KEWANEE, IL Worshiping Jesus, Walking with Jesus, Working for Jesus to God s glory Our Pastor s Paragraphs With the Christian celebration of the resurrection of Christ, our attention turns to the many miracles that are written in the scriptures. In the Gospel of John we see Jesus turn water into wine. We see Him teaching Nicodemus about being born again. He talks to a Samaritan woman about her life and how it can change. And we certainly see Christ s mercy in the healings and how that changed the lives of people. So the question is there What has a relationship with Christ done for you? In the teaching about miraculous healings we see a common thread. A common belief in Jewish culture was that calamity or suffering was the result of some great sin. But Christ used these men s suffering to teach about faith and to glorify God. We live in a fallen world where good behavior is not always rewarded and bad behavior not always punished. Therefore, innocent people sometimes suffer. If God took suffering away whenever we asked, we would follow Him for April 2017 From the Desk of Interim Pastor Dan Craig comfort and convenience, not out of love and devotion. Regardless of the reasons for our suffering, Jesus has the power to help us deal with it. The Maundy in Maundy Thursday refers to the command Jesus gave to the disciples at the Last Supper, that they should love and serve one another G F 7:00 pm Good Friday Service held at St. Peter s Evangelical Church UCC, 710 W Central Blvd. Sponsored by Kewanee Church Fellowship. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit Abilities Plus R E H 10-11:30 am For children ages 3 yeas old - 6th grade held at the Boss Community Center. A light brunch will be served and there will be games, crafts, story and an egg hunt! There is no fee to participate R S 7-8:30am. Easter morning breakfast. Menu: egg casserole, biscuits & gravy, coffee cakes and fruit cups. Donations for coffee cakes and ingredients would be appreciated. You know, I have never felt qualified, to be a pulpit pastor, let alone for such a congregation as this. We have seen our way, together, through a few changes and my prayer is that we have glorified God in the process. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your patience with me and your faithfulness to the kingdom work here in Kewanee. A new era is now here. We need to find a spirit of love and compassion and acceptance of new ideas and a new found willingness to serve when challenged. God s work is so important that we need to let Him be our guide and trust in the leadership of a new pastor. There will be challenging days ahead with a new pastor, a new youth pastor, a new office administrator, and this old worship leader. Let s get excited about the future of this Church and all the possibilities God has in store for us. Let s continue to pull together to the praise and honor of Jesus Christ. 5 LED Sign continued Page 8 Page 5 Pastor s paragraphs continued has diminished. Still advertising costs for both continue to rise. At the same time, the city of Kewanee has new rules and regulations in place for outdoor arrow and yard signs. We have a sign that denotes we are the First Baptist Church. What does that do for the community? They know we are the First Baptist Church. What a tremendous opportunity to proclaim to Kewanee the Gospel of Christ and promote the ministries and activities of our Church. Promotion is so important to success. Are we doing a good job or could we do better? Is a onetime ad or a 30 second commercial serving our needs? We must promote.. promote.. promote. The digital sign is the perfect tool to accomplish this. Based on our current advertising efforts are we making parents in the community aware of Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Wednesday Night Kid s Club, Easter Activities, the Boo Bash and the like? For well over a year we have had extremely limited ability to promote community plays, community choir concerts, our own seasonal concerts and other church fellowship activities such as Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Baccalaureate and Thanksgiving.? The Trustee Board has given their approval to proceed with raising funds to purchase the sign. A proposal has been presented for a total cost of 17, The sign is 8 feet 3 inches by 41 inches.? The proposal is to place the sign flat on the wall directly north of the doors on the educational wing. The aluminum letters spelling out First Baptist would remain. The cross would be moved towards the doors forming sort of a frame on the south side of the sign. Two other pluses. We have tremendous traffic flow on Tremont St. and the sign will be visible from Main St. Thanks for your consideration of this meaningful project. Your donation would be greatly appreciated. However, it must be a sacrificial gift as we do not want your support of this project to replace your weekly giving. We sing an old hymn I ll Tell the World That I m a Christian. Let s tell our corner of the world about Christ and how we can enhance their walk with Him! strength for the trial and a clearer perspective on what is happening. My mother was crippled with polio in 1953 and left to wear a brace on her leg, walk with crutches, and spend a lot of time in a wheel chair. Some said that if she had a deeper, strong- Celebration Dinner Members and Regular Attenders of First Baptist are invited to join together on Sat., April 22nd for a special evening to welcome Pastor Jon, Sue, Tori and Youth Pastor Luke. A catered dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. in the er, faith that she should have been healed. Just the opposite was her attitude. 6 Page 6 Page 7 International Potluck Into All The W rld Our choir will present their spring concert, Into All the World on Saturday, April 29th at 7:00 pm. On Sunday, April 30th they will have 2 performances... Their 1st performance will be during the worship service at 9:00 am The 2nd performance will be Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. In conjunction with the concert our church will have an International Potluck on Sunday, April 30th at noon. You are asked to bring an international remains covered page 7dish to share i.e. Italian, Mexican, Change other page 7 to German, Greek, page 11 Chinese, Polish, and so on. The Social Committee will provide drinks and table- ware. So get those cookbooks out! Let s see how many different dishes we can come up with. Note: There will be a time of fellowship following the evening performances of the concert. The Social Committee will be seeking donations of cookies for this. Watch for a sign up sheet soon. Saturday, April 29th Spring Concert Sunday, April 30th - 9 am & LED Sign Fundraiser A Spaghetti Supper & Trivia Night will be held at the Boss Community Center on Saturday, April 8th. To raise funds for a digital sign. The Supper will be held from 5:00-6:30 pm Menu: Spaghetti, vegetable, garlic bread, drink & dessert - all for a free will donation! Trivia Night will be begin at 7:00 pm Teams should be 8-10 members. Cost is $10 per person. Please register your team by calling Registration deadline is April 2nd. Remember it s not about you (or how much you know), it s about supporting your church! So get your team together for Trivia Night.? Readership to the Star Courier is in decline.
