Worship Resources You may obtain large print hymnals and hearing devices from any usher. We provide children s bulletins for ages 7-12 during the summer. Kids Notes will resume in the fall. Whether you are a long-time member or new to the church, wearing a nametag provides others the opportunity to meet you, greet you by name, and for you to become more familiar with others at church. You will find nametags and markers in baskets at all major entrances. Westminster s homebound family who can no longer attend worship with us by sending a card, saying a prayer, visiting! Westminster s Covenant Prayer Group prays weekly for specific needs of the faith community. Anyone may submit a prayer request by leaving a confidential message on , ext. 335, or filling out a prayer request card (in the pew pocket) and placing it in the offering plate. Iraq and Afghanistan often seem far away, and we may neglect to realize that Americans, as well as Iraqis, Afghans and members of coalition forces, continue to die. As Christians, we are called to pray for the spreading of peace and justice and an end to violence. 4 ORDER OF WORSHIP PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP The choral music for this morning s service is one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s many Mass settings, the Latin text of which constitutes the fixed portions of the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. It was composed in 1774 (when Mozart was just 18 years old!) for use at the Cathedral in Salzburg, Austria. Baptism is the visible sign that shows we belong to God. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, Like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God envelopes us with steadfast love. QUESTIONS FOR THE PARENTS AND CONGREGATION Do you acknowledge Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? We do. Relying on God s grace, do you promise to live the Christian faith and to teach that faith to your child? We do. Will we, the people of the church, promise to nurture and support Addison and her parents, and will we encourage her to become a follower of Christ? We will. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER THE ACT OF BAPTISM PRAYER FOLLOWING BAPTISM Gracious God, giver of life, you have called us by name, and you pledge to each of us your faithful love. We pray today for your blessing on Addison. Watch over her and guide her as she grows in faith. Give her parents your wisdom and let them love with your love. Remind us of the promises we have made, and help us teach Addison what it means to follow Christ. Mold us all into your family of faith that we may embody the justice and compassion of Christ in our daily lives. Amen. 6

12 We are in need of host couples and dinner volunteers for the Family Promise ministry. Host couples eat dinner with our guest families, spend the night at church in your own designated classroom, and see the families off on the Family Promise van before 6:00 a.m. the next morning. Dinner volunteers prepare dinner for the three to four families we will host. Individuals, couples or groups can cook at WPC or at home. What to serve? Soup and salad, lasagna, a taco bar or your own specialty. If you have no time to cook, consider take-out fried chicken or ready-to-serve casseroles from Costco.
