2 Pastor s Message Dear LCC Family, It s an amazing feeling around the community lately. With the arrival of warmer weather we all can sense that regular outside activities without hats and gloves will now be the norm and not simply a 2 or 3 day warmup. Spending a couple days out in the yard has been rejuvenating for me. I look forward to the day s and week s activities with renewed energy and excitement. This rejuvenating feeling is akin to how the Holy Spirit works in us too. Whether it s through the bread and wine of communion, through the peace-filled blessing of a friend, or the inspiring words of Scripture, God s Holy Spirit is always creating and cultivating new life within us. Although Easter Sunday is in our rearview mirror, we continue on as Easter people bearing the promise of new life into the world. An exciting development of newness has been percolating behind the scenes at LCC too. Last fall a member of our Bishop s staff asked if I would be interested in supervising a pastoral intern beginning sometime in Since then, I have been in conversation with Luther Seminary in St. Paul about having an intern on staff at LCC. I am excited to share that, beginning in August, a 3 rd member of the pastoral team will begin a 2-year part-time internship. A pastoral intern is someone who serves a church in the same way as an ordained pastor, but who is completing his/her contextual education component of the journey to ordination. Part of LCC s commitment to Luther Seminary and the intern is that we will form an internship committee. This team will be a 5-6 LCC members who will meet with the intern every few months to reflect with and guide the intern s development as a pastor. If you have interest in learning more about being on this important team, please give me a shout. I d love to visit with you! In addition to a pastoral intern, it is looking likely that we will have a new associate pastor on board at LCC by mid-summer as well! The Call Committee s work is nearing completion. Having prayerfully reviewed paperwork for 8 pastoral candidates and interviewed 2 face-to-face, we have found our candidate of choice. There are a number of important steps remaining before an official announcement will be made, but I am excited to share at this point we are taking next steps with someone I am confident will lead and serve with us well. Watch for more details in the coming weeks. As always, I invite your prayers for Lutheran Church of the Cross. May the Holy Spirit continue to work in and through us bearing God s creative life and light at LCC and beyond. Peace & Joy, Pastor Joel
