. Through generous donations that began when our church served as a site to collect and distribute for the Long Branch Apartment complex fire, we increased our visibility as a donation site. Evangelism CPBC Outreach Committee partnered with the Anacostia River Church in Southeast Washington, DC for door-to-door evangelism and street ministry. This experience encouraged us to begin the same types of evangelism in the neighborhood surrounding CPBC in collaboration with Pastor Jose Amaya and Cristo Vive. We walked to nearby apartments and homes and distributed bibles, and cards with information about Clifton Park and PNC. We intend to expand our evangelism effort in Long Branch Apartments Outreach On August 11, 2016, CPBC mourned with our neighbors at the Long Branch Apartments who experienced a three-alarm fire that took seven lives and displaced more than a hundred people. We collected goods and became a destination for county officials and residents to discuss the on-going concerns that stemmed from the fire. CPBC provided donations to affected families whose children attended New Hampshire Estates Elementary School as a result of a special request from the school. In addition, Second Chance Toys donated about 200 toys to these families for Christmas. Bottled Water Collection for Flint Michigan Flint, Michigan had, and still has, a contaminated water crisis. Thousands of children have been exposed to the dangerous levels of lead in the drinking water. This crisis led Clifton Park to have a God-sized goal of providing 3,000 cases of water. God provided through our congregation along with family, friends, co-workers, and local businesses and were able to exceed our goal and fill three tractor trailers.

Our I-Matter community event was intended to strengthen police and community relations in response to the violence and social injustice that has been occurring around the nation. We wanted to shine a spotlight on the marginalized members of our community and connect them with the services and organizations that are available to support them, as well as build bridges of mutual understanding and respect in the community through open and candid dialogue.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION In 2016, Christian Education supported the Year of Transformation with three adult all-church Bible studies: Spiritual Transformation through Gospel Conversations, Transformation in Health and Wellness, and Financial Transformation. Each sought to move the congregation to being like Jesus in principle and in practice. About 100 persons matriculated through the three classes. Sunday School for children and teens in grades 3 to 12 offered an opportunity for students to study from Bibles that contained both Scripture and devotional material. Sunday Awana was retained for children ages 3 to grade 2, the Cubbies and Sparks. For the first time, our Tuesday Awana clubbers (3 rd - 6 th graders) participated in Awana International s regional Bible Quiz event. Twelve clubbers signed up, practiced hard and walked away with a number of ribbons, including a team plaque for being one of the top achieving churches! On May 24, Tuesday Awana, completed 16 years and celebrated with an Awards Ceremony and Ice Cream Social where Truth & Training clubbers did an outstanding job with their oral presentations entitled, What Awana Means To Me. From February to April, the Great Commission Groups gathered on Wednesday evenings to do the first of two all group studies from their study plan, Telling God s Story. This introductory overview of the Bible was in preparation for their 52-week chronological reading of the Bible, which many groups began in June. Telling God s Story seeks to help the reader see the Bible as one continuous story of which they are a part. The 2016 recipient of the Excellence in Education Award was Sister Jannie Harrell. Jannie has served in Christian Education 32 years with brief breaks along the way. She has primarily worked with the 1 st and 2 nd graders in Sunday School and now serves that same age group as the Sparks director of the K-2nd graders in Sunday Awana. Other Christian Education work included: FAITH Foundations as a viable Bible study option for those new to relationship with Christ. Refresher training for Decision Counselors Training for New Spiritual Gifts Consultants New Bible studies, one for Married couples, and another for young mezzo-aged women We ended the year with our first Surviving the Holidays Grief Share event. Persons in bereavement were invited to participate in this video-driven and group discussion study. Persons came ready to share about their loved one and the impact of the loss. We entrusted our sorrow and tears to our Friend, Jesus marked my 25 th anniversary as Minister of Education at Clifton Park. To God be the glory! I am recalling the testimony I gave to the congregation on my interview weekend in June 1991 as I quoted the words of the Apostle Paul from Philippians 3: These words remain my heartbeat: I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection of the dead. Not that I have already attained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take

hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. 25 years later, I add these words, And lead others to the same. Thanks Clifton Park for 25 great years of doing life together! I remain honored and humbled by the partnership. FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE The Fellowship Committee envisions a multicultural, spiritled and unified church expressing our love of Christ and one another through creative and diverse fellowship activities. The impact of the Fellowship Committee on the culture of the neighboring community and Clifton Park in 2016 was positive and encouraging. Events and activities were planned for 1) all members of the body at Clifton Park, 2) new members, 3) our community law enforcement, and 4) neighboring communities and frequent visitors. Our goal was to share God s love, and to let our communities know that Clifton Park is here to serve and provide support in any way that we can. As a result, we ve established a relationship with the Third Police Precinct of Montgomery County and enriched our connection with the surrounding community. What a tremendous blessing to see God at work within the individual ministries. Each member s dedication to service and desire to use her/his gifts(s) to fulfill God s purpose not only for their life, but also for the life of Clifton Park was energizing. Main highlights for our ministry in 2016 were: A surprise fellowship activity for the Monday night basketball players afforded an opportunity to build a bond and officially welcome them to CPBC. A light meal was served, and a gift was given to five lucky ticket holders. Pot Luck All-Church Fellowship Activity that featured events for the entire family, such as tribal charades for the adults; a puppet show, story time, singing and sculptured balloons for the kids. As usual, delectable dishes lined the buffet table. Watch Night Breakfast. After the New Year s Eve Service, ticket holders were invited to a catered sit-down breakfast in the gymnasium. The food was plentiful and delicious. Free Community Car Wash, which featured games & activities for the children, Moon Bounce, and a Snow Cone Machine. Police officers and new members were also invited. Over 30 cars were washed by CPBC members on one of the hottest days of the year.

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE The Hospitality Committee certainly put its mission statement into action in The team served as host to many of our church-wide events this year: the Easter Breakfast, International Sunday and CPBC s 66 th Anniversary Reception. We faithfully supported events of other ministries such as the STEAM Camp program in which we handled the food prep and service for the attendees; prepared and served over 200 bagged lunches to those in attendance at the Day of Service I Matter event; and provided meals for Membership Orientation Classes and Right Hand of Fellowship recipients. As part of the Fellowship Committee, we partnered with other ministries to create fellowship opportunities such as the free car wash that welcomed our newest CPBC members and serviced our local police officers, and our 2 nd Annual All Church Fellowship Activity. It was pleasing to know we were professing our love for God by what we were doing for His people. While comforting our neighbors after the devastating fire at the Flower Branch Apartments, Hospitality contributed by providing refreshments to those attending donation collection activities at CPBC or visiting the store setup by the Outreach Ministry. We were also able to assist in CPBC s Flint, Michigan Water Drive by preparing lunches for the volunteers doing the heavy lifting of loading the trailers. Our service enables the leaders to focus on the core purpose of their events without dealing with the work and distractions of behind the scenes activities of shopping, prepping, cooking, setting up, and serving. It is all done with a servants heart, in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. GREETER S AND VISITORS MINISTRY The Greeter s Ministry are the frontline of welcoming our members and visitors alike through the doors of Clifton Park. God has blessed us with faithful servants to serve so that we are able to have greeters at both services. In 2016, it was our goal to ensure that not only our members, but particularly our visitors would feel truly welcomed upon entering and be greeted with the love of the Lord to show how much their presence meant to us and to have them in fellowship and worship with us here at the Clifton Park family. We also assisted persons in need of directions to specific areas of the church, provided welcome packets to help our visitors get acquainted with who we are, and assisted at special events such as weddings, funerals, and conferences. It is a joy to have greeters who are excited about serving and making people feel at ease when they enter the church. We give God thanks for the privilege of serving Him in this humble manner and welcome anyone who is willing to serve with us to greet others with love, a kind word, and a smile.

MEN S FELLOWSHIP MINISTRY The CPBC Men s Fellowship Ministry (MFM) began the 2016 year by hosting its annual Super Bowl Celebration which included a potluck meal and the attendance by members of the boy s mentoring group, Solid Rocks. MFM provided support throughout the year by assisting with various events including the recognition of mothers on Mother s Day, and taking leadership in the June Project Neighbor Care open market. One of the most memorable highlights this year was the involvement of the men in the Flint Water Project. In addition to donations of water, the men stepped up to the call of duty to oversee and manage the task of loading upwards of three thousand cases of bottled water into trailers for shipment to our brothers and sisters in Flint, Michigan. In the coming year, the MFM will focus on serving the homeless in our surrounding community, particularly those who are military veterans in response to our calling to serve those who are in need.

COUPLE S MINISTRY As we lead the way, teach the truth and experience life together, our desire (the leadership team of the couple s ministry) is for every married couple of the CPBC family to maintain a godly marriage - this marriage mirrors the plan designed by God. John 2: 1-11 describes the first miracle performed by Jesus, it was the wedding at Cana. We believe God can and will work miracles in our marriages. The couples ministry began the new year by coming together to organize the church clothes closet; sorting, folding, hanging and arranging clothing to be provided to those in need within our community. We followed with taking the lead for our February Project Neighbor Care open market. On Valentine s Day we celebrated marriage by providing roses and cupcakes to all of our married couples. Our prayer was that as the couples had their own private celebrations they would celebrate their love for each other. Transformation Through Prayer. Believing that prayer can transform a marriage we hosted a viewing of the movie War Room with two follow-up discussion sessions facilitated by Pastor Lewis and First Lady Cassandra. Transformation Through the Word. Another highlight for the ministry was the start of a couple s bible study, using Robert & Bobbie Wolgemuth s One Year Devotional Study to Draw You Closer to God and Each Other. During the year we sponsored two off-site fellowships for our couples. May the God we love and serve give us wisdom to apply His word; we are determined to defeat the challenges that attack our marriage. SENIOR S MINISTRY Fifty-Five Plus and Alive in Christ The Senior Ministry promotes participation and involvement of seniors in various opportunities, engaging seniors to grow spiritually and to fellowship with one another. In 2016, ministry members were involved in several events, activities and other phases of church ministry. One of the events that is highly attended is our member birthday celebrations which we host three times a year either at CPBC or an external location such as a restaurant. In addition to faithfulness in worship, CPBC seniors were actively involved in Tuesday Bible study, the Diaconate, SHARE Food Network, Prison Ministry, Progress Place, and Project Neighbor Care.

TRUSTEES Colossians 3:17 -- and whatever you do in Word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. The Clifton Park Board of Trustees is tasked to maintain the building and grounds; our facility is to be safe and secure for all. In addition, our responsibility includes managing all contractual obligations that bind or obligate CPBC. The Van, kitchen, and the security ministries are under the guidance of the Board of Trustees. 18 STEWARDSHIP AND FINANCE The Stewardship and Finance Committee (SFC) is responsible for recommending to the Church Council the ways and means of financing ministries, programs and activities of the church, and for promoting Christian Stewardship based on biblical principles. The SFC has two ongoing performance goals which are intended to measure progress toward effective stewardship. The first goal is to establish and maintain an effective stewardship education program as measured by the growth in giving by individuals and families in the congregation. The second goal is to oversee and maintain accountability and integrity over the Church s financial resources in cooperation with the Church Treasurer. During 2016 a major accomplishment in the financial area was the line item budgets for the Fellowship Committee Ministries. This was completed and included in the Corporate Financial Reports for the first time. Fellowship Ministry Chairpersons will now have an accurate up-to-date status of funds for their respective ministries. Stewardship promotion continues to emphasize the importance of Christian Stewardship in support of mission and ministry. Pastor Lewis continues to use a variety of methods to discuss biblical stewardship throughout the year. Giving has increased during this past year, which is an indicator that the congregation has responded to his call for all of us to be good stewards. Conclusion: The SFC continues to be optimistic about CPBC s financial growth in 2017 and beyond. Our prayer is that the members of CPBC will continue to grow in the grace of giving, and that God will provide abundantly for all of our needs for mission and ministry. The SFC thanks those members of the congregation who are faithful and obedient in their giving of their time and talents, and financial resources to support this Ministry.
