TLC Book Club We met on April 17 at 6:30pm in Jacobsen Hall to review Look Again by Lisa Scottline. Another excellent read and good discussion followed. Listed below is the book we will be reading for May. As summer is a busy time, we decided not to meet for book club in June, July or August. May 15 th, 2017 The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman "The Light Between Oceans" tells the tragic story of lighthouse keeper Tom Sherbourne and his wife Isabel who, after discovering a baby in a shipwrecked boat, must face the terrible consequences of their decision to raise the child as their own. We talked in March about how many good books have been turned into a compelling movie. So we have it set up for Movie night on April 24, Monday at 6:30pm to view the movie- Loving, a 2016 biography. The story of Richard and Mildred Loving, a couple whose arrest for interracial marriage in 1960s Virginia began a legal battle that would end with the Supreme Court's historic 1967 decision. All are welcome to attend! Bring your spouse or a friend to enjoy the free movie and popcorn. The movie night will be in the newly renovated Whole at Trinity. See you at the movies!! We would welcome you to join us in discussion for one or all of these books! If you have a book you would like to read with us, please contact Cindy Golbuff at: or scgolbuff@wctatel.net Thank you Cindy Golbuff Mark your calendars We will be doing a church picture directory, August and September 17 and 18th. 10 A message from Pastor Eileen Clap your hands, all you peoples; Shout to God with loud songs of joy Psalm 47:1 On one of my clergy Facebook pages, the following question was posed: What does your church do for fun? Well, I thought and replied with a long answer. We have bowling, dart ball, game nights, donuts for kids, movie nights, and lots of food. Did I mention food? I was surprised at the number of comments on the feed that stated that their congregations don t do anything for fun. There were others that stated that their congregations had too much turmoil and trouble to consider having fun. Still others stated that the people in their congregations don t like each other so they wouldn t want to do something social with each other. Thankfully, there were some that commented that they working on having fun. We do know how to have fun. That s surprising when you think of our history. I read in the 100 th Anniversary History that a movie was shown on the newly purchased film projector. The movie was about a local boy who had gone to West Point. It sounds like a good movie. However, there was much controversy when the young man decided to go to a dance, and a discussion was held on appropriate movies to be shown on the church film projector. Sometimes we Christians can get so serious. Sin, grace, forgiveness, and the like are heavy subjects to think about, but there is great joy in our story. When I am meeting with parents before their child is baptized, I love telling them that part of being in the Christian family is to have fun, to have joy. We do not stay in the depth of Good Friday sadness and depression. We live in the joy of the Resurrection. This month there is a lot of fun! Ministry should be fun! Loving our neighbors should be fun! Sharing the word of God is fun! Join me this summer to have some fun!
Worship & Music Committee What a thoughtful and meaningful Lent, Holy Week and Easter Sunday we have just been through. There are as usual so many people to thank, but I have to start with Pastor Eileen, her passion for God's word is awesome. She made our journey very deliberate and challenging at times. There are so many others this committee needs to again thank for saying 'yes' when asked. On Palm Sunday we had a dramatic reading from Lance Skov, Todd Heavner, Gloria Fitzgerald and myself and on Good Friday people really stepped up when we needed a lot of readers. Those were Jean Pestorious, Ron Petersen, Corky Stanley, LeAnn Juveland, Blake Kelley, Scott Golbuff and Tiffany Larsen. There is so much that goes into planning all that happens during this season and it is not done by one committee or just a few people. We decorated the Church on Sat. before Easter with many hands making it go so much faster, including Pastor E. and her children. A good time was had by all and the Church looked stunning with all the flowers and butterflies. A special 'Thank you' to Gloria Fitzgerald and to Kelly Gleason for all you both do, this committee couldn't do anything without you! The month of May is also full of great special services with Baccalaureate and Confirmation and Mother's Day to look forward to. Hope to see you there. I found a great quote on Facebook and want to share it. "Just love 'me all, I'll sort it out later", God We all should remember this one. s/andrea Jensen Easter morning
Faith Formation Committee He is Risen. He is Risen Indeed! April showers bring May flowers. Most people are familiar with this saying. The month of May is filled with the sounds of birds, the smell of fresh flowers and summer breezes from time to time. The month marks the end of spring and the beginning of summer. There's growing anticipation of backyard barbecue get togethers, outdoor activities and beach parties. School age children are anticipating the last day of school for summer vacation and parents are planning for a family get away after being inside during the cold winter months. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind: It takes a village to raise a child and If you want to go far, go together. To have success for our Trinity youth, we need people willing to help out and we do! It was so nice to see the youth coming together with other volunteers to do the Lent suppers. Thank you everyone who helped out in any way during this Lent season. It is much appreciated! We the committee and Pastor Eileen talked about a challenge to raise $1500 for World Hunger during the Lent season and if that money was raised, Pastor Eileen would kiss a Pig! So many piggy banks were handed out to collect the money for World Hunger. And once again, Trinity members have been so very generous with over $ raised for World Hunger. So on April 30 th, Pastor will pucker up and kiss a pig to support World Hunger. Thank you Pastor and everyone for your giving hearts to support those in need! Come and see what the FFF committee is doing. Our next meeting is May 4 th at 5:30pm. Book on Wheels Please stop by the book cart and let your children choose books to take home and enjoy! The cart is located by the nursery.
Please put the following dates on your calendar: May 14th Baccalaureate Service/Faith class (Sunday school) recognition there will be no class, but plan on attending worship and celebrate after worship. ALL ARE INVITED, PARTY!!! May 21 - Confirmation will be held. MaChar will be working with the kids prior to this date to make their stoles and organize the day, etc.. Thank you! June Vacation Bible School will be a collaborative event with Ascension, Central Freeborn, Grace, Salem churches. Sign up your kids or grandchildren for VBS. There are registration forms on the opportunity table If you have any questions you may contact Annette Hansen who will once again be Trinity s Coordinator. July 7th Summer Splash, the best day of summer. It starts at 1:00 with water fun, dinner around 6:30. More details later. Also be on the lookout for the July Valley Fair trip signup sheet. Confirmation students are working hard to raise funds for their mission trip to Ohio in July. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers so they may have a good trip and can help many people in Jesus name. s/cindy Golbuff Sunday, May, 14th
Life & Missions Committee We have so many individuals in our congregation that do so much that part of our meeting is spent deciding who to send Thank You Cards to. We all need to say Thanks to anyone we notice doing tasks or other activities. Also remember if you didn t get a card periodically we say a Big Thank You. From us. We are all set for our May 14 th Mother s Day Brunch. Our menu is French Toast Bake, Scrambled Eggs, Ham, Sausage, Biscuits and Gravy, Ice Cream, Milk, Juice, and Coffee. Sounds good-- everybody come. Free Will Donations will go toward our Wednesday Night Meals. This is also a Special Day as we recognize our graduating seniors at a Baccalaureate Service. We are also recognizing the Family Faith Formation Students. We will again be starting to serve Wednesday Night Meals on April 26 th. These will continue through May 24 th. During the summer months our plan with the help of other committees will be to have one special night a month for a picnic, maybe a outdoor movie, and games. Watch for more information on this. We will start regular Wednesday Night Meals again in September. We are excited to invite all members young and old to attend a Trinity Night at the newly formed Albert Lea Laker Baseball Game on June 30 th. The Albert Lea Laker Team is a newly formed team of current college students that will play 30 games in what is known at the Pioneer League. The games will be designed to be fan friendly. We are having T-Shirts made with Trinity Church Albert lea, Mn on them. They will be blue or lime. Cost will be $10.00 with the profit going to the Cincinnati Mission Trip Fund. Watch for more information and look forward to attending and spending a fun evening. We are also in the planning stages for our Annual Volleyball / Picnic. It will be held July 9 th at Snyder Fields. Look forward to information on a new Picture Directory which we be done this fall. Check the newsletter for information on Shine Fest Week which is May 13 to 20. s/jean Pestorious

Jean Pestorious, Darcy Nielsen and Verlaine Williams were collecting donations for the Piggy Bank Challenge ELCA World Hunger Piggy Bank Challenge Pastor Eileen was challenged by the youth. If we collected $1, she would kiss a pig. We made our goal. Pastor Eileen will kiss a pig on Sunday, April 30th after the worship service. As of Tuesday, April 18th we had raised $1, A BIG thank you to everyone that donated. Here is some information regarding what the money will go towards. Just $30 can provide a piglet to a family in need. When this little piggy grows up, she will give birth to as many as 16 piglets each year. Pigs help fertilize fields, provide food to eat and can be sold at market for muchneeded income. What a BIG difference a pig can make! Distribute these coin boxes to your Sunday school classes, youth group, or entire congregation to collect your offerings.
