1 K P H C (U.S.A.) FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 29, 2018 God s dream is that you and I and all of us will realize that we are family, that we are made for togetherness, for goodness, and for compassion. Desmond Tutu We Are Christ s Le er to the World! from 2 Corinthians 3

2 Welcome to worship WELCOME TO KIRK IN THE HILLS We are glad to have you with us today for worship. If this is your first visit to the Kirk, we invite you to visit the Connect Station, located in the cloister, where you will find a pastor or member of the Kirk who would love to meet you and welcome you to the Kirk with a gift. About today s service For some, words like guilt and sin have become the calling cards of the Christian tradition. While it is important to confess and make things right with God, sometimes we forget that Jesus did not spend all of his time scolding people for geing life wrong, but that he also managed to bring out the best in people. There is so much good to be uncovered in your life, in your family, and in our church. This is the second week in a six-week sermon series on mission called In the Neighborhood. Over the course of the series our pastors, and a guest speaker from Pisburgh Seminary, will offer a robust and inspiring illustration of mission in the 21st century. The centerpiece of the series is a mission conference at the Kirk on Saturday, May 12 in the refectory. Churches and service organizations from throughout southeast Michigan are being invited to aend we hope you will register soon. Also, today we have a Conversation with Nate about the direction of the Kirk in Heritage Hall after the 11:00 a.m. service, the Daffodil Sunday Service in Cedarholm Chapel at 2:00 p.m., and a family event at Airtime Trampoline at 3:00 p.m. The following prayer invites us to prepare our hearts for worship and our lives for faithful living: Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous; Teach me to serve thee as thou deserves; To give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to seek reward, save that of knowing that I do thy will. Ignatius of Loyola If you have children Childcare is available for infants and children up to age 2 from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the nursery (Abbey 24). Please check children into the nursery before the service. Following the Word with the Children, children ages 3 through grade 12 will be dismissed for Sunday School. Worship Bags: Children are always welcome in worship! If you are worshiping with your child at the 11:00 a.m. service, please pick up a worship bag as you enter the sanctuary. If you need audio or visual assistance Hearing assistance units, large-print bulletins and hymnals are available upon request from an usher. If you are in need of prayer You may submit prayer requests online at kirkinthehills.org under Resources/Prayer Request. Stephen Ministers are available for personal, confidential prayer in Melrose Chapel after each worship service. Melrose Chapel is located on the left-hand side of the pulpit. Join us for fellowship and coffee We encourage worshipers to greet one another as they leave and assist visitors in finding their way to coffee and fellowship in Heritage Hall after the 9:15 a.m. worship service. The flowers on the altar are presented to the glory of God in honor of those whose lives have been impacted by cancer. As one of the first flowers of spring, the daffodil is a symbol of hope. In the face of cancer, it represents the hope we all share for a future where cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease. Cover Art - "For the Least of These" was painted by contemporary Japanese artist, Soichi Wantanabe. This expressive painting exemplifies the believers helping their neighbor. " I realize that my works are my own humble responses to God's calling in my life...the images given to me through the words of God, worships services on Sundays and during my daily devotions."
